I filed bankruptcy last year 2023. I was told multiple lies in order to get my money (if one is filing bankruptcy then it is fair to say they don't really have the money to begin with). I had a gut feeling after meeting with him that something didn't seem right. It was his lackadaisical attitude towards my situation which I explained to him in 100% full detail, documentation provided. He acted like everything was good and that I could eliminate all of my debt. This did not end up being the case. He told me that my $30,000. Debt from running tolls would be eliminated and I pressed him to make sure. It wasnt..however I wasn't made aware of this until after everything went through and thought I was clear. A couple months later the garnishment started up again. When I pressed him on it, his answer was obviously total b.s. and everything I felt in my gut was true. He was full of it and never really looked into it 100%...but he took my $2000 with a smile. In addition to that he also told me that all of the additional debt I had (which was eliminated) that I would receive reimbursement for all monies paid towards the debts...never happened. No follow up whatsoever. I was in a very tight spot and he knew it, yet still took advantage of me to get my $2000.00 that I obviously really didn't have to give. The only thing that was positive about this experience was his assistant. She was pleasant, helpful, and followed through on everything she was supposed to. No qualms with her (I wish I could recall her name I think it was Miss Sheila??) I would totally not recommend this guy at all. I felt like, as a desperate person finacially, I was totally taken advantage of so he could earn his money. It really makes me feel sick in my stomach to think about it. -Matt Shepperson Powhatan, VA P.s. if you're from powhatan don't go with the convenience of the location. Find someone else that will actually take 30 minutes of their time (which you pay for) to actually look into your situation. I was disgusted with his services.

I hired Barry Hodge for a child custody and support case in the Powhatan Juvenile District Court. I spent enough time working with Mr. Hodge and wrote enough pay to the order of Barry Hodge checks to have an opinon and write a review. Unfortunately, a five star rating is not possible because Mr. Hodge quit without finishing the case. Or how Barry put it, I was "fired permanently", as Barry informed me who the boss really was on his way out the door. -1 star Barry Hodge was expensive. His initial retainer and hourly rate were higher than the attorney I hired to replace him.  -2 I will remove another star for efficiency. Cost per what was accomplished was poor. Of course it is not possible to divide by zero, so I will just compare Mr. Hodge's efficiency to the attorney who actually argued my case before a judge and closed it at 1/5 of what I paid Mr Hodge. -3 I did not like working with (or for, since he fired me) Mr. Hodge. I'm sure he feels the same way about me, so this is a draw. Communication was good with both Mr. Hodge and the office. +1 Available for rehire? No. (I was fired permanently, remember)  I would not rehire regardless.  -4 So that explains my one star rating.  If you add -4 and +1 it is actually -3, so don't trust my math in this review. In fact, don't trust my review at all. This is just my rant for the way my case went only,  and not against Barry Hodge or Barry Hodge Law Firm PLC in general. I don't wish to discourage anyone from working for him. If there are any doubts to the authenticity of my review, I have over $25,000 in receipts to show what I paid Mr. Hodge and I have his order to withdraw from my case. Barry was extremely helpful in my family matter. He always presented me with options and what would be the best route to take. I’m the end I was able to win more time with my son. I recommend Barry for anyone that needs a resolution for family court.

Mr. Jennings was wonderful and made me feel comfortable from the start. He is smart, knowledgeable, fair and explained everything in a way that was very understandable. He or his office assistant, Jo, returned my calls and answered any and all questions promptly. He even called me several times while he was working on a Saturday. Jo was a absolute dream also. She is very smart and knowledgeable, very professional with a kind, compassionate and warm approach. They are a great team. I will definitely use them again.

Barry has assisted me in several legal matters and he has not disappointed. His excellence in client service, in-depth knowledge of the law, and proficiency in critical and creative thinking made my experience less stressful. I could not have asked for better legal representation.

Mr. Hodge helped me through a very stressful and eventful family ordeal, and I was glad to have him as my counsel. His level of commitment was admirable, and communication was always open and honest. From initial consultation to our day in court, his kind words of encouragement and realistic reassurances were very welcomed.

Mr. Hodge has not only set us up with a trust to protect our assets but also "took care" of an issue wherein we paid an unnamed contractor a deposit to perform work and then the contractor ghosted us. He took the money and ran so to speak. Barry did a great job getting our money back and we highly recommend him. Santa put him on the nice list.

I want to share an experience I had with Mr. Jennings office even though I was not his client, nor live in the area. I have a friend in Powhatan who is disabled and had been going through some really hard times. He did not know who to turn to for help. I contacted Mr. Jenning's office on his behalf and his staff was totally professional and ready to help. They immediately gave us an appointment date, met with my friend and his wife as well as their concerned relatives. We were greeted by the staff as if we had known each other for years. Mr. Jennings took the time to listen to all of us in relation to my friend and his wife's situation and not once did he pay attention to the time ( as I was accustomed to in the past) but listened to my friend and his wife and suggested several solutions to the problems. Mr. Jennings took action and resolved the problems facing my friends, and during the process his staff was amazing. They were very professional and we felt like family rather than a client. On that day of the meeting, Mr. Jennings gave my friend and his wife a "peace of mind " that they took home with them. Mr. Jennings lifted the burden they had for years. They are now on their way to recovery, thanks to Mr. Jennings and his staff. I don't live in Powhatan, but if I did, Mr. Jennings would be the gentleman that I know I could on for my legal matters. I am a retired builder from Alexandria, and have conducted business with numerous attorneys, but can assure you, when Mr. Jennings reaches out and shakes your hand, you can count on him and his staff. Mr. Jennings and his staff are courteous, thorough and a pleasure to work with. They helped my otherwise overwhelming situation seem manageable and made sure to answer all of my many questions throughout the process. Sheila in particular was always quick to respond and reach out. I am thankful for them and would highly recommend them if you are seeking legal counsel or help.

I my self somehow wound up in the hands of a Criminal and CPS investigation between my 2 daughters and wife, along with a protective order. Serious accusations, and lies that could've put me in prison for many years to come. ultimately lose complete custody of my children. Never thought I'd see a side where the father could win in any case, but Mr. Barry Hodge was a key roll in all my success. Mr. Hodge was there for me and listened to my case. I was no number and was not treated like any old case put on the the burner for last min. Mr. Hodge seams to take special interest in every case he takes. His prices are not the cheapest but not the most expensive. Hands down if you need a DogHouse fighter on your side, Mr. Hodge is no lawyer to be reconned with!.. No I was not paid for such a review! In Fact quite the opposite! This was earned! I recommend anyone going thru a traumatic custody battle to call Mr. Hodge and get the results other lawyers wish they can accomplish. I have no doubt with his knowledge he will make it right for any Father or Mother going thru anything like I have dealt with or worse! Thank you Barry couldn't ask for a more honest, aggressive and knowledgeable lawyer on my side!
