Barb Queen and Scott Laws represented me when my former employer refused to pay my last paycheck and unused vacation pay. They secured all the pay that was legally owed to me and collected all of the attorney fees so they did an outstanding job on my case. Top notch. I highly recommend Lawrence Queen.

I'm profoundly grateful for the exceptional consultation I received from McQueen & Lawrence, particularly from attorney Mark Passero. His guidance on how to approach my situation when being targeted and facing harassment by executive-level management in a state agency was truly outstanding and surpassed all expectations. Confronting a distressing situation within a state agency marred by systemic dysfunction and a leadership seemingly more focused on self-preservation than public service left me feeling vulnerable and powerless. The agency's apparent disregard for proper protocols and ethical standards created a hostile environment that was both professionally and personally challenging. Mark's expert advice was transformative in this difficult context. He provided me with crucial insights on how to navigate this complex and deeply troubling issue effectively, empowering me to stand up for my rights and the principles of good governance. What set Mark apart was his approach to my precarious situation. He didn't just offer legal counsel; he empowered me with strategies to stand up against intimidation from high-ranking officials. His support restored my courage when the weight of confronting executive-level harassment had shaken my confidence to the core. Mark's commitment to advocating for those who must endure targeting and harassment within state agencies was evident throughout our consultation. He equipped me with the knowledge and tools to assert my rights and dignity in the face of such abuse of power. To McQueen & Lawrence, and especially to Mark: Your consultation on approaching this sensitive and challenging issue was exceptional. I'm deeply thankful for your expertise, your unwavering support, and the profound impact you've had on my ability to face this difficult situation. Your guidance has been invaluable in helping me navigate this dark period in my professional life.

When I contacted The LawrenceQueen Law firm, I had already given up on any positive outcome for my case. I immediately felt hopeful and optimistic after my first conversation with Mark. I believe that he had my best interest at heart and would do what it took to get a satisfactory outcome on my behalf. He did not disappoint! The team at LQ provided the kind of customer service and dedication needed when a small fish is going up against a Goliath. Thank you, thank you Mark and the team at Lawrence Queen.

Mr. Davidson was recommend to me by a friend when I started looking for a divorce lawyer. When I met Mr. Davidson I felt safe and understood, for the first time in years. There was never any question that I asked that was not answered clearly to the point that I could understand, especially when explaining the legal system. Any time I had a problem come up I could call and he would call me back personally and help me through it, and help calm me down. He really dose care about his clients and tries to make the whole process as smooth as possible. Thank you so much Mr Davidson.

After consulting with Mark Krudys, we hired him to represent my son in a medical malpractice suit. He took on his case when I had almost given up hope on anyone taking it. He listened attentively to everything we said. He was very professional and knowledgeable. He was also kind, considerate, and compassionate. Mark or Anna was always available if we had questions or concerns, never cutting us off short, or making us feel like we were a bother. I just cannot say enough good things about Mark or the Krudys Law Firm. Mark and Anna worked relentlessly to get my son the justice he deserved. I will always be grateful to them, and would highly recommend this firm.

My case is a civil rights one, and I was extremely impressed with Mr Krudys’ knowledge and practicality in a brief phone call. He himself answered the call, which in itself is absolutely above expectations. While I wasn’t thrilled with his opinion (i.e., I’ll likely not win my case for which he gave solid reasons), I appreciated his honesty and practicality. I would absolutely go to him with other matters.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Richmond, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
