Mr. Cosby was very compassionate and understanding in a case where he represented a family member in. He knew the law inside and out which resulted in the best case scenario outcome. He understood how this incident had impacted my whole family and went out of his way to help us all in any way that he could. I would highly recommend Mr. Cosby to anyone seeking a knowledgable attorney who will show compassion and fight for you in the court room. Thanks to Mr. Cosby and all of his staff for their assistance.

We interviewed no less than ten attorneys to take over the Motions and sentencing phases of our son's case. After much research, in-depth meetings, and follow-up calls, we felt Mr. Cosby was the right choice. Through this very difficult endeavor whereas our son, due to his initial attorney's incompetence, was found guilty of second-degree murder in a case that was clearly self-defense, Mr. Cosby was our saving grace. He was patient, extremely dedicated, and very thorough. While his paralegal Mandy was typically available and consistently helpful, Mr. Cosby was always willing to speak with us and returned our calls when we wanted to speak with him directly, which was often. He answered every question we had, precisely explained all legal options, sentencing guidelines, possible results, and he provided specific instructions that we followed and which positively impacted our son's results. We greatly appreciated also that he didn't make promises or guarantees that would have promoted unreasonable expectations. His integrity prevented our family from suffering even greater devastation then we already experienced. That said, our son's sentence was only two years for the second degree murder charge and it's because of Mr. Cosby's tenacity and diligence in and outside of the courtroom. Mr. Cosby was always the calm during the storm. However, don't let his laid-back demeanor fool you.

Mr. Davidson was recommend to me by a friend when I started looking for a divorce lawyer. When I met Mr. Davidson I felt safe and understood, for the first time in years. There was never any question that I asked that was not answered clearly to the point that I could understand, especially when explaining the legal system. Any time I had a problem come up I could call and he would call me back personally and help me through it, and help calm me down. He really dose care about his clients and tries to make the whole process as smooth as possible. Thank you so much Mr Davidson.

I was arrested for DWI with a .16 BAC in Henrico, Va. Bob did a great job representing me and keeping me notified with progress. When the day in court finally arrived, Bob Battle negotiated with the prosecutor and arresting officer. He was able to have my DWI charge reduced to Reckless Driving. I can’t tell you how much that helped me in my personal life and my career. I’m very thankful I was referred to Bob Battle. I could have picked several cheaper lawyers but, I don’t think they would have fought for me like Bob Battle.

I hired Mr. Battle for a DUI case. New to Virginia I was unfamiliar with laws and processes. Mr. Battle met with me, reviewed my case and outlined the law and my rights in terms that I could understand. He was always available, via email, text or phone. Based on the law I should have received some sort of jail time, however due to Mr. Battle’s experience, I did not receive any jail time and my blood alcohol level was thrown out of court. Could not have asked for a better outcome.

After consulting with Mark Krudys, we hired him to represent my son in a medical malpractice suit. He took on his case when I had almost given up hope on anyone taking it. He listened attentively to everything we said. He was very professional and knowledgeable. He was also kind, considerate, and compassionate. Mark or Anna was always available if we had questions or concerns, never cutting us off short, or making us feel like we were a bother. I just cannot say enough good things about Mark or the Krudys Law Firm. Mark and Anna worked relentlessly to get my son the justice he deserved. I will always be grateful to them, and would highly recommend this firm.

My case is a civil rights one, and I was extremely impressed with Mr Krudys’ knowledge and practicality in a brief phone call. He himself answered the call, which in itself is absolutely above expectations. While I wasn’t thrilled with his opinion (i.e., I’ll likely not win my case for which he gave solid reasons), I appreciated his honesty and practicality. I would absolutely go to him with other matters.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Richmond, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
