Mr. Kevin Calhoun was referred to me by a friend he helped navigate a similar legal matter. From the moment I spoke with Kevin I felt a deep sense of reassurance that my case was in the best hands possible. Mr. Calhoun effortlessly navigated my legal options as well as various Richmond Courts. I was treated with dignity and respect when it mattered most because Kevin had my back. Kevin Calhoun-Case Dismissed!

I was actually assigned Mr. Calhoun as a court appointed attorney, which in most cases, you get an over worked, under paid, jerk that couldn’t care less about you OR your case!! I had a different situation a few years back, where I was assigned an attorney, and the guy NEVER EVEN SPOKE TO THE COMMONWEALTHS ATTORNEY!! She said she couldn’t get in touch with him!! So she contacted my friend, (who had filed the charges against me), and she and he worked out a deal. Then, HE DIDNT EVEN SHOW UP FOR COURT!!! His excuse was that he “fell down the stairs”, and his secretary was supposed to call”. HA!! No one would answer the phone at his practice, because the Judge AND I, AND the C.A., all called him MANY times that morning looking for him, so I think he forgot about my court date!!! Then he LIED to the Judge about why he wasn’t there! (And for SOME UNGODLY REASON, I STILL HAVE TO PAY THAT ***HOLE!!! Anyway, when I was assigned Kevin, I was surprised at how on top of everything he was!! And stayed on top of it, and at the end of the year long probation, he was able to convince the Judge that the case should be dismissed, since I’d done EVERYTHING I was told to do by the courts!! Then, we had THOUGHT I’d be stuck paying a $750 Court cost, however, the Judge decided that I shouldn’t have to pay that fee, since I’d complied with everything they’d told me to do! Kevin called me throughout the year checking on how I was doing, etc. I would definitely hire Mr. Calhoun again!! He’s one of the good guys!

Mr. Davidson was recommend to me by a friend when I started looking for a divorce lawyer. When I met Mr. Davidson I felt safe and understood, for the first time in years. There was never any question that I asked that was not answered clearly to the point that I could understand, especially when explaining the legal system. Any time I had a problem come up I could call and he would call me back personally and help me through it, and help calm me down. He really dose care about his clients and tries to make the whole process as smooth as possible. Thank you so much Mr Davidson.

After consulting with Mark Krudys, we hired him to represent my son in a medical malpractice suit. He took on his case when I had almost given up hope on anyone taking it. He listened attentively to everything we said. He was very professional and knowledgeable. He was also kind, considerate, and compassionate. Mark or Anna was always available if we had questions or concerns, never cutting us off short, or making us feel like we were a bother. I just cannot say enough good things about Mark or the Krudys Law Firm. Mark and Anna worked relentlessly to get my son the justice he deserved. I will always be grateful to them, and would highly recommend this firm.

I will forever be grateful to Mark Krudys. He diligently worked on my complicated white collar case for three years. Mark’s skills made him the perfect lawyer to deal with all of its aspects. His knowledge of civil, criminal and bankruptcy law was invaluable. He took the time to make sure I understand the various proceedings and always made me feel like a priority. In addition to being extremely dedicated to his clients, Mark is the epitome of ethical and professional.

My case is a civil rights one, and I was extremely impressed with Mr Krudys’ knowledge and practicality in a brief phone call. He himself answered the call, which in itself is absolutely above expectations. While I wasn’t thrilled with his opinion (i.e., I’ll likely not win my case for which he gave solid reasons), I appreciated his honesty and practicality. I would absolutely go to him with other matters.

I was arrested for DWI with a .16 BAC in Henrico, Va. Bob did a great job representing me and keeping me notified with progress. When the day in court finally arrived, Bob Battle negotiated with the prosecutor and arresting officer. He was able to have my DWI charge reduced to Reckless Driving. I can’t tell you how much that helped me in my personal life and my career. I’m very thankful I was referred to Bob Battle. I could have picked several cheaper lawyers but, I don’t think they would have fought for me like Bob Battle.

I hired Mr. Battle for a DUI case. New to Virginia I was unfamiliar with laws and processes. Mr. Battle met with me, reviewed my case and outlined the law and my rights in terms that I could understand. He was always available, via email, text or phone. Based on the law I should have received some sort of jail time, however due to Mr. Battle’s experience, I did not receive any jail time and my blood alcohol level was thrown out of court. Could not have asked for a better outcome.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Richmond, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
