I'm a Virginia lawyer and I'm a client of Shayan Noor, why? Because he is an excellent lawyer, he's personable, highly intelligent, knows the law and has experience with the courts, which makes him a killer lawyer. I confidently tell my clients to reach out to him and see if he is a good fit for them and when they retain him, he fights for them tooth and nail and has achieved many astonishing outcomes for his clients. When a surgeon goes to another surgeon to have the same type of surgery he does, done on himself, you as a patient can also trust the surgeon who is doing surgery on the surgeon. When a lawyer has Shayan Noor represent them in court, you too can have Shayan represent you with confidence.

I have hired Mr. Noor twice in the past 15 months for two separate incidents. From the beginning Mr. Noor aggressively defended me and was able to get both of my cases dismissed! Mr. Noor is simply an amazing attorney. He works with you and he is very affordable. He also responds to any questions or concerns promptly and keeps you updated on your case. I’m referring him to all my friends and family. Give him a chance and you’ll be a lifetime member with him. Amazing personality and professional ethics.

Shayan is what you are looking for. He is really professional and knowledgeable; trustworthy and communicative, but beside all that, he actually cares about you and yours, not money hungry machine. In my case, Shayan could just take an initial “easy money” deal but he advised me not to do it, even knowing that the case was going to take longer for him and us, at the end was worthy, because he gain our trust and is now our family lawyer. He is a real legal advisor, believe me; “he is the man”

Coming from out of state I was unaware of Virginia's traffic infractions when it came to speeding! I didn't know my speeding ticket would make me a criminal! I had a friend recommend me to Shayan and he was super responsive whenever I sent him a question via email. He always made sure to respond back in less than 24 hours and was available to answer any questions I had as this was my first time with a criminal charge. At the end he was able to bring my criminal charge to a minor traffic infraction, which is what I was hoping for.

When I needed help with custody and visitation I sought advise from fellow attorneys who litigate in family courts across Northern Virginia. They all recommended Laura Hamilton to handle my complex and heart rending appeal. She has accomplished more with her resolve and tenacity than any of the so called prestigious pedigree firms whom I had hired in the past. I have witnessed her intense preparation, professional demeanor, and courtroom brilliance sway previously skeptical judges. Her reputation impressed my fellow lawyers, and now, I am over awed by her dedication. I am grateful to have Laura Hamilton on my side.

Laura is the type of attorney that you see on television shows like "Law and Order." She's a formidable opponent, and extremely logical and rational. One thing that I loved about having Laura as my counsel is that even if she asserted that we should take a certain action-----she would still be weighing the strategy associated with taking that action up until the very last minute. Laura is very STEALTHY. Her mind SHREDS information, down to the finest detail. In addition to her legal prowess, Laura is extremely nurturing. There were many instances in her time spent with me where she gave me practical advice for my specific situation that had nothing to do with practicing law. She remained accessible via phone and text, even at night and on the weekends. If you need an attorney who is going to go the extra mile to not only provide you with representation but support then Laura is your person. She's argued cases in front of the Supreme Court and more. What touched me the most about Laura, was her willingness to work with me financially. She's certainly seasoned enough, to not have to do that. She did that because she believed it was the right thing to do and there were many instances in which she would say "Look, that will work itself out. Lets focus on the case." Her character as a human being is what shines even brighter than her legal prowess. Another thing I want to mention is that when Laura drafted motions on my behalf, they were completely solid. She filled her motions with tons of case law, shutting down the emotion based arguments of the opposing counsel. HIRE LAURA!

I worked with Kamran when I was first starting out in the patent law profession in 2004. We worked together at a private law firm for both domestic/foreign clients, where we were responsible for preparing new application drafts as well as domestic/foreign prosecution for technologies including semiconductor / memory fabrication and telecommunications. Kamran is a hard-working and flexible attorney that can handle projects of all sizes, from establishing basic IP strategy for small companies / solo inventors, as well as servicing larger and more structured clients which require more focused patent prosecution tactics for specific cases. Kamran is both a personal friend and colleague, and I would not hesitate to direct prospective clients his way.

I consulted with Rachel twice through my Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and retained her services, knowing that she would cover all aspects of my divorce proceedings. She provided education, adjunct resources, support, and transparency throughout. I truly could not have done this on my own and Rachel quickly responded to any questions/concerns I’ve had. Divorce is not an easy process but Rachel’s knowledge and expertise made this a seamless transition. I would definitely recommend Rachel Virk if you’re seeking a thorough, direct, and results-driven attorney. Great experience!

This is my second time writing a review for Ms. Virk, the first of which was under the name FDB. After retaining Ms. Virk, she delivered the most favorable outcome that I could imagine. She even directly helped both of my children, writing them letters for school on multiple occasions. She is a very caring lawyer, but more importantly a very caring person. She truly is invested in every one of her clients, and that attitude transcends any work she could do. Not to mention, she does amazing work. There is not a lawyer I could imagine that would positively affect me more than Mrs. Virk has. She is wonderful and I unequivocally recommend her to anyone in need of a compassionate divorce lawyer. Like I said in my first review, she is a warrior.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Sterling, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
