Justin was thorough and detail oriented through the entire litigation process. His pleadings are always thorough and meticulous attention to detail. He took on a very challenging case and executed with precision and ease as well as fighting multiple times to help me acquire and re-acquire reunification each time it was terminated at no fault of mine. He has obtained extremely favorable results each time we walked into court where other attorneys failed and has not lost a single time, he represented me. He was the final attorney representing my case after one was not able to secure favorable outcomes and the other left the family law practice (Justin came highly recommended from testimonials I read about him and through other attorneys he litigated against) and his staff and entire office continues to have my complete faith and trust as the litigation is about to conclude. He has literally done everything within the bounds of law to fight for my rights to my relationship to my seven children and seen once in 1,368 days, had ensured 109 reunification sessions even when interference impeded me every step of the way he was there to help, he also obtained extremely talented professionals to add to the team of a highly complex case and was able to restore competency within the professionals involved in my case. This continued to ensure a road and path to my children no matter the obstacle. He will represent you with all of his will and might and has phenomenal ethics and a great respect from judges and his fellow attorneys he litigates against. You will not regret obtaining this attorney or anyone within his law firm. Sean Domer and Fred Taylor have stepped in and also executed positive results in my case. I have not had an adverse ruling with Justin Bush since he began working with me in 2019/2020 timeframe and I would not even consider another attorney in the Hampton Roads legal community. We are still in on-going litigation but this case which has spanned over 4 years however it is nearing a conclusion and I have no doubts he will continue to do achieve a final outcome that is positive. He is not an attorney that loses - and ALWAYS puts his clients in advantageous positions -- Following his counsel which is filled with insightful, actionable, and successful direction is a decision YOU WILL NEVER REGRET !!!!! Thank you Justin , Sean, and your entire office. Note** The operational folks, and paralegals - are the most dedicated, kind-, and warm-hearted people a client could ever interact with. You don't just get a dominant attorney you get a dominant law firm from the top down. The strongest and highest endorsement I could come up with. There is a reason he is in the top 1% of his class and has all of the certifications and accreditation. He is the Michael Air Jordan of his field and will bring it home every time.

Got my divorce against a narcissist that was hiding his address at a price affordable to me. Received numerous updates. Thankful to finally have everything overwith. Especially thankful to Lisa Chavis for all her hard work and emails.

I came to Mr. Bush in 2019 with a child custody/support case, with Covid things got pushed back many times over the last 2 years. Even through the difficult time he always maintained communication and always was easy to get a hold of anytime I had an issue or questions. He was able to help me so much and fought for me. I would highly recommend him to anyone. Huge Thank you to Mr. bush and his team.

Justin Bush handled my case and he acted like a friend to me. He took my case personally and professionally and helped me in every way possible I didn’t get the outcome I wanted this time but that was not Justin’s fault at all. I know I’ll have to go back to court one day and his number will still be in my phone and the first one I call to stand by my side.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Suffolk, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
