Mariam Ebrahimi is a top-notch attorney. Over the course of several years dealing with a litigious ex and fighting over custody, Mariam has proved to be my best advocate, guiding me through what has been an incredibly high conflict divorce. She is straight forward and doesn’t just tell me what I want to hear. Her perspective on how the judicial system works and what is considered reasonable is first rate. She knows the law and is quick on her feet in dealing with things that arise last minute. She is also one of the most accessible and responsive attorneys I have ever met. She truly cares about her clients and wants what is in their best interest. You can’t go wrong if you go with Mariam. She will always be on your side and guide you appropriately.

She was my attorney in adultery case two years ago. What she was cared to make money not to win the case. She made very bad mistake with separation date. My ex took the 5th. She asked me to go to Court with her. She said I should feel the cour atmosphere. When we got to court, she immediately introduced me to the judge and put me on the stand being questioned without any preparation. She used me because she was not prepared. He got his fifth. She asked me to give return taxes for five years. What a waste of time it was. I had doubts whether she looked into them. She overcharged me for every meeting and everything she was doing. She was rude, often burst screaming when questioned her actions/approached and threatened to leave the case. She supposed to send certified and regular letters. After three weeks not getting respond from the recipient I asked for receipt with tracking number. She got very angry screaming,if I don’t trust her she can’t defend me anymore. She never send those letters, she lied. For the Deposition most questions I prepared she had no time and asked for. There was the most humiliating time for me.My ex was sarcastic to her the most of the time and lied and she had solid evidence he did.when she started negotiations with his lawyer how much money I have to give back to my ex for spousal support he paid me and for all bills he paid for house. I not supposed to return any money to him, I found out later. I left her after that.

I am so glad I was able to find Mariam. She helped guide me through a divorce that left me in pieces. Not only did she ensure that my interests were always in the front, she ensured the other counsel did not create undue burden with me. I praise her ability to help me and her knowledge of the law to guide me when I wanted to get the other side. She ensured that we found the core values of what we were fighting for and went after it. In the end she saved me significant amount of money and even more pain and suffering.

She put 30 days in Retainer and invoice after 30 days. Cannot dispute. She barely uses parallel work, charges lawyer rate. eg. 1.5 hour signing settlement, she charged 3 hours, met her 5 minutes, she charged half hour. Invoice came after 30 days. She said I could not ask her due to over 30 days. 1. First meeting, I told her 10 years old daughter wanted 50-50, why fought? She said judge not listening to a child. After she reviewed my case, she said she was going to win my daughter. In the end when asking trial after spending a lot money, she said now your daughter did not want me, judge listens to your child. She mislead me. 2. When concerning how case going, she threaten me to withdraw many times in the middle of court proceeding. 3. At late stage, my EX asked to add half dozen witnesses in the third round INTERROGATORIES, almost finished. I strongly opposed it. She advised me to allow him, which opened the flood gate of lies, completely out of control. She sit in half dozen depositions making more money. She did not know what to do with all the lies! It terribly weakened my case. She did not care whether I won the case or not. She wants money. 4. INTERROGATORIES She charged me 57.2 hours on Discovery, $20,020. A. She rewrote what I spent months writing with ton of details. It was returned as “vague” or “too broad”. She had to change back to my version. She made a lot money. A senior lawyer, does not know how to respond to INTERROGATORIES. B. She was late to submit to my EX lawyer. Then she lost the MOTION To COMPELL. Judge asked me to pay my EX lawyer fee. She still charged me due to her fault. C. Closed to trial, I asked her why my EX’s lawyer asked TAXes, not her. Then she sent out an INTERROGATORIES with all other missing questions, of course charging me. Because it is too closed to trial, my EX’s lawyer refused to answer. Considering 57.2 hours on INTERROGATORIES, $20,020, she still missed the basic questions. 5. My EX filed Protective Order. I was ordered out of house with only 5 days cloths. My EX signed a court order, allowing me go home to pick up my belongings with my EX’s permission. My EX refused to the end, even with a court order! From the beginning, Feb, to the end, Aug, she spent my money keeping asking my Ex lawyer. Court clerk told me I can call Keep Peace sheriff with the court order. She said no. A. After we settled the divorce, she told me she would help to get my belongings. B. All my financial statements were at home. I had to answer INTERROGATORIES. She made me spend a lot of unnecessary money. C. I had to buy everything I had at home, for daily living, spent a lot of unnecessary money. 6. I paid her $42221, I lost children, house, saving. After case over, I had to beg her to make A “free call” to a reunification therapist! 7. On mediation day, my EX’s lawyer draft the agreement. She did not help me negociate. My evil EX denied PRENAP, SEPARTION, took four houses rent for a year, living in my house for free, I had to rent an two bedrooms apt, out of my pocket. I had to buy everything since I left the house only with 5 days clothes. She advised me to pay my EX double than my suggestion. Another example, my EX played court game, filed Protective Order and violation. My 10 years old daughter did not see me for 4 months. She got hurt a lot and never be the same. Why do I to share Reunification Therapist? The whole day, my EX’s lawyer draft the agreement. She told me she was working on another case while waiting for a big agreement. She spent many hours calling and working on another case. But she charged me all the hours, except one hour. She did not negotiate anything for me. I did it all. She did not give me any advice.

I had a dispute with my tenant and was having a hard time dealing with their ridiculous claims, constant threats and refusal to leave the property on lease expiration. Ben handled the case from start to finish smoothly, always being professional, attentive and responsive. I was amazed how quickly he picked up on the case details and was very reassuring in my first conversation with him. He was polite, firm and very objective/calm with the tenants. His thorough knowledge and prompt action was instrumental in making the tenants leaving the property on time and without any ongoing issues. It was my first time using a real estate lawyer and the experience was excellent and hassle free. Thank you Ben!

Stan came highly recommended by our social worker. They worked great together and our kids' adoption was finalized within 56 days! Stan also very thoughtfully created extra unofficial certificates just for the kids! The kids were tickled to see their names celebrated in print like that. It meant a lot to them and to us.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Vienna, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
