I cannot express enough gratitude to Roop Law, and Marcus Greene in particular, for providing exceptional representation during my custody battle. My situation was complex, involving the potential for international visitation/custody for my special needs child. From the very beginning, the team at Roop Law demonstrated a deep understanding of the nuances involved in my case. Marcus showed care about my situation while always being direct about how the courts are likely to view things based on current law. He is very knowledgable, responsive, and organized, which made me feel like I was in good hands through this difficult process. Thanks to Marcus' expertise, dedication, and strategic approach, I was awarded sole physical and legal custody of my child. Roop Law gave me the peace of mind I needed during such a stressful time. If you are facing a custody battle, especially one with high stakes like mine, I highly recommend Roop Law. They are truly the best in the field and have made an immeasurable difference in my life.

I don’t even know where to begin… Let me start by saying I just got back from spending five days in Paris with my one year old daughter (yesterday) ALL thanks to Marcus!! After the mother of my daughter and I broke up I already knew I was going to need an attorney sooner or later. After our break up the mother was the one in control of when I can see my daughter, the scheduling and the time. It was only a matter of time before things got out of hand. We were doing every two days and every other weekend. I’m sorry but I want more time with my daughter! Only two days in a row and every other weekend wasn’t working for me. When things got out to hand, I went almost two months without seeing my daughter! I don’t wish the feeling of waking up everyday and not knowing when you are going to see your child again on anyone. Good thing I had already met with Marcus before things got out of hand so he already knew what was going on and was able to work on it right away once I told him things went downhill. The first day I met Marcus he gave me a cellphone number I can text him at. I promise you when Marcus gave me his number and said “text me whenever you need me” he meant it! Marcus always replied even on weekends, holidays and nights! He is your attorney 24/7. Marcus represented me for both the Custody/Visitation order & Child Support order. Thanks to Marcus the judge/court gave us a really good visiting/custody schedule where both mom and dad can spend quality time with the child. Marcus is licensed in multiple counties and that was very important in my case because ever since my daughter was born we lived in one county and the county where the mother moved back with her family is a different county. Marcus is my “new” forever best friend and when my daughter gets older she will thank him for fighting for her father! Because of Marcus my daughter gets to spend a lot of quality time with her father! Call your guardian angel today! Marcus will not let you down. He will not tell you what you want to hear, he will tell you what it really is. Marcus once again thank you for representing me and for doing an amazing job! Thank you!

Thanks to Marcus I’m writing this five star review while vacationing in Paris with my daughter! Thanks to Marcus my daughter has an excellent visitation schedule with her father! Marcus was by my side since day one. He gave me a phone number where I can text him anytime. Marcus always got back to me even on weekends via email or text. Marcus was always well prepared and organized the times we went to court and trial. I’m so happy I got a hold of RoopLaw and Marcus. If you are looking for an excellent family lawyer call RoopLaw and ask for Marcus Greene. He will get it done! Thanks Marcus!

Last year, I needed a hire an attorney to assist in the eviction of a family member/tenant situation. Brian and his team of lawyers including Levi Huston and Blake Browning, did an outstanding job of representing my interests in this unusual case. Every step of the way, they were respectful of my wishes while managing my costs to keep them to a minimum. Given this very difficult situation, I am very pleased with the outcome and would highly recommend Brian West and his team of lawyers. They look out for your interest while keeping their cost to a minimum. Thank you Brian West and team!

Mr. West was very kind to answer my question about who can be a separation witness and I think he charges a very fair rate for his services. I have not made a decision for which lawyer I will hire for my divorce but I am definitely considering Mr. West!

Brian provided the best possible representation with a zeal second to none. In court he was well prepared and prepped me well before court too. He was able to anticipate the argument of the ex's lawyer to a degree I did not expect. And it ended just as he said it would at our first meeting. Opposing counsel just ran up fees.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Vienna, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
