Professional, competent, and personable are qualities I found when I retained Paul Samakow after an auto accident. I was T-boned while driving home from a client's office. Clearly the accident was not my fault and yet it was still an uphill battle with the insurance companies. He was thorough and a bull dog when it came to working up against them. Thanks to his expertise, I won my case and was compensated for my suffering. I highly recommend his services.

I consulted/visited Attorney Paul Samakow in reference to an auto accident. We spoke for nearly two hours about my situation. Although I didn't retain Attorney Samakow, I called him a couple more times for advise. Each time I receive professional vise without any hesitation. Each question I asked, I felt as though the responses were extremely helpful. During my initial visit I recall receiving respect and undivided attention. Each time I called Attorney Samakow's office, He was the one that answered. Never had to leave a message or wait on hold. In my experience with lawyers, Paul Samakow provided me with the best experience. Most of all, Attorney Samakow was never retained, and still he provided impeccable service. Thank you Sir! There aren't many attorney's such as yourself. Sincerely,

In the stressful days following my automobile accident, it wasn’t easy to make decisions. Although the accident was clearly not my fault, I was quickly hit with extremely large medical bills, and besieged by phone calls from multiple adjusters from both insurance companies (even my own adopted an adversarial stance). Fortunately, a friend whom Mr. Samakow had previously represented referred me to him. He and his staff worked tirelessly on my case for nearly two years, and long after the settlement he is still willing to answer questions. In other words, he’s committed to his clients and in it for the long haul, deferring his own compensation until the case is closed, and still available long after he’s received his fee. For personal injury representation, I recommend Paul Samakow without hesitation.

Elizabeth and her team were able to drive my mother-in-law through Green Card approval process to completion. The process hit some unfortunate turns when she received incorrect documentation from other countries (Hungary) that was not accepted by US processing center without explanation. We have spend months and months in attempts to find out the reason and move the case from the dead point, including involving senator request to US visa processing center officials. During this time, Elizabeth and her team (Sofia Solonari) were constantly in support. They were tried their best researching similar cases and providing their best advises based on their inner knowledge of the processing system and procedures. Without their guidance we would be lost in the confusing world of hundreds document, forms, and procedures.

Last year, I needed a hire an attorney to assist in the eviction of a family member/tenant situation. Brian and his team of lawyers including Levi Huston and Blake Browning, did an outstanding job of representing my interests in this unusual case. Every step of the way, they were respectful of my wishes while managing my costs to keep them to a minimum. Given this very difficult situation, I am very pleased with the outcome and would highly recommend Brian West and his team of lawyers. They look out for your interest while keeping their cost to a minimum. Thank you Brian West and team!

Mr. West was very kind to answer my question about who can be a separation witness and I think he charges a very fair rate for his services. I have not made a decision for which lawyer I will hire for my divorce but I am definitely considering Mr. West!

Brian provided the best possible representation with a zeal second to none. In court he was well prepared and prepped me well before court too. He was able to anticipate the argument of the ex's lawyer to a degree I did not expect. And it ended just as he said it would at our first meeting. Opposing counsel just ran up fees.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Vienna, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
