He did very well defending me in my case and made sure I was calm and comfortable the entire time. Talked me through everything and did well with communication. He’s worth the fee. Always was there when I needed reassurance and kept all details out in the open.

After running into some legal trouble, I went searching for an attorney to represent me in court. I made a few calls around town but Mr. Pfeiffer was the only attorney to answer his phone on a Saturday afternoon, and he took my call while at a sporting event for his child - much respect earned for that. Mr. Pfeiffer not only answered my call, he took the time to answer all of my questions up front and even offered advice on what I should do even if I didnt decide to hire him. He offered me a flat rate charge, which would never increase even if additional follow-on services were needed after my initial court appearance. He charged an extremely competitive and fair price for his services. Throughout the process of working with him, he was very reassuring and had top-notch communication with me, always answering my calls and texts in a timely manner. Mr. Pfeiffer gave me a list of things to do, told me what proof to collect and what to bring to court. On the date of my court appearance, Mr. Pfeiffer was able to get my case dismissed and I was in the court room for a matter of minutes. The entire process was quick and painless, I was shocked at how fast it was. I think I honestly asked him "That's it?" afterwards. Mr. Pfeiffer was also able to recommend me to a colleague for expungement processing at a discounted rate. He made my entire experience with court easy and pain free, at a time when I felt scared and vulnerable. I can't recommend Stephen Pfeiffer highly enough and will definitely be using him in the future for any legal issues. You will not regret hiring him, he has definitely earned my five star review.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! My bondsman kept saying how choosing Mr. Pfeiffer was the best decision I could make in my case and he wasn’t lying! He’s an absolutely AMAZING attorney! He did everything he said he was going to do and was able to get my charges dropped. I would definitely recommend him to my family and friends!

I found myself in an extremely difficult, criminal, legal situation and hired Mr. Rasberry immediately after interviewing 4 other attorneys. He is very personable and empathetic, yet outspoken and demanding when necessary which I appreciated. He was very thorough and informative when explaining courtroom procedures and what I should expect when taking the stand. His advise and confident demeanor put me at ease during a very stressful time in my life. In the courtroom he is clearly respected by all. He is concise in his speech and has the ability to command closure. He was able to have the charge dismissed and that was the correct and desired outcome. I am thankful to Mr. Rasberry and highly recommended him for legal counsel.

Mr. Rasberry represented me in a Child Visitation case. He took the time to listen to our needs and desired outcome, we never felt like just another client. Mr. Rasberry was able to get a resolution to this quickly and efficiently. He presented our case well in front of the Judge with confidence and professionalism. I am very pleased with the outcome of this situation.

I originally came into contact with Mr. Rowlands when he represented the individual I was suing in General District court. (In other words, he was the opposing counsel). He litigated that case so well and effectively, that I followed up with him regarding a matter I needed assistance with regarding a Federal inmate I'm advocating for. He completed the most thorough and complete version of that particular document (a Power of Attorney,) I have ever seen. The third matter I consulted with him on was regarding a civil matter in General District court I had started on my own, but then needed to follow up on with counsel. For one thing, one generally wouldn't choose to secure the services of former opposing counsel, but due to his excellent work, I was so impressed with Mr. Rowlands as a whole, that I knew he was who I would want handling any legal matter I may ever have. He was a superb litigator (with a difficult client who he was working with under far less than ideal circumstances,) and we worked together to reach a settlement that was satisfactory and in the best interests of all parties. He is a great communicator and truly goes above and beyond to get the job done. Even more impressively, regarding the third matter, while he certainly gave me the resources and information I needed to handle the matter, he also advised me that in his opinion, while I have a case, the time and energy required for me to pursue it really wouldn't be worth it, in the long run. He also advised me of an entirely different option that I will be pursuing in the interest of justice. Mr. Rowlands has impeccable ethics and skill. He is very easy to work with (regardless of which side of the table you're on!) and I could note rate him any higher than I have. I will most definitely go back to Mr. Rowlands for any legal matter I may have in the future. If you need a good lawyer, regardless of how simple or complicated your case may be, he is the man for the job.

I have worked with Attorney Brent Rowlands for 15 years, and with the very greatest pleasure. Brent is the best, and will always handle all my legal work in Virginia. An A+ Attorney, and I have no hesitation in recommending him. Brent has handled a very difficult and long "on going" probate case for an estate and has been tremendous! Most of all he did this for us nearly 1,000 miles apart. A+

I had unpaid rent from a commercial property. We met the other attorney at court, negotiated and settled the dispute in record speed out in the hall before even going in front of the judge. This clearly could have been dragged out costing me money. I was very pleased and impressed with the entire process. Not all lawyers are interested in dragging out a case and taking all your money. I referred a friend to Mr. Rowlands and he received the same outstanding service.

After being denied bond and told by every attorney in the commonwealth it was impossible, Ms. McClenney pulled off the impossible and got the court to grant me a fair bond. She was very attentive and responsive to my every concern about the case. She was knowledgeable about the laws applicable to my case and was familiar with all the players in the court process. She was a prayer answered.

After going through a 2 year custody battle with my ex-husband, 3 continuances and still no court date, I hired Ms. McClenney and she got me a court date quickly. The day of court, Ms. McClenney appeared ready and well prepared to fight for me. After it was over I was in the court room in tears because I could not believe that I finally got my day in court and a court order granting me sole custody of my daughter! I will recommend her to everybody I know because she is a great lawyer. Her and her entire staff were professional, super friendly and knowledgable. They were prompt returning my calls and responding to my emails. They made me feel like I was important and not just a number. I will be forever grateful for Ms. McClenney!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Virginia Beach, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
