I highly recommend Steven J. Peiffle, attorney at Bailey, Duskin & Peiffle, P.S. in Arlington, WA. He is well-respected among his colleagues and within the court system. Peiffle is knowledgeable, (important!), confident (important!), personable (important!) and a stand-up kind of professional (important!) who always acts with integrity (important!). Peiffle came on board after my initial attorney, David Duskin retired. He quickly assessed the situation of a self-dealing family member taking advantage of his mother and took preventative steps. The outcome in this case turned out to be the best I could have expected.

I was having an issue with a company who sent me to collections based upon a contract that I had never seen much less signed. Thankfully, Steve was able to get a dismissal and saved my credit from being ruined.

We met and discussed all the changes we wanted to make on our will and trust. Mr Peiffle took notes and sent us a draft about a week later with several mistakes. I called the office as instructed to inform them of the errors and about 1 1/2 weeks later received an e-mail with another "corrected" draft which also had several mistakes. This time I e-mailed him and placed the errors in writing and he was able to produce a correct document. Then he charged me for his time, which was mostly spent correcting his own mistakes.

Pros
1
Knowledgeable and skilled in the law
“Steve's knowledge of the law, his ability to articulate that in layman's terms to his client in a way that was understandable and his obvious talent for writing well drafted and well argued legal briefs and other court documents clearly sets him apart.”
2
Strong legal strategy and advocacy
“What I particularly admired was his sharp legal strategizing. When you think you don't understand why he did what he did and then you see the fruit of his strategies, it all makes sense and you appreciate that you hired such a darn good attorney.”
3
Personable and maintains composure
“In the heat of emotions when we laymen want to do all kinds of ill-advised things, Steve kept us on track and skillfully lead us to a decisive victory in arbitration which recovered tens of thousands of dollars that had been misappropriated from the estate by the executor.”
4
Integrity and transparency
“What I most appreciated was that Steve helped us restore integrity and transparency to the administration of my father's estate which honored my father's wishes and his memory.”
Cons
1
Mistakes in drafting documents
“We met and discussed all the changes we wanted to make on our will and trust. Mr Peiffle took notes and sent us a draft about a week later with several mistakes. I called the office as instructed to inform them of the errors and about 1 1”
2
Charges for correcting own mistakes
“Then he charged me for his time, which was mostly spent correcting his own mistakes.”

I highly recommend this firm for anyone that is looking for a personal experience and not feeling like you're just a client and money to them. Before we found this firm my wife was about to give up on herself, but Wells Trumbull was able to get us to the best doctors around and truly get down to the root causes of my wife's injuries. Now because of them she is on the road to recovery, the amazing settlement that they got us is on top of that but most of all they put her health and getting her to recovery before any of that. This firm is a group of people who are true fighters and they don't want to settle like the big firms and the people that you see on TV. We got quadruple the amount of money compared to the other firms quick settlements that they promised. They are extremely knowledgeable and it really shows, they guide you through the whole process and explain everything in detail. I highly recommend them to anyone.

Wells/Trumbull law firm was such a great team to work with. This being my husband and my first experience going to trial. Wells/Trumbull team was there always there to provide us with such care, comfort and support. They made us feel loved and like family. They walked us thru every step of the way thru the whole process of everything. I would use this law again and have recommended them to our family and friends. They are a 5 star law firm who provides a great deal of professionalism and countless support with a ton of patience.

Divorce sucks, but Breanne helped me though it. Her sensible family (child) focused approach was a relief. She kept a clear head through all the craziness, even when I couldn't. I have recommended her to other men going through a divorce.

I hired Breanne Martin to wrap up an already-in-process dissolution on a recommendation from a trusted source. I did my research before meeting with her and really liked that she also has an MBA. That told me that not only is she qualified to complete my case, but she also has a business mind! Located in Arlington, her office is easy to get to; I was grateful not to have to go into downtown Everett. Working with Breanne was a pleasure; She works efficiently, but also listens with an empathetic ear. She was professional, gave sound advice and kept me informed through the process. She also prepared me to have realistic expectations. Breanne is also quite personable, relatable and has a sense of humor, which is nice as tensions can get high when one is getting a divorce. I recommended her to anyone who’s looking for legal services.

Breanne helped me to finish a custody case of mine which led to mitigation. She was very communicative, which I appreciated so much. I was never left out of any detail. She listened to everything I wanted and was honest with me. She made me feel very comfortable to talk to her and come to her about any questions. I highly recommend her! I will definately go back to her if I ever need to.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Arlington, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
