I interviewed a few attorneys before I came to Margaret. She was beyond professional when did not judge me in any way. I went through a very difficult time and she was there in every way I needed her to be. Margaret allowed me to explain to her exactly what I wanted and she took her time to listen and not stop me in any way. She took the time to learn how I communicated so she was able to communicate better with me. This was more than I needed to get through my divorce I got tired of my attorney I fired telling me that it would be best to just take the offer. I fought all the way through and in the long run I saved half the amount I would have spent in the 18 years I would have been paying my ex-wife. Thank you very much for everything.

I ONLY clicked on ONE lawyer, as time was of the essence when my spouse left me unexpectedly. Something I'd never drempt would happen! He'd cancelled any means he thought I'd have to stand up for my own rights. MARGARET BENDER and her very dedicated staff, DIANA and VANESSA, have all helped me survive down this very sad path we call Divorce! They allowed me to come in immediately. I had called on a Friday night, but they had no idea (nor did I) that I'd make it on a plane and be there that Monday morning! My whole life was being pulled from under me, I was confused, and, at the time so lost as to what was happening to me...Perhaps I'll post an update review when this is over. I'd recommend this law firm to my closest friends & family.

To Whom It May Concern: DIVORCE attorney.........This was the first time I ever needed counsel and I remember being so scared and nervous, and really felt lost at the time. Margaret and her team (Diana) really made me feel comfortable, relaxed, and guided me in every way possible through something I didn't really want to do, but knew it was in the best interest for me and my family; a divorce!!! I'm thankful for their dedication, compassion, hard work, and support. I give them a very high overall rating and would highly recommend them to counsel you if you are in need of an attorney. Thank you and best regards! L.

Steven Fury represented me in a slip and fall incident with a major cruise line. His knowledge of maritime law is extensive and when he speaks, it packs a punch! Refuses to play "Whack the Mole" game with defendants instead he hit's them with past cases relevant to your accident. An 8 hour day of mediation that was settled to my satisfaction. Thanks steve

We received the highest level of legal representation that an attorney and law firm can provide. Steve Fury's work was outstanding. His written work was complete, accurate, and thoroughly researched. At his court appearances, he demonstrated an ability to think quickly on his feet and used his extensive legal knowledge to back him. This attorney's work was well thought out and executed in a manner comparable to a professional chess match. Not only did Mr. Fury help us receive justice, he also provided care to his client, my husband, in the form of recommended counseling and guidance. Our case is over now; however, I look back and believe we were blessed to have this attorney represent us. He was a God send. He held the defendants accountable for their actions and sought justice for his client. He defended my husband's credibility and honor, and for that, and for the highly successful results of the case; we thank him and his firm from the bottom of our hearts.

Although Bryan didn't take the case on, he returned my call within 10 minutes, brainstormed with me viable options, and helped me formulate a legitimate game plan to try and obtain some justice. Greatly appreciated his candor, intelligence, and time. WA personal injury is a hard field to find attorneys with litigator mindsets that go above and beyond. I say this as someone who has 5 years of personal injury paralegal experience in both CA & WA. Hope I never need it, but if I get in an accident in WA, he will be my second phone call after 911! 12/10 recommend.

Bryan was my attorney on a wrongful death case involving a semi truck in 2017. He was an amazing person to work with. He was the only attorney I even considered hiring. Bryan goes above and beyond for his clients and he truly leaves no stone unturned in order to get the best outcome for his clients. He was always available to talk, very good at explaining things, extremely caring and kind. He is very intelligent and great at what he does. My life is changed because of what he was able to do for my family. I can never thank him enough for his help. Without him and his guidance I would not have made it through this process.

Bryan never stopped fighting for my family! He genuinely cared about us as his clients and worked his tail off to get ALL the money that was available to compensate my son for his injuries! I would confidently recommend him to any one of my family and friends.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Bellevue, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
