Most of us are not Legal experts. If we are wise, being humble enough to understand it's best to reach out when a situation is beyond what our knowledge/skills/abilities are able to do is when you need someone in your corner. For my situation, I needed an expert to help me with a Family Law case. I was panicking, scared, and did not know what to do. As a Man, that is sometimes hard to admit. I was referred to Casie by another Attorney as they felt she would be better able to represent me. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. From the very first phone call, Casie leaned in and first listened to me so she understood my situation. She did not rush me, allowed me to share my side of the story, paused, and then summarized where I was at. From there Casie really kicked it into high gear and explained to me that the more I helped her by being up front, honest, and providing her what she needed in a timely fashion, the better off I would be in the end. One of the biggest things that drives me crazy is when I hire a professional for any service and they don't keep in contact with me. With Casie, she is cut from a different cloth. Every single step of the way, Casie kept me informed with where she was with my case. If I needed to talk with her, at a minimum I received an email back within an hour or two and most times she was available to talk with me on the phone. Most importantly, and I really hope people reading this hear me loud and clear, Casie was HONEST and REAL with me about my case. She took the time to explain everything from the best possible outcome to what the maximum foreseeable loss may look like. Never once did she promise me my case was a slam dunk or she could guarantee anything. What she did do was to talk about most likely outcome scenarios and then how the case could change depending on what we chose to do, or in some instances, choosing not to do something. If you want someone who is honest, fair, logical, and transparent with your case, Casie Rodenberger and Whatcom Law Group is who you need to call. Please listen to me... You are not going to do better by representing yourself. Be humble and honest enough to understand Casie and her team are Law experts, and you want them in your corner. I fully support Casie and the Whatcom Law Group. They are a cut above the rest and second to none. If you need representation, you need to call Casie.

We went down to Blaine from Vancouver to get some documents notarized for real estate transactions in the US. Tanya was efficient, knowledgeable about the different requirements from state to state, and very careful to go over the documents in the detail that they required. We will be going back any time we need more US notary or paralegal services.

Recently I needed the services of a cross border Notary. After having had spoken to others I chose Tanya. Tanya went above and beyond and a provided excellent service. Not only did she meet me in a convenient location she also arranged to have the notarized document delivered to its destination without any inconvenience to me. She was caring and professional and I am grateful to have found her and without hesitation recommend Tanya to anyone who needs her services. Thank you so much Tanya 🙏 Shelley

I was so nervous to seek the assistance of a lawyer. My husband and I make a humble household income between us, and we had already been through the ringer before finally breaking down and realizing we needed professional legal assistance. We were so nervous to get taken advantage of or end up spending our only savings on through-the-roof legal fees. Len was the only lawyer who didn’t charge us some crazy fee just for an initial consultation - in fact he called me on a Saturday after receiving my email inquiry, and never charged me a thing until I had actually met with him in person and was feeling comfortable about the whole process. He broke everything down and was transparent every step of the way… he even worked with us on an extremely reasonable payment plan. We haven’t been officially approved for the green card yet, but he texted me this evening to inform me that their office sent off all our final paperwork this afternoon and provided us with a tracking number. I am feeling peaceful and confident after seeing how all the other steps in this process have gone, so far, with Len’s assistance. Honestly, seamless! I only wish we had hired him sooner instead of wasting about a year with Boundless Immigration, which got us nowhere except more confused and feeling hopeless about the whole process. Thank you, Len, for everything you’ve done to help us get our lives on a forward track! Thanks to your help I was able to quit my other job where I was being hosted on a TN visa and miserable… I now have a new job doing something that I love, in the US, legitimately… there is less stress in our home and we are expecting our first baby together in the fall and looking forward to the rest of our lives together!!! All I can say is hire Len now, don’t waste any more time on online scams like Boundless. He’s the real deal!

I absolutely, positively recommend Len Saunders of Blaine Immigration. I moved from Vancouver BC a few years ago, obtaining TN status on my own and re-establishing my professional career in Seattle. After marrying and buying a home, I attempted the immigration process on my own, without a lawyer. After getting stumped by changes to the document submission process and encountering significant delays at the NVC, I realized that my own handling of the immigration process was a formidable mistake. I reached out to several Seattle lawyers that I found on Yelp. They all declined my case, citing that they didn't take on "bail-out" cases where the process had advanced to this stage. One laywer declined my case but not without first a lecture making mistakes. Another gave me incorrect information. I felt the impending doom of losing my work authorization, my job and income source, and jeopardizing my family financially. I emailed Len Saunders on the recommendation of another Canadian green card holder. Seeing the urgency, he called me back within 30 minutes, and immediately educated me about options that would allow me to carry on working legally in the US while waiting for my interview. This help saved me from a disastrous situation where I would have to leave the US. He told me that I could contact him whenever I had questions. The rest of the process proceeded with step-by-step advice and hand-holding from Len. It took the stress away, which is worth more than what money can by. He met me before my interview to review my info packet, to make sure I had the correct documents. He advised on which flight to take to Montreal, where to stay to be close to the new consulate location, and what proof of bona fide marriage to bring. He gave us his cell phone and informed us to call from Montreal whatever the issue encountered ("nevermind the time difference!"). He wanted to know right away if the interview had issues and help resolve them immediately. If I were to turn back time, I would have hired Len at the get-go because he is an lawyer who is "on the pulse", and clearly cares about his clients and his work. He knows the latest, the minutiae, and is an expert among immigration lawyers when it comes to Canadians immigrating to the US.

A. Jeff Leghorn is a Canadian who lives and practises American law in Blaine, WA. He is adept at bridging both the cultural and legal divide of both countries with ease. He clearly heard the intimidation and frustration I felt in attempting to deal with an international legal issue regarding a Breech of Contract involving a large sum of money being withheld from me. Jeff understood my issue and immediately secured an appropriate Attorney in the State of Florida where the breech of contract and money offence took place. His expertise of being able to secure this Attorney empowered me to confidently move forwards towards a legal resolution regarding this overwhelming and daunting monetary issue that has been outstanding for 5 years. A.Jeff Leghorn is a very patient, kind and supportive professional whose legal services were integral in assisting me to turn a 5 year nightmare into a much brighter day with hope that I could not do as I did not know where to start. I have no hesitation in recommending A. Jeff Leghorn Law Services, Blain, WA.to any Canadian or American who requires expert legal advice in either country. He has timely responses and reasonal fee rates. Karen

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Blaine, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
