Retaining Polaris Injury Law took away a lot of the stress of dealing with my injury claim. I sustained a cervical herniation resulting in a permanent impairment and the need for a disc replacement. Attorney Chris Cazares and his staff took a true interest in my case and aggressively negotiated with the insurance company.

Without Chris I would have made horrible decisions related to my situation. His expert advice, willingness to work around my timeline, and understanding of how the situation should proceed was invaluable. I would recommend him to anyone that finds them-self in a difficult situation with the military. He is an expert in his field and his advice saved my career.

Christopher Cazares is the best military lawyer I could have hired. I was facing a drug court-martial as part of a “drug ring.” I watched Christopher outperform every lawyer in the room, including the senior prosecutor. His confidence and experience were levels above what I could have hoped for. After several days in court, my case was ultimately dismissed and I have resumed my career as if this investigation and court-martial never happened. I had both Christopher and a military appointed lawyer and the difference in experience was night and day. I can’t imagine what would have happened if I only had a military attorney. Several of the people in the ring went with just military attorneys and they either plead guilty or were found guilty. Christopher gave me confidence in my case and would always check up on me during this long process. He was calm and gave me good advice that lead to my innocence. He was well worth the money and I would hire again.

I faced up to year in jail. Christopher was the best. He answered all my questions, gave us a great strategy, and my case was dismissed. I am so thankful for our amazing resolution. Christopher was always positive and thorough. If I needed an answer all I had to do was ask.

At 19.5 years in the Air Force I failed a random drug test for a an active prescription in my medical records. Facing discharge and losing the benefits of almost 20 years of service I hired Chris. While this process was going Chris took the time and invested energy in the case, and made me feel like I was the #1 priority. He took the time to meet with my best friend who is also an attorney, but not in military law. It's a rare thing to see such team work in a world of mistrust. As I stood there tall in front of the commander and plead not guilty it was reassuring knowing that Chris was in my corner. When it came time for him to plead my case, he left no doubt about my innocence in the matter at hand. He provided more evidence as to why I was not guilty than the government had given the commander for action. He provided toxicology reports from the Air Force drug testing lab, how the substance in breaks down, and why it would show positive for what I did. His actions and defense shed light on the incompetence of the military readiness officer who was derelict in his duties by putting personal opinion ahead of science. In the end, because of what Chris did I'm retiring with my full benefits. Chris saved my retirement. If you have a doubt, don't. Chris is the right man for the job and is worth double what he charges. I'd recommend him 1,000 times over.

When I found Mr. Dabney I was on my way to being dis-enrolled from my ROTC program, even after the board of officers found me innocent. As an ROTC cadet I was very much unaware of how the process worked and what needed to be done in order to save my not yet started military career. When I first met with Mr. Dabney, he seemed to understand exactly what was going on and even showed compassion to my situation. I was given several options on how to move forward and did not feel pressured in any way to hire Mr. Dabney. Instead, he made sure that I understood my options and advised me to take time and think about the pros and cons to bring him onto my case. After a few days I decided that in fact, it would be in my best interest to hire someone who knew what needed to be done. He helped explain what each form I was signing meant and even contacted my chain of command when he felt like they were making me do things that were unnecessary and that didn't follow the regulation. Mr. Dabney was very knowledgeable on regulations and was always available to help me when something new came up. It was within a month of hiring Mr. Dabney that I was reinstated into my program. I owe this victory to him. I would recommend any ROTC student that finds him or herself in a similar situation to not only hire Mr. Dabney, but to not wait as long as I did to do so. I would seek his counsel during the board proceedings as well as once the dis-enrollment or LOA begins. I wish I was aware of this valuable asset when the process first started.

Mr. Dabney engaged quickly with sound advice and wise counsel when it was needed most. He provided excellent recommendations, responsive communication, and a calm demeanor. He helped resolve a very difficult and painful issue with military leadership in a non-confrontational way, which was the best case scenario. *I tried to leave this review several months ago but it got kicked back by AVVO for some reason? Second attempt to recognize excellence by Mr. Dabney.

Walter was hired regarding a bogus anti harassment case. After our first meeting I was shocked at possible outcome from such accusations. HIs quick and decisive action made the court proceeding a piece of cake. I have a great sense of security knowing to be engaged with him. I strongly recommend his services.

When I was blind sided with a BOGUS anti harassment restraining order out of the blue, I was unsure what to do or where to turn. I was referred to Walter Potebnya by an associate of his. What I liked most about consulting with and then hiring Mr. Potebnya was that he listened to me, was able to see me almost instantly, and heard me through my concerns for about 2 hours before ever discussing fees unlike most other attorneys who size out your wallet first. He took a strong interest in my situation and explained that he had experience in the area I needed professional help with. I felt very relieved after the consultation, and hired him for my issue at hand. He was very helpful throughout the period of uncertainty even taking calls after hours if I needed, which I did once. When our day in court came I cant say enough about how nice it was to have a confident attorney by your side. His professional and aggressive approach was exactly what I needed and sought after in a Lawyer representing me in court. He made very quick work of the case and in less than a hour, we had WON, and were out of the court room. I was please with his service and would recommend Mr. Walter Potebnya to anyone who asked.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Bothell, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
