Glenn pulled together all my Will, Executor, etc. documentation and gave impartial guidance and recommendations throughout. I appreciate Glenn's direct approach as well as being open and honest in regards to requests outside of his area of expertise. In those cases, he will recommend someone he trusts to deliver. I would leverage Glenn for future assistance.

I contacted Glenn with a request to prepare all the standard estate documents (Will, health care directive, durable power of attorney, etc) within the next 3 weeks. Within 2 weeks all the documents had been prepared and signed/notarized. During that time, he answered all my questions and incorporated any concerns I had into the documents, using language I could understand. He was very knowledgeable, professional and responsive. After contacting several attorney offices, I found his rates to be comparable and even slightly better than some. He is very approachable, and I really appreciated how he worked me into his schedule, even though he was preparing to move offices within the next two weeks. I would highly recommend Glenn and will go to him again, if the need arises.

I am please to recommend Glen Bishop and the Law Offices of Glen Bishop PLLC. Several months ago, Mr. Bishop drafted an agreement presently used for many of my company’s clients. He offered sound advice, asked pertinent questions and worked swiftly to produce a document that is fair to all concerned. Blake Newfangled Commerce, LLC

Glenn is knowledgeable and articulate. He is my go to lawyer in all matters of legal issues. If I need help with something that he does not practice he finds the resources for me so that my questions are answered. As a financial planner I refer all my clients to him for bankruptcy and estate planning. I am confident in his abilities and he charges a fair price for his services.

Glenn really helped my wife and I out when we were in a tough spot. We needed to file for bankruptcy. He walked us through all of our options, and the implications of each of those choices. He asked pertinent questions, and clearly really cared about doing the job carefully and correctly. We had no issues at all with getting a favorable judgement, and it was a pleasure to work with him.

Saphronia was hired to represent my parents estate with a recommendation from the estate planning attorneys. She knew how to explain the laws and rights my parents had when they were alive and what they did to secure their wishes. Being located in Ohio and in Washington, she was able to communicate what was needed and what my brother and I could do to help save time. Saphronia and her staff were efficient and did not contact me with anything that was not necessary but was able to conduct business with precision. Saphronia had a way to explain multiple options and, when I inquired about different points or had questions she was able to answer me clearly which helped me make my decision. For a situation that no one wants to go through, Elder Law was a rock in my storm! I was a first time executor and no question was too big or too small for Saphronia. I have her number saved in my phone and will definitely be recommending her to anyone that I know in Washington, family and friends that could benefit from her services!

I would recommend her to my family and friends. She took her time free of charge to consult with me via phone. She gave me confidence to attend my Adult Protective Services meeting without her services present. She could have easily taken my money to have her attend the meeting but through her encouragement she saved me the money by assuring me everything I’m doing is wonderful and I’ll shortly have CPS’ case closed with unfounded allegations.

I found Saphronia in a online forum responding to the questions of another individual whose situation was very similar to my own, her detailed knowledge of employment/ labor law inspired me to contact her directly for legal guidance. From the get go her professionalism put me at ease knowing that my case was in good hands. Saphronia's representation went above and beyond my exceptions and I would highly recommend her to anyone seeking an attorney.

Jerrica Seeger is fantastic. She is updating my will now. She has finished my husbands will and has made sure everything is done the way he wants it done. She took time to explain what we needed to do to get our paperwork in order and no one will have to worry about what to do after we are gone because it’s all very clearly stated, I highly recommend Jerrica. She did a will for a friend of mine and the manner in which she prepared the papers prevented a lot of problems for the family, I was very impressed. I have recommended her to my family and friends and I will continue to do so. Jerrica is honest hard working and will make sure your wishes-are heard and honored.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Des Moines, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
