I would highly recommend Aaron Engle for your disability-related legal needs. After researching several attorneys in and out of state, I decided Aaron was the right fit for my case, and I stand confident in that decision to this day. Aaron worked diligently on my case for two years. He was always very honest in his assessment of my situation and helped to educate me about the ins and outs of ERISA cases. He listened compassionately to my story and patiently answered my never-ending string of questions. Even when we had already discussed things and I still didn’t quite “get it,” he would patiently explain it to me again. He gave sound advice on how to approach my case, and I believe it benefited me greatly to follow his advice. His communication was always thorough, professional, and kind. He was patient with the time I took to reflect, consider my needs, and make big decisions. He never pushed me or rushed me in any particular direction. I truly felt that he cared about my best interests, listened, and did his best to work toward the outcome I wanted, even when he wasn’t confident that it would be possible. He walked the difficult line of managing my expectations while still fighting for the outcome I hoped for. He really stepped up in negotiating a settlement on the terms that I requested, in a way that is not always done. He reached out to colleagues who could collaborate on my case and successfully assist with my requests. This all led to the resolution of my case in the best way possible given the difficult circumstances that often surround our need to seek disability attorneys in the first place. I would not hesitate to work with him again in the future. Thank you Aaron & team for all you did for me.

I cannot recommend my attorney Aaron I Engle highly enough. He embodies decency and discipline, making him not just a remarkable human being but a truly exceptional lawyer. What sets him apart is his honesty; he never provides false hope but instead offers you the truth. From day one, he lays out a clear timeline, giving you a realistic expectation of the process ahead. One of his most outstanding skill is his ability to listen attentively during conversations, ensuring that he truly understands your concerns and needs. My endorsement of his services isn't based on a single case but on the consistent success he has delivered. I have referred two of my friends to him, and he has emerged victorious in all three cases including mine. His working methods and ethical standards remain unwaveringly high, ensuring a standard of excellence that brings peace of mind to his clients. Having had him by my side, I can attest to the satisfaction and reassurance that comes from having such a competent and reliable attorney in your corner. Thank you Aaron, your commitment to your clients are truly commendable. Getnet Yigzaw.

I haven't had the chance to hire William yet but he has been a tremendous wealth of information here at Avvo (and he even spent time on the phone with me), from dissolution to contempt to garnishment to foreclosure, etc. Life has been a bundle of jo … er… heck lately ;) and he seems to be able to provide information in every area I need help in. When I am ready to hire, it'll be William. :)

I had several questions about my foreclosure, that I posted in a few different comments with my questions, and William answered them all and he was exactly in line with what the "evil" QLS said.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Edmonds, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
