When I first meet Jennifer in her office I was a nervous wreck. I had already served my children's mother with divorce paperwork and was trying to get custody of our children myself. The decision to make some changes to better my children’s and my life was important and had to be done. Once I got my children's mother's response I lost confidence and needed help. So I found myself Pacing back and forth in Jennifer's office telling her of my situation, I felt quickly at ease. Jennifer believed in me and what I was trying to accomplish. Jennifer reassured me that everything was going to be ok and she would try her best to help me. Realizing that my divorce was going to difficult and the custody of my children was not going to be any easier. Jennifer never promised the outcome of our case, but she did promise she would represent me and try her best. Jennifer and her Firm gave me the chance to prove that I can and could provide a safer, cleaner environment and all around better life for my three children. I could go on and on about my situation but I am here to talk about Jennifer Gogert. When no one would believe me Jennifer did. When the Cards were stacked against me Jennifer knocked em down and reshuffled the Deck. If you’re honest and you believe in your heart what you’re doing is right, sometimes all it takes is finding that right person to listen to you. I guess you might say Jennifer was that person for me and I will never forget what she did for my children I....

Jennifer and her team helped me resolve several post-divorce issues that came up two months before my last support payment to my ex. During my initial interview, Jennifer grasped the whole scenario within minutes, and before the end of the interview she gave me three possible ways to respond. In the end, we won in court on all three issues. After that, I used Jennifer and her team to tie up some more loose ends pertaining to my divorce. While Jennifer cost me a bit more than my previous attorney, I believe I got better results, so the investment was worth it.

Jennifer is a wonderful attorney who is responsive to her clients needs and willing to strongly advocate for her clients. She is very quick and responsive. Her team is extraordinary and when things are difficult, they are all there to keep you on track with next steps and what to expect. There are no questions when you're represented by Jennifer. She keeps you informed and helps you know what is in the best interest of your case. I never felt overwhelmed by the process and I knew that Jennifer would help to ensure that the outcome of my case was exactly what I was hoping for. She is fantastic, brilliant and very easy to work with. I've recommended her to a friend who retained her services and felt that her experience with Jennifer was just as beneficial.

When I found Michael, I had just been fired by my second attorney, in a very complicated, difficult, and high stakes divorce case. My case had already been run into the ground by two previous lawyers and even more so by the entire so-called justice system. Things were at a very low point, and no one else would take my case because of how difficult it was. Michael almost didn’t take it himself. Immediately, I knew though, and I think he knew too, that he was the only one who could right the ship. With him by my side in the courtroom, the dynamic immediately shifted. I knew I was in good hands. His courtroom skills are second to none. And he’s not afraid to take it all the way when it’s the right thing to do. In my case, he’s the only one who could have. Even more extraordinary than his skills, knowledge, and demeanor in the courtroom was his demeanor as my attorney. He was always professional, ethical, patient, and compassionate. He always found a gentle and tactful way to disagree with me, and I always felt confident trusting his advice and deferring to his strategic decisions. He always listened to me and respected my opinions, and believed in me, in a way that no one else had. He was unwavering in his commitment to fight for me against all odds. And against all odds, and with so much tenacity, stamina, and grace, he won. We won. In the process, he restored my faith in the justice system and humanity as a whole. This attorney is a warrior of the highest order and an angel walking on earth. If you are lucky enough to get him in your corner, you should consider yourself truly blessed. His advocacy was worth every penny and more.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Everett, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
