Joel was a very communicative and up front kind of guy. If he diddnt know, he would tell you and get back to you with an answer. I feel that my matters were resolved in a reasonable time at a reasonable rate. If I have any issues in the future I would trust Joel to handle them.

I hired Joel Nichols to represent me in a civil matter and can honestly say he had and kept my best interest in mind throughout the case. He is honest, knowledgeable and professional. Joel kept me informed, listened to my concerns and worked so very hard for me from beginning of the case to the very end of the case. I felt so fortunate to have his skill and tenacity on my side. If I ever need an attorney again, I will most definitely and without a doubt return to Joel Nichols.

Our family has spent the last year working with Mr. Nichols on a very difficult case involving domestic and child abuse. I have worked with many attorneys in the context of my own profession and have never seen anyone work harder to obtain the right outcome. He was a caring and compassionate advocate as well as an extremely smart and knowledgable attorney. He has my respect and my gratitude. I would recommend him to anyone. He obtained the outcome which guaranteed protection of both abused parties.

My case with Joel Nichols has extended over the course of a year. As all cases are, it has been emotionally draining. That being said, my situation has dealt with horrifically difficult issues. Joel has given me prudent guidance throughout this time. The number of hours he put into my case were above and beyond, and his trial abilities are absolutely skilled.

I have never been one to write testimonial's or fill out surveys, even though I have run across many individuals deserving of my gratitude and thanks. But, this time I feel compelled to give a testimonial of Joel Nichols because I am sure there are many of you out there that do not know where to turn when a life changing episode happens unexpectedly and has the ability to debilitate your mental and physical being. In 2009 I was fired by a large corporation in the State of Washington after working there for 5 years as an executive with exemplary appraisals and many accolades. The reason for my firing is still being challenged in the court systems 5 years later. I contacted Joel soon after I was fired, I had talked to another firm, but they did not want to take on such a big giant, stating that this particular corporation had "deep pockets and could go on forever." Joel spent hours with me, understanding this law suit could be a very complicated maze of rules, both due to public and private policies, explaining the process and the endurance needed, not sugar-coating anything. The structure of this corporation and the intricacies involved in the case should have been overwhelming for anyone to comprehend, but Joel spent hours of time reviewing hundreds if not thousands of documents and did his magic. This is a case that could have been monetarily, mentally and physically consuming, but Joel has supported all three and not once did Joel forget over the last 5 years who I was, how I was feeling, always in touch to keep me in the loop, but most important that he believed in my case and was fighting for justice for me. Everyone wants their voice heard and case won, but more important is that you are validated throughout your plight, and Joel not only has the ability to comprehend and articulate, his integrity, ethics, and his passion for his clients is unmeasurable. It is who he is! I encourage anyone who needs a lawyer to take the time to talk to Joel Nichols; I will guarantee you will come out feeling that you have chosen the right person to protect your rights.

I got in touch with Omar to help me contest a moving infraction on I 405. I did not understand why the WSP thought I had crossed a white line or failed to follow a sign. Omar and his team did a great job fighting my ticket and got it dismissed so I have no driving record. Omar is the best.

I would like to recommend Patrick and his law firm. I would also like to recognize Stephanie Kasper. I have been represented by them for the past two plus years. They give professional, personal and ethical care. I was treated with respect and care every step of the way. I could not ask for better care. I have so much respect for them as an injured worker they will work tirelessly to help you through every aspect of your claim and represent you. I was in very good hands and would recommend them to anyone dealing with a injured worker claim.

Patrick Cook and Stephanie Kasper of Walthew Law Firm did an amazing job for Me during my struggle with Sedgwick. Stephanie was my constant contact letting me know what I needed to do and what was going on step by step. Even when I was emotionally drained and out right terrified they both walked me through this process and made all the right moves and legal processing that needed to be done. I would recommend Patrick and Stephanie to anyone who needs a qualified and expert legal team to stand with you and protect your rights. My gratitude for your services forever. Thank You both!.

I was injured at work on my neck and had a fusion on my c5-c6 spine which left me with a lot of stress, questions and uncertainty. I contacted The Walthew Law Firm where I met with Patrick C. Cook and his paralegal Marilyn Mc Doo at their office, they were very prompt and professional during the consultation, I can say that the atmosphere and the way they greeted me made me feel like a very important client, and they took consideration for any conditions I had at the time. I then received representation from The Walthew Law Firm and have been pleased with my overall experience with them. Patrick Cook handled everything else, including the legal issues, doctor’s bills. The paralegal Marilyn Mc doo assigned to my case was amazing, she handled all my issues with L&I. On behalf of Patrick Cook, she responded promptly to my phone calls and emails and gave me solid advice on what to do next as my case was moving forward. I was so please on my decision to seek legal counsel, I frankly don’t know how I would have done it without The Walthew Law Firm. I would recommend 100% the firm, and if you do hire them as your lawyers, try to make sure Patrick C. Cook is your legal lawyer. Once again, thank you very much Patrick for been there for me. He is the BEST!!!!!!!!

I come from a family of attorneys, grandfather, father, brother, daughter and daughter-in-law so I've been around the profession my whole life. I can tell you that Michael is really "on his game" and he is what's really important in an attorney, knowledgable. But what makes working with Mike so great is his demeanor. Friendly, he listens, he asks really great questions and makes the whole experience easy. I can only highly recommend. If you're looking for a great family law attorney look no further.

Mike was very kind and understanding of my situation. He asked all the right questions but also provided much needed guidance to try to help me resolve my issue. He made sure I had all the correct paperwork and knew the applicable laws and rules that applied to me. But more importantly, he reached out to me to check in even after everything was done to make sure that I was doing okay. His effort and genuine concern really made all the difference in the world, while I was dealing with one of the most stressful situations I have ever been in. I would recommend him to anyone that is looking for a sincere, thoughtful and knowledgeable attorney.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Everett, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
