Going through a divorce is undoubtedly one of life's most challenging experiences. In the midst of emotional turmoil, I was fortunate to have found a divorce attorney who not only possesses exceptional legal skills but also truly listens and empathizes with their clients. David Kalisek is a compassionate legal expert who guided me through the process with sensitivity and diligence. Despite the complexities of divorce law, Mr. Kalisek and his office excelled at communicating legal concepts in a manner that was clear and easily understandable. They patiently walked me through the process, explaining each step and the potential outcomes in a language I could comprehend. Their willingness to answer all my questions, no matter how trivial, fostered an environment of trust and transparency. One of the standout qualities of David Kalisek was their unwavering support and responsiveness. Whenever I needed guidance or had concerns, they promptly addressed my queries, providing reassurance and encouragement. Their accessibility and willingness to keep me informed at every step of the process brought immense peace of mind during an otherwise stressful period. I appreciated his forthright approach and guidance. In the realm of divorce law, David Kalisek stands out as an exemplary legal professional. Their empathetic nature, combined with their exceptional legal expertise, makes them a rare gem in the legal industry. If you are seeking a divorce attorney who not only listens but also advocates passionately for your best interests, I wholeheartedly recommend his services. He was instrumental in helping me navigate a difficult chapter of my life, and I am immensely grateful for the support and guidance.

Mr. Kalisek was very professional and right to the point in every case matter. He was fast acting, always responded with thoroughness and quickness. I never had to wonder what was next or what we would be dealing with in court. I would recommend him as one of the top lawyers on the peninsula!

I hired David as my attorney when my ex-wife hired her own attorney in an attempt to acquire back child support, and modify our then existing custody agreement. David proved himself to be a competent family law attorney, with a good command of the law, plus the ability to explain things in a way that was understandable to a layperson like myself. In addition, David frequently used his good legal judgement to help me become aware of the options at my disposal. David worked hard to keep my case out of court, using mediation and direct consultation with the opposing counsel. He actively worked to limit my legal fees, and the risks of going to court. Unfortunately, due to the extremely litigious, and obstinate, opposing counsel, we were unable to avoid a trial/hearing. During the hearing, David demonstrated his good focus, thorough understanding of the law, and his aptitude for handling formidable legal opponents. I believe that the outcome of the contest, which maintained my 50% custody of my youngest son, and limited my personal financial impact, was due to David's high level of competency as an attorney. I am thankful that I retained his services, and would definitely recommend him to others who are faced with family law challenges.

When I found Michael, I had just been fired by my second attorney, in a very complicated, difficult, and high stakes divorce case. My case had already been run into the ground by two previous lawyers and even more so by the entire so-called justice system. Things were at a very low point, and no one else would take my case because of how difficult it was. Michael almost didn’t take it himself. Immediately, I knew though, and I think he knew too, that he was the only one who could right the ship. With him by my side in the courtroom, the dynamic immediately shifted. I knew I was in good hands. His courtroom skills are second to none. And he’s not afraid to take it all the way when it’s the right thing to do. In my case, he’s the only one who could have. Even more extraordinary than his skills, knowledge, and demeanor in the courtroom was his demeanor as my attorney. He was always professional, ethical, patient, and compassionate. He always found a gentle and tactful way to disagree with me, and I always felt confident trusting his advice and deferring to his strategic decisions. He always listened to me and respected my opinions, and believed in me, in a way that no one else had. He was unwavering in his commitment to fight for me against all odds. And against all odds, and with so much tenacity, stamina, and grace, he won. We won. In the process, he restored my faith in the justice system and humanity as a whole. This attorney is a warrior of the highest order and an angel walking on earth. If you are lucky enough to get him in your corner, you should consider yourself truly blessed. His advocacy was worth every penny and more.

Brilliant attorney. Capable of sorting out legal chaos with specialized knowledge. Strong no-nonsense and ethical. Highly intelligent. He is not afraid to go where others fear to tread. Lawyers tend to get a bad wrap yes even defense attorneys. Braden represented me on two overlapping cases and never made me feel any kind of way. He probably could tell from my face that i already felt the full embarrassing weight of having to come to him with the added burden of another case whilst litigating the first....despite us not seeing eye to eye politically he still defended my second amendment rights and even got my firearm returned to me. Which i thought would never happen and was very satisfying to go down to city hall and receive my gun back. Even though the crooked Marysville cops still have my magazine and holster for some very strange reason I'm proud to say my firearm remains in my possession. Braden, throughout the two years he represented me always made sure i was on time and informed about what time and where I needed to be and despite not having seen an end to my Marysville drama still give Mr. Pence a 5 star review. He's a great guy and so extremely well respected in the community that if you pick him for some reason get priority treatment from even the worst judges/prosecutors and never have to worry about sitting and waiting for your name to get called in alphabetical order. i'm sure many lawyers are granted that respect its just a really cool feeling to know that you are being represented by a winner like Braden one of the best. Also just so its known just because I couldn't jump through the ridiculous b/s that the Marysville court requires of a person that is gainfully employed and living an otherwise productive tax paying lifestyle doesn't take away from the great job he will do for anyone he represents. Pick Braden and you wont regret it I never have.

I was very fortunate to have Braden represent me in my DUI case in Snohomish County. Thanks to his hard work and knowledge, the result was a full dismissal. He kept me updated on the status of my case, was clear on the potential benefits and consequences of all my legal courses of action and ultimately helped me get all charges dropped. Throughout the entire proceeding, I felt confident in his ability and advice. Braden's an excellent lawyer and I highly recommend him.

Braden Pence successfully represented me on a charge by the Seattle Police Department of "Excessive Use of Horn". The charge was related to my honking my car's horn in a display of approval of the Occupy Seattle encampment as I drove by it. Braden was able to convince the prosecutor to drop the charge, prior to trial, on the basis that my 1st Amendment free speech rights had been violated by the SPD.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Everett, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
