Attorney Dustin K. Burk went above and beyond to ensure that I was able to put my best foot forward and not let a negative experience completely derail my life. He listened to what my goals and expectations were given my circumstances and was realistic with me. He was beyond understanding and compassionate when it came to my anxiety and nerves. Didn’t waiver when I asked questions and explained the process and all potential outcomes to me. I appreciate the time and dedication he spent over the course of my case and would beyond recommend his services should you require them. The entire team at Russell and Hill are professional, prompt, and great at helping navigate what were uncharted waters for me while living in a state where I have no direct family.

Last year, I was involved in a T-bone car accident. Initially, I turned to my regular lawyer for assistance, but due to their heavy caseload, they referred me to Russell & Hill, assuring me that I would be well taken care of—and they were absolutely right. From the very beginning, the team at Russell & Hill demonstrated exceptional care and professionalism. I met with Jaclyn at their office, where I provided her with the necessary images and video footage of the accident. She clearly explained the entire process to me, ensuring I understood what to expect every step of the way. What stood out to me most was how much they prioritized my well-being. The accident left me with severe body pain and a wrist injury, which made day-to-day tasks difficult. Since my car was totaled, they referred me to treatment facilities conveniently located near my area, so I didn’t have to travel far. Throughout the process, I had constant and open communication with Jaclyn and Alexis. They were always available to answer any questions I had and frequently checked in to see how I was doing and how my treatment was progressing. I am extremely pleased with the level of care and support I received from Russell & Hill. They made a challenging situation much easier to navigate, and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. I highly recommend their services to anyone in need of professional, compassionate legal assistance.

I referred a friend to Matt at this law office. He didn’t want to help and referred my friend to 3 other people who didn’t even practice the kind of help he needed and one of the numbers was out of service.

Lawyers tend to get a bad wrap yes even defense attorneys. Braden represented me on two overlapping cases and never made me feel any kind of way. He probably could tell from my face that i already felt the full embarrassing weight of having to come to him with the added burden of another case whilst litigating the first....despite us not seeing eye to eye politically he still defended my second amendment rights and even got my firearm returned to me. Which i thought would never happen and was very satisfying to go down to city hall and receive my gun back. Even though the crooked Marysville cops still have my magazine and holster for some very strange reason I'm proud to say my firearm remains in my possession. Braden, throughout the two years he represented me always made sure i was on time and informed about what time and where I needed to be and despite not having seen an end to my Marysville drama still give Mr. Pence a 5 star review. He's a great guy and so extremely well respected in the community that if you pick him for some reason get priority treatment from even the worst judges/prosecutors and never have to worry about sitting and waiting for your name to get called in alphabetical order. i'm sure many lawyers are granted that respect its just a really cool feeling to know that you are being represented by a winner like Braden one of the best. Also just so its known just because I couldn't jump through the ridiculous b/s that the Marysville court requires of a person that is gainfully employed and living an otherwise productive tax paying lifestyle doesn't take away from the great job he will do for anyone he represents. Pick Braden and you wont regret it I never have.

I was very fortunate to have Braden represent me in my DUI case in Snohomish County. Thanks to his hard work and knowledge, the result was a full dismissal. He kept me updated on the status of my case, was clear on the potential benefits and consequences of all my legal courses of action and ultimately helped me get all charges dropped. Throughout the entire proceeding, I felt confident in his ability and advice. Braden's an excellent lawyer and I highly recommend him.

Braden Pence successfully represented me on a charge by the Seattle Police Department of "Excessive Use of Horn". The charge was related to my honking my car's horn in a display of approval of the Occupy Seattle encampment as I drove by it. Braden was able to convince the prosecutor to drop the charge, prior to trial, on the basis that my 1st Amendment free speech rights had been violated by the SPD.

Josh is a very professional yet personal attorney. He cares enough to look over the whole case, to find and act on the inconsistencies in the discovery. He listened and supported my defense without making me feel uncomfortable in any way. He even went out of his way to help my witnesses feel comfortable about a rather embarrassing element that was part of the trial. i have never felt so comfortable and been so happy with any legal professional. All that and positive results, you cant beat Josh Field "Superstar"

Josh was very efficient with getting my case handled in a timely matter. He always returned my phone calls and always had an answer for me. He's very kind and works hard to be the best lawyer he can be. I was very confident the whole time my case was going on. I would definitely go to him again if need be, but I definitely don't plan on getting in trouble again! I'm very thankful to of had him on my side.

Ms. Halbert was the lawyer assigned to my now-adopted, then foster daughter when she was in state dependency. Ms. Halbert was incredibly engaged and went out of her way to advocate for my daughter's wishes, including driving multiple hours to meet with her briefly, and pushing against DCYF when their wishes contrasted with that of my daughter. I would absolutely want her representing me, or any child, if I had the option to choose.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Everett, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
