This is actually a tough review to write because truly I have appreciated so many things about Emily and her team. Some things that come to mind are that she would always encourage me kindly and professionally not to waste my time, effort, and money on a battle that I would not win. That being said, when there arose a time that she knew there was something I was passionate about she was always ready to go to bat for me. Another thing I loved about her was her and her office teams attention to detail, my documents always ended up looking very professional and free of typos and although I am a strong writer, Emily is also a strong writer which really helped get the story that needed to be told out there. Emily is truly a unique individual; she is personable and friendly and honest and kind; qualities that can be tough to find in an attorney. I suggest that you learn to trust her implicitly as getting through family litigation issues is stressful enough as it is. I can’t tell you how many times I was grateful to have such an amazing lady in my corner. I can’t say enough good things about her.

Emily Hahn has represented me in two cases, one of which we are still involved in. First, she helped me get a protection order. This was one of the most difficult times in my life. She gave me wonderful representation but her very caring and compassionate nature was what really won me over. Since then she has been representing me in a divorce. She has shown sound advice, and I have been very pleasantly surprised at the outcome of the final results of her motions. I have seen Ms. Hahn's expertise show through many times, and this has benefited me greatly. She is a very respectable, ethical and loyal attorney. If you need to hire an attorney, your best choice is Emily Hahn.

I hired Emily from day one she worked on my dissolution case and my dvpo case she is a true hard working and dedicated professional. She has amazing critical thinking skills and is always ahead of the game. She is fiscally honest when billing, honest in her advice and truly very organized. Attending court numerous times I objectively saw many attorneys running through facts and data and flying paper work around. Emily always presented her self as calm and organized, which was amazing. Her preparation prior to a Case is extremely thorough and she was worth every penny. Emily is thought prepared and 3 steps ahead in court and on my case.Emily and her paralegal are a huge investment they are a wonderful duo. Thank you for everything!

Ms. Hahn has done a stellar job in representing my family's interests throughout my complex divorce case. She approaches each step with great forethought, stands firm on legal matters she represents for her clients, partners extremely well with opposing counsel in complex cases, is excellent at providing regular status updates on how the case is going, is compassionate, and genuinely cares about the overall case and families' best interests as a whole. I wholeheartedly recommend her to those searching for an attorney who will represent your best interests, present the best solutions for your family, and remain committed to supporting you throughout the process.

I have know C. Anthony for almost 30 years. I was in professional school when he was in Law School. I have always been impressed with Tony's honesty and integrity. He has been my attorney for 25+ years and I have had outstanding service and attention. Tony has the rare gift of humor that dovetails well with a highly professional presentation. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for an honest, caring, spirited, "real" family man. He has unique experience in several aspects of the law and has represented me in the health professions admirably. I view Mr. Davis as one of my closest and respected friends as well as my attorney. 5 stars...a true "10".

Diane represented my son in a family dispute over a parenting plan and alienation charges. She was successful in getting all of the charges dismissed. She is very professional and extremely effective in arguing a case. We all thought Diane was a pleasure to work with. We would recommend Diane to anyone with a legal family issue.

From the outset of our engagement, Andrew was uber prepared. He knew my case, knew my history, and knew the spectrum of potential issues. Prior to my court date, he ably led me through a comprehensive prep for the hearing--assuaging all of my concerns and answering questions. During the actual hearing, Andrew was polished and composed; he was organized, thorough and seemed to anticipate the judge's actions. He made this process seamless. I can not imagine a better disability advocate than Andrew McDonald.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Everett, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
