Nathan and Anna handled a very complex, in depth mortgage issue involving a quiet title action for me. This issue had plagued me for many years. Once retained, they hit the ground running, sifting through the many legal issues involving this matter with professionalism and expertise and they quickly settled my case to my complete satisfaction. I highly recommend them.

Our family suffered the loss of a loved one in a tragedy, and we contacted Nathan Sukhia at Gig Harbor Law for help. After an initial review of the facts, one of the first things he did was recommend we team up with another firm with extensive experience and success with this sort of case. During the entire process, we were very pleased with the level of expertise, professionalism, sensitivity, and communications. We recently settled the case, and we are very pleased with the outcome. We heartily recommend Gig Harbor Law. We are confident Nathan and his team were able to win the best possible settlement.

The turn over rate at the office must be very high, we had a garnishment case so we paid all of our fees upfront. Every time we called for a status update we spoke with a different paralegal. Finally after weeks of not hearing anything, we received a call from a paralegal named Ashley. She was wonderful and imformative and put our concerns at ease. She was abke to wrap our case quickly. When we paid our fees we were told by Mr. Sukhia that it would take no more than 3 months. But by the time Ashley closed our case it took almost 9 months total. We fell through the cracks.

Nathan represented me after I was sued over an easement dispute. It was not a typical easement issue between neighbors but a fairly complex one about an empty lot that had multiple easements on it and involved multiple parties. There are had also been a prior lawsuit over the same piece of property, so there was a lot complexity to my case. Over the nearly two year ordeal, I knew that I could always trust Nathan to bring me all the facts, have my best interest in heart, provide options and a make a good recommendation on how we should proceed. I appreciated Nathan's collaborative approach, thorough communication, and ability to explain legalese in layman's terms. We won our case by dismissal at Summary Judgement, without having to go trial, and were even reimbursed some attorney fees by the judge. Nathan is a great attorney and I have benefited tremendously by his knowledge and expertise.

Great service! We've had Mr. Sukhia handle our legal issues for the past few years. We recently had a time-sensitive business matter for which we needed legal counsel and Mr. Sukhia handled the matter promptly. He reviewed our information and drew up the addendum we wanted by the end of the day. While he gave us quality work, he was also conscious of not lingering over it, and was able to delegate some of the foot work to his paralegal, which helped greatly in keeping our costs down. He is quick to comprehend the nature of a situation, consistently gives excellent quality in work, and manages his time extremely well. We will definitely be contacting him in the future with any other legal questions.

Ms. Campbell prepared my will. Helpful, accommodating, and practical. This was my second major work with her. In 2018, she prepared documents for me for a contract of some complexity.

Chris is the BEST! Truly, the best. I met with multiple attorneys while going through a divorce. I had a consultation when I was going to switch representation and his pointers for where I was in my situation were spot on! By following his advice I completely changed the momentum in my case. I interviewed a lot of lawyers and Chris is hands down the best. He was level headed and educated me in my current situation as well as managed my expectations for what was to come. I cannot recommend him enough. Tracie, his paralegal, and him make a great team and are so personal. Please make a wiser first choice than I initially did and just hire him. I am positive you will save thousands just by starting off with the right person to represent you.

I have been a client of Chris and Tracie’s for almost three years. I have worked with several other law firms and attorneys. I can say that it is possible to find a good attorney but it is very difficult to find a good law firm. Harbor Family Law provides the complete package. I have never met an attorney as calm and effective as Chris, a paralegal as incredible as Tracie, nor an operations manager as kind and considerate as Kelli. Harbor Family Law is what every client hopes to find when seeking an attorney. The staff upholds standards of integrity and diligence that is difficult to find elsewhere. Chris represents his cases with clarity and intelligence. He is direct while maintaining respect for all parties involved. He provides clients with insight and direction. Tracie is irreplaceable in the law community. She is responsive, and truly invested in her work. She is knowledgeable and has a vigor for the best possible outcome for their clients. As a team Chris and Tracie are exceptional. Together they provide a stable atmosphere where clients can trust that they are in good hands. Kelli is truly a breath of fresh air and a joy to communicate with. The character and dependability of Harbor Family Law is outstanding. I simply cannot recommend them enough!

Chris has been my attorney for over 12 yrs now, representing me in custody matters concerning my daughter. He has all the qualities a client would look for in their attorney. First, his communication style both with clients and in court is clear, calm, and genuinely empathetic. Chris is able to come up with rational solutions and present them to all parties involved in a very palatable way. He is also highly analytical and detail oriented, able to put together all the pieces of the puzzle to problem solve complicated cases with lots of data/documents. Chris has never missed a beat in getting me and my daughter the best possible outcomes, while always being direct and honest with me about potential outcomes. Last but not least, Chris appears to be highly respected within his own community both among other attorneys and judges/commissioners. It should also be noted that Chris has an exceptional assistant. Tracie is incredibly knowledgeable, helpful, and empathetic. Together, they make a truly indispensable team that I cannot recommend highly enough!

Hiring Attorney Guymon was one of the best decisions I could have made entering my divorce, he and his paralegal, Tressa Smith, made all the difference in navigating and battling through a challenging divorce. Aside from their legal expertise, they handled my case with such care and compassion. They listened, helped me remain calm in some of the most trying times in my life, and stood up for me always. Their level of prompt and continuous communication was outstanding, I was always kept in the loop in real-time. I never felt alone or unprotected during the twelve-plus months of working with them. Ultimately, they enabled me to find my way out of a 20+ year marriage with my integrity intact and enough time and resources to find a new beginning in life. I highly recommend them to anyone going through a challenging divorce.

Bryon is wonderful. He supported me and my spouse through every step of our divorce with grace and compassion. During an extremely stressful portion of our lives, he and his team acted efficiently and professionally. It was a huge relief to know that someone was always there taking care of the details we wouldn't have even thought about. It gave us back the energy to just focus on each other during this difficult time. Really kind man. Thank you Bryon!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Gig Harbor, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
