In my profession (Police Detective Seattle Police) its sometimes hard to find legal advice that you can really trust. I did not hire John as he was able to assist me without retaining him. He spent a few hours on the phone with me which he did not have to do, and was able to coach me through the problem I was having. He went above anything I expected and yet wont let me buy him a beer. John, while you aren't my lawyer you have truly done a service to me that I am very thankful for. For you to consult with me the many times you did, at no cost I'm grateful.

John and his staff were great! They settled my case with more money than I had hoped for. My case was difficult to begin with since it was at a four way intersection and I was t-boned. John Greaney is a phenomenal attorney with years of experience and he's dedicated to do the absolute best for his clients. He's extremely intelligent and will fight tooth and nail for you, probably the best attorney I know and I work in this field. Insurance companies are no match for him to deal with. Highly recommend!

I was recently taken advantage of by someone in the medical field. It was a sensitive and tricky case but The Greaney Law Firm took it anyway. Karen Scudder and staff worked well as a team in support of John Greaney. They were all very respectful and sensitive to my needs. They helped me get the help I needed and fought hard for justice for me. John discussed my options with me when we got settlement offers. We held out for a larger settlement and got it! It far exceeded my expectations. I couldn’t have been more impressed with everyone in the office. I put my trust in them and they all really came through for me!-SL

John and Karen were an amazing group to work with. Both were always very upfront with their legal knowledge and opinions. I could tell that they were definitely on my side and actually cared about my opinions along each step of the way. I would absolutely recommend either John or Karen to anyone who is looking for someone to represent them. It’s an amazing feeling to have all the stress that my husband and I have had over the past 3 years lifted from our shoulders and can move on with life. Thank you both!

I needed legal advice regarding pursuing concerns with my dentist failing to fulfill his duty to provide a medical standard of care in treating me as a sleep-disordered breathing patient with a mandibular advancement device. Mr. Greaney was knowledgeable in steering me toward the proper avenue to have my concerns investigated and addressed.

Mr. Kirshenbaum helped me once as a public defender. True colors shine through when you're not the one paying your attorney. I couldn't have been more pleased with my experience, and I had hired him again when I needed help. Professional, knowledgeable, and straight-forward. Thank you David!

I hired David to assist me with 8 year old DUIs. He was very up front and set my expectation early. The process once hiring David became very fluid and he did better than anticipated in assisting me. I have since recommended him to several people and their feedback was inline with my own.

Cameron is the person you want representing you. It’s not just because of his expertise and experience, which he has plenty of, it’s because he is straight forward. Every interaction I have with him, he gives me all the possible options in plain language and describes the potential long-term impacts. He has also been very flexible and understanding, and has spent time with me that he didn’t have to just make sure things went right. Cameron cares a lot about the outcome, not just about his business. He practices with compassion, but yet with the right amount of determination and advocacy.

If I could give more stars I would. He truly is a genuinely good lawyer and works with their clients and the courts how every lawyer should. He is not a "money shark" that is out for your money and will not tell you false hopes or information that leads you to paying him more. He guides you and tells you what you need to hear, not what you want to. His prices are very reasonable and every penny was more than earned with the amount of work he did for my case. His attention to detail is phenomenal, he exceeded my expectations. He took my very messy and misdirected case a month before trial and read through all the 300 documents of heavy litagation and was able to present what my previous lawyers didn't and what I tried to do pro se, but was drowned out because I'm a father. He truly is a life saver and has passion for the cases he takes. I plan to recommend him as long as he is taking clients! Don't get thrown off by the casual wear like I did the first time, he's amazing!

I found myself between a rock and a hard place. After talking to Cameron during our first consultation he told me I would have a hard time winning the contempt charge I was facing and he was right. Even though I was facing a losing battle he fought for me with what he had to work, which impressed me a lot. There's no BS with him and he's not going to nickel-and-dime you. I've had attorneys charge me a quarter-hour for a five-minute phone call. He's very easy to work with and his hourly rate is extremely reasonable. You won't be disappointed calling him.

Jenn is an absolutely amazing criminal defense lawyer, She aggressively assisted on the criminal charges against me and, as a result, I avoided potential significant jail time and loss of license. I am a licensed, insured driver, with a job that allows me to support my family. Without Jenn's help I was facing jail, license suspension and the impact that these would have had on my work and family. Jenn did a tremendous job on my case, and I recommend her without reservation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Kent, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
