Skilled, experienced, compassionate and ferocious. That is Karen Scudder. I didn’t think I needed an attorney. Boy! Was I wrong! I was concerned about frivolous law suits, but after having to replace my vehicle and exhausting my personal injury coverage I still wasn’t okay. I prayed about it and started looking at attorney reviews. I was so blessed to find Greaney-Scudder! From the first meeting with Karen Scudder a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders. Not only did she and her team take the burden of having to know the ins and outs of law and insurance, they advocated for me in many other ways…supporting me in finding the right doctors and encouraging me when hope for recovery failed. They freed me from the day to day stress and worry of my claim and pointed me to resources I wasn’t even aware I had. They checked on me and fought for me. If you want a skilled, knowledgeable, professional group of partners fighting to ensure you are treated fairly and that justice was being served Greaney-Scudder is the place to be.

If I could give karen and her team 10 stars I would. I was in a horrible car accident and during that time in my life, I was dealing with so many issues, problems, and overall difficulties because of the accident. There was one shining light and helpful aspect during that time for me which was Karen and her team at the law firm. Karen specifically but also the rest of her team was so helpful and fought for me every step of the way. Not only did they get me paid out to help me financially, but the level of stress that they were able to take off of my plate I could not put a value on. I highly recommend these guys to anybody that is looking for a phenomenal law firm to help you with your issues. Thank you Karen, Lashanda, and the rest of the team that I worked with. Thank you!!

I had the absolute privilege of being Karen's client after a rather harrowing accident and I could not be more grateful. Throughout the entire process, which took two years to complete, she was kind, thoughtful and my fierce advocate. From showing up while I was laid up to celebrating with me upon the closure of my case, she met my energy, was crystal clear with instructions and next steps and did a wonderful job at translating legal jargon. I also had the opportunity to communicate with Alla, her second. Alla was equally kind, helpful and efficient, which speaks volumes of Karen's business on a whole. I hope to never need her services again, however, should anyone I know come upon a need for representation, I am so glad to know her and to have her as a resource. Thank you, Karen, I am so grateful.

I made probably XX amount of calls to firms in hopes of obtaining a powerful attorney to help with my case. Once our initial consult ended, I made one more call and knew Karen was the one. She stands on business! Every touch point I had with Karen or her team was meaningful, supportive, and they played a major role in keeping me going. It wasn't easy, but they made it easier for me. Karen, La Shanda, Alla, and Emma, I am so glad we crossed paths and were able to work together on my case. Thank you for all that you've done for me. I really could not have gone through it all (good and bad) without you. I hope I never have to experience that again but if I ever do *crossing my fingers* I know exactly who to call.

John and Karen are very knowledgeable colleagues and I've interacted with them a few times. As an attorney, I know for a fact that John is one of the most experienced attorneys in the Greater Seattle Area when it comes to dental malpractice injury cases. I would not hesitate to contact John for any such case.

Mr. Kirshenbaum helped me once as a public defender. True colors shine through when you're not the one paying your attorney. I couldn't have been more pleased with my experience, and I had hired him again when I needed help. Professional, knowledgeable, and straight-forward. Thank you David!

I hired David to assist me with 8 year old DUIs. He was very up front and set my expectation early. The process once hiring David became very fluid and he did better than anticipated in assisting me. I have since recommended him to several people and their feedback was inline with my own.

Jenn is an absolutely amazing criminal defense lawyer, She aggressively assisted on the criminal charges against me and, as a result, I avoided potential significant jail time and loss of license. I am a licensed, insured driver, with a job that allows me to support my family. Without Jenn's help I was facing jail, license suspension and the impact that these would have had on my work and family. Jenn did a tremendous job on my case, and I recommend her without reservation.

It was a quick process with her help and much easier than doing it myself. Once I saw the requirements, I realized I needed an expert and Ms. Ehrlich made it simple for me. She was really nice, spoke my native language perfectly, and was very professional. I always knew what was going on when I spoke to her.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Kent, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
