He gave us a great impression at first time when we talked to him, nice and polite. Later however, he’s shown biases, misleading, disrespect, and then pointed out irrelevant issues instead of focusing on the case, very weird. It feels he might have private relationship with opposite party.

We have been working with Peter over the last 7 months as he was assigned our son's case. While our son is an adult, he is very immature. Peter treated him with respect, continually kept us updated, speaking with us at every court hearing. He was professional, thorough and truly caring. I am forever grateful. It is now up to our son to change, I am forever appreciative that our son has an opportunity to have a "second chance"

I'm from California and back in April of this year I was pulled over while in Washington and arrested for DUI. Through a several month process Peter Peaquin was able to get my case reduced to Reckless Driving along with Alcohol classes, etc. Peter went beyond what I expected during this very difficult time in my life, making himself available for my many phone calls and relentless questions. The two of us had countless conversations going through my case, and how we would proceed, and as I mentioned answering all of my questions and concerns that I would write down for our follow up calls. Peter and I built a strong relationship during my case and numerous trips from California for court appearences. One example would be how he'd take time, sometimes hours after court to sit with me over coffee and talk about my case, our obtions and the direction we were going in. Peter was able to get my case reduced and I am more than happy with the outcome. I cannot say enough about how at ease Peter made me feel through the process (as if he had known me for years) and I fully trusted him from our first phone calls, never even having met the man at that point in time. I would recommend Peter to anyone who needed an honest, straight shooting attorney that they could trust would do the very best job possible. ..I know he did for me and I am grateful to have found him. Peter J Peaquin is an amazing lawyer, he is very knowledgeable and genuine. He cares about his clients, and he gets to know you on a personal level. He realizes that people make mistakes, and he isn't one to judge. He's there to defend you and make your life easier. From the first day that I called his office in search for a lawyer, I was immediately calmed by his assistant, Madeline as well as from him. I set up a consultation and that same day I was signing papers for him to take my case. You know when you have a gut feeling that someone is just Right, well thats the feeling I got within 3 minutes of speaking to Mr. Peaquin. He kept me in the loop of everything regarding the case and made me feel at ease with my decisions, answered all my questions and was very informative as to what will be happening and going on through this long case. I feel very fortunate to have found such a great lawyer to represent me. I would recommend him in a heartbeat.

Mr. Peaquin is one of the most amazing, professional, kind, caring individuals that I have ever had the pleasure of being associated with. From my initial meeting all the way through a deployment and until the end of my case Mr. Peaquin took care of everything from A to Z. There are not enough words in the English language that can describe the excellence and professionalism that he puts into his work. I would recommend his services any day any time to anyone. He is the best with out a doubt.

It was a quick process with her help and much easier than doing it myself. Once I saw the requirements, I realized I needed an expert and Ms. Ehrlich made it simple for me. She was really nice, spoke my native language perfectly, and was very professional. I always knew what was going on when I spoke to her.

David listened well, quickly developed a great strategy and kept me from harming my case by creating opportunies for the prosecutors. In court, he remained sharply focused on narrowing the case to the essential issues. He was theatrical only when needed. His brilliance and extensive experience shows in many other ways. After I was found ‘Not Guilty’, I learned that David wins 80% of his cases! No surprise after seeing him in action. Hire David!

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Kent, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
