We had a case that had some unexpected setback. We hired Joshua and he helped us to resolve the issue with his great expertise. He is friendly, responsive and above all, he is an expert in law. I feel really and truly lucky that I found Joshua! The rate he charges is very reasonable. I truly feel that his passion is helping his client instead of making $$$.

Joshua Dabling was great help. We had a situation where the school called CPS on our family. I was really scared, but he helped us through the whole situation guiding us on what to except and being there while meeting with the caseworker. Everything turned out fine and I was so relieved. I keep his number handy and reach out for consultations anytime I'm not sure on legal situations. I recommend Joshua Dabling to everyone I know.

On a daily basis, our company works with dozens of law firms throughout the country and world. We have been working with Dabling since 2010. Dabling's trustworthiness, responsiveness, analytical skills, excellent research skills, speaking skills, and listening skills have been fundamental in successful resolution of many cases for our clients and ours. His judgement, perseverance, perspective and fairness are why we refer many clients to Dabling. Most importantly, Dabling won't use up a client's initial $$$ retainer on Admin/Paralegal fees before working on the scope. This is a tactic many law firms utilize, then request a second $$$ retainer. Also, if there is the slightest conflict of interest, Dabling will let you know. Unlike some law firms, that take your $$$ retainer knowing there is a conflict of interest, and deliberately do nothing on your case, except burn up your $$$ retainer. Dabling keeps up to date on changes in law, his accuracy and precision are obvious and this reflects positively on the outcomes/dispositions/judgments. Dabling has excellent judgment and decision-making skill when it comes to which cases are worth pursuing and which not. Finally, an attorney’s personality is paramount and Dabling is respectful, fair, caring, loyal, and judges, opposing counsel, and juries acknowledge this.

My case lasted for about a year, it was a difficult divorce, but because the other part wasn't cooperating like he should've done. In the main while, Joshua was more then a lawyer to me, he has an incredible value as a person, he orientated me, guided me, thought me, helped me, had patience, and always has the right words to not let me make a mistake. And he always thought about the best for my daughter and I. I would never be able to thank him enough for everything he did for my case. No only he has the knowledge about what he is doing, he is also a great father and husband wich makes it more easy for him to understand his clients feelings and needs. He has a great heart and is a very humble and smart person. No once, but several times, I was so close to make big mistakes and cause a mayor damage to my case, he always had the patience, and perfect tact to explain me why it could've haven a bad decision, he is nothing like other lawyes that's always talking about the money, he has a great tact when is time to talk about it as well. I'd TOTALLY recommend him to whomever is going though a hard time and needs a Elgar representative. Joshua, is a great lawyer and person.

Our agency used Mike, and others, in handling a very complex long term contract negotiation between a couple dozen potential parties. The planning period for the negotiation took more than a decade. The contract itself took a few years. During this time period I found Mike to be highly skilled and adept at identifying troublespots and areas where issues needed to be clarified in the contract. His professionalism and demeanor was valuable in setting a positive atmosphere for the negotiations and ultimately achieving a successful outcome. We were extremely pleased with the quality and timeliness of his legal effort, and the success that he helped us achieve.

I consider Mike Hanis to be "the" best attorney I have ever worked with. She has helped my family so much when we decided to start making our estate plan. While we were meeting with her, she was very helpful and educated on what we needed and what we didn't. She made the difficult decisions easy. I have recommended her to all my friends and family. I just want to say thank you, and I think she is so great. Totally recommend her to anyone in need of help with their estate plan or real estate.

I recently sold my house and the buyer recommended that we have Julie Christenson act as escrow agent. I must admit that I had a bit of trepidation at first about accepting a buyer recommended attorney. However, Julie has done a truly excellent job for me as seller and I believe for the buyer as well. An unexpected complication arose during my home sale; there was an unknown 29 year old lien against my property by a credit union that no longer existed under its original name. Julie helped discover their present identity and the lien was quickly released. I needed a one week 'delayed possession' beyond the closing date to finish clearing my personal property. For this there was a $5000 holdback. After that week I was out and Julie saw to it that the holdback money was returned very expeditiously. Julie is on the ball and one could not ask for a more diligent and, above all, effective professional. Mike

I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for Adam Heyman. I’m a successful heavy equipment operator. This man saved my life after I was falsely arrested in Brooklyn, N.Y. and charged with weapons possession facing a very long prison sentence. This man is very passionate about his work and leaves no stone unturned. Vert witty and passionate about winning. A force to be reckoned with, I look at my kids everyday and think of Adam and how he saved my life.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Kent, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
