Me and my daughter were in a car accident and I suffered with lots of pain and was looking for an attorney for pain and suffering case. I was referred to Jeremy by a friend and I am so glad she did. Jeremy and his partner Connie were amazing to work with. I was amazed with the communication and the effectiveness by the team. The process of the settlement was even more difficult during pandemic but they kept me Informed and the settlement was more than expected. I am thankful to have Jeremy as my attorney and will definitely recommend them to anyone who is looking for an attorney.

Jeremy Bartels was wonderful to work with. I was in a car accident a couple of years ago and needed an attorney to handle the settlement after years of physical therapy for my injuries. Once Jeremy took over my case, things progressed successfully with his diligence and attention to me as a client and to the case itself. Even when things were not progressing due to waiting on responses from medical providers or the at fault driver’s insurance company, Jeremy kept me informed on what was happening. His communication at every step was amazing and one of the reasons I felt I could trust his work on my case. The case was settled, and the outcome was, monetarily, more than I had hoped for. I hope I never need an attorney for a car accident again, but if I do, Jeremy will be the one representing me.

I was rear ended in 2014 by an uninsured driver with an expired license. This driver pushed my car into the car in front of me, causing a three vehicle collision. A police officer showed up on the scene and issued me a ticket, even though she had not witnessed the incident and the damage to the cars clearly showed that I was rear ended. While I was able to get the ticket cleared because of the lack of evidence, both drivers still pursued money from my insurance company based on the bogus police report. My insurance company hired Jeremy to defend them and he did great work. He took the time to interview everyone thoroughly, look at photos of all vehicles and order an accident/vehicle forensics report that examined the vehicle damage to support the fact that I was rear ended and did not cause the accident. We went through arbitration with one of the drivers and it was found that I was at 0% fault (which I knew, of course!) which was a decision that was come to VERY quickly from the arbitrator since Jeremy presented the case so well. On top of all of this, I was two weeks postpartum at the time of the arbitration hearing, so he was sensitive to my health needs during this time (needing more frequent breaks to pump, etc.) He also stayed on top of the statute of limitations and let me know what I could expect when it came to the other driver (who ended up not pursuing anything after learning that the first driver didn't win his case) and prepped me for what would happen if the outcome was contested. I really appreciated his work on the case and am happy that he was able to present my side in a way that I felt confident in. The whole debacle was very frustrating to me, as I KNEW I had done nothing wrong, so to have so much trouble around something like this and having to clear myself of it was not fun. Jeremy helped to make it easier and ultimately get me the outcome that I wanted.

Jeremy Bartels is the lawyer you want by your side when facing a legal challenge. I hired him when I was blindsided by a potential lawsuit in 2018. He was extremely knowledgeable and effective. He put me at ease, believed in my case, and laid out a powerful plan of action to deal with the situation. There are a few key things I think are really worth mentioning about Jeremy. First is that I found him to be compassionate. He listened and believed in my case. Secondly, he clearly really wants to win (and hates to lose). I wouldn’t want to be the lawyer for the other side against Jeremy. With his knowledge of the law and his tactical way of thinking, he made things tough on the other side in all the right ways (ways that helped me!). That is what you want in a legal situation of any kind. You want someone that fights for you and does whatever they can (within the law) to put you in the best possible position. I would recommend Jeremy to anyone and will continue to use him as my lawyer.

By far the best attorney I have had the pleasure of working with. I had an unemployment matter with a very large corporation. He was very helpful and informative. He answered my question about the case well after normal closing time and is very thorough. He will tell you honestly how it will or could possibly go and he is very professional and seems to be well known by judges. Definitely recommend

Darcia's calm, no-nonsense approach made the challenging process less traumatic and collaborative. She was accessible to answers after our meetings and was very direct, clear and helpful. Her compassionate nature, her easy speaking style, her core understanding of the law and the challenges in conflict resolution made the experience far less anxiety-ridden, faster and more positive than my or my ex could have predicted.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Kirkland, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
