I heard Meredith about 10 months ago to help handle a very complicated a state issue for me you for me just when the critical time period started few histories from the case for no reason that I was given that I was given and didn't provide me with the details of what she had uncovered It left me in a very dangerous and precarious situation that was not appreciated because I didn't even receive a referral to another attorney and was not given and a reason For her withdrawal from the situation in case In assistance she did nothing but make my situation worse than it already was

Meredith was the best thing that happened to me at one of the worst times in my life. My father passed away suddenly and it left me in a very difficult situation regarding his estate. It got ugly and complicated very quickly. We hire attorney's to help us legally, but just the very fact that you need an attorney for any reason, means you are going through a lot of stress in your life. Meredith is amazing. She doesn't let things fall through the cracks and she gets the job done. She is smart and very good at what she does. Which is why we hire attorney's right? But she is a very genuine person who cares about her clients on top of being excellent at her job. And that is what makes her great at her job. You never feel like a number and she will support you through the process every step of the way. I never want to hire an attorney again, but if I did, she would be my first choice.

I came to Meredith after meeting with 12 other attorneys and battling with the insurance company from a car accident in 2015 where I was injured. She not only removed the stress off my shoulders, but she was authentic. She explained every step of the process and was very level headed about the entire situation. She was able to calm the insurance adjuster, myself and all of my practitioners! She is the only reason I have my life back. I could never thank her enough. I truly felt like someone genuinely cared!

I ran a law firm for over 5 years. I have worked with many different lawyers. I wanted someone that was going to be honest, hard working, forthright with my case, and not lie to me. Not, only did Mrs. Long treat me and my case with respect. She is a hard working Lawyer. I was hit Feb 2, 2014, the day that Seattle Seahawks were going to the Super bowl. I was in Kelso, on Allen Street. Smack, hit head on. It was not my fault. I was hurt in the accident. I did not know the extent of injurie at the time. I had to go to the Hospital, MRI's, ER, I could not lift my left arm. For days after the head on, the insurance company would call me. All hours of the day and night. It got to the point I would turn off my phone. I would be harassed, many times a day from the person that hit me head on, insurance company. I had at one time, over 10 calls in one day. I was starting to get physically sick, loosing sleep, stressing, not being able to eat, from all of the phone calls from the insurance company. I was being harassed, by the medical facility to pay the bills. I was even told that if I did not pay the bills they would take me to court. I found Mrs. Long, from the yellow pages. From the day I called her, I felt at ease and knew that my case would be taken care of. She did her job. She took every phone call from the insurance. She fought for me. I have permeant damage on my left side. I am left handed. She fought for me 100% and kept an upbeat sportive attitude. When I was at my lowest, being hurt, not being able to hunt, fish, ride my quad, she was able to talk with me, listen to my tears not only over the phone, but in email and face to face. I had more injuries than we thought, physical therapist 5 days a week for over a year. Finally, one day when my armed swelled, and I was angry due to my pain, so they thought, my doctor at the U OF W medical Sports Medical department, decided to open my shoulder and take a look, they found that I was bleeding internally. I had a massive surgery and Mrs. Long made sure that all my bills were taken care of. I did not have to worry about anything, but go to physical therapy and get better. Mrs. Long was there not only there for my case, she cares about my physical process of healing as well as my mental state as well. Being told that I may never be able to fulfill my dream of finishing guide school and doing what I love. To teach life skills of hunting and fishing. This news crushed my world, mentally, physically and emotionally. Mrs. Long would talk about how I would get better soon, she said, " you will get better!" January 17, 2017. My case was finally settled. Mrs. Long, cut my pain and suffering check. I could not believe, what she did for me. She not only stood beside me, with my up's and low's, however, she fought for me. She made sure that my case was important, she was not there just for the money for herself. She made sure that I was okay, she worried about my physical and mental status throughout my case. I would have never made this type of recovery mentally or physically if it was not for the hard work of my Lawyer. I would have never made it, without her phone calls, or emails, or encouragement. I know that when I was told that I will have a permeant blind spot in my left eye that may never heal. I was scared, I called my Lawyer. She was there to take my phone call. She listen to my cry and scream and I am so thankful that she was there. She never, let me down. Even when I was at my low, she was sick, she still made sure I was okay. I am blessed, that I had an amazing Lawyer. She did 100% over and beyond what other Lawyers do. Mrs. Long did not think in dollar bills, she thinks with Humanity and passion. I hope I never have to use her again, but if I do, I know she will be there for me. Thank you, for the job well done. KB

My case first began with Meredith's father. Meredith took it over in March of 2015 and worked tirelessly on my case. She not only was professional, she was very well informed on all laws pertaining to my case. She treated me not just like a customer, but she treated me like she genuinely cared about me. She was persistent throughout a long drawn out case and I will forever be grateful to her. I would highly recommend her for any of your legal needs!

Kurt spent over an hour explaining the litigation process, pros & cons of going through litigation, and other alternatives/suggestions concerning the legal issues I am dealing with right now. This consult provided me with the information needed to make a decision to litigate or not. I left his office feeling like I FINALLY understood how the process works and was able to make a decision based on his knowledge and expertise.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Longview, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
