I'm a Canadian who was traveling in the USA. I was stopped by a trooper on the HWY for apparently speeding. The Trooper, completely degraded me, accused me of dealing illegal drugs, and questioned my ability to afford the vehicle I was driving. Yes again, I was stopped for speeding? After being verbally interogated for 30 mins he arrested me and printed out 3 citations; Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangerment and an infraction. At this Point I was nervous and felt quite intimidated. When I got home I searched for lawyers and talked to many on the phone who couldnt give me any conclusion except pleading guiltly to 1 criminal charge and paying the infraction. I then got intouch with Henry. He spend the better part of 1 hour on the phone with me and took on the case with confidence. After the first hearing, Henry was able to negotiate a dismissal of both criminal charges and I had to pay a $550 infraction. I was really quite pleased with his work and how efficient he was. I would refer Henry to anyone who needs the help of a lawyer who is professional, honest and most importantly knows how to get the job done!

I had a very bad spring back in 2012. I rolled my wife's car during a bit of nasty weather. I was confronted by some, not so nice police officers, and ended up getting in a scuffle. Things went quickly from bad to worse and I was quickly arrested. I discovered Henry's services through the bail business I utilized to get me sprung from jail. It was a fortuitous discovery! While I didn't walk away from the charges or found innocent, I did get a plea bargain from the DA, thanks very much to Henry! He stated more than once that he would go to bat for me and fight the charges, which was very much appreciated. At the same time he informed me of the risks. I really didn't want a felony charge to stick, I had been a professional businessman prior to this incident and wanted to continue to be so. A felony would've destroyed my future! I took the plea bargain, did my time (21 days or so) and moved on. Henry's help was money spent well! He is a genuine person that actually cares about his clients! If you are looking for someone to represent you that has amazing credentials and the care and concern that you deserve as a human being, then Henry is your guy! Trust me! He is your guy!!!!

I was introduced Henry because I had no idea whom to hire when I was in charged for DUI, very scared and nervous. Henry listened to me very carefully and gave me the power that we could definitely solve the problem. He is very ambitious, not overwhelming, and organizing; most of all he really knows what he is doing. Not only as a client and the lawyer, he loved to listen to me whatever that is, even my personal stories and feeling so he could put himself in my shoes.. He was also very patient when I had so many questions even when I called his personal cell phone, and he got back to me right away with happy voice when he missed my calls. The one thing that I really appreciate him is that he did not have to go to court with me after the case was actually closed, he showed up and put me on the list earlier so I didnt have to wait for an hour.. Even thought the case was over, he still was willing to take care of the case with no extra pay. I thought it was very nice of him that he just doesn't let me alone dealing with the case afterward.. Not only he has such a great personality, he is also very responsible and knowledgeable. Of course I was not the only client of him, but Henry always remember what is going on with my case, even all the details, he would love to answer all my questions. Whoever looking for a knowledgeable but very warm-hearted lawyer, he is the one you should go for. I think the good communication between the lawyer and the client is very important as well as the ability lawyer can win the case. I am very satisfied working with him, and he is a great person, a lawyer. Truly thank you Henry.

I was referred to Henry by another lawyer that guaranteed I would be in good hands & that he could handle everything I had going on between my issues in three different courts. I was able to meet for a consultation with Henry on a Saturday, which was a must for me as I work normal business hours just like everyone else. It really put me at ease when at the end of the consultation Henry had already came up with some of the best options to meet my situations. It was a long road in and out of court & every question I had was promptly answered by email, a phone call, or text message. Each day I had court Henry would call to not only make sure that I remembered but to go over our plan and the possible actions the Judge or Prosecutor might take. This kept me thinking positive throughout the whole process because I wasn't just another client in another court awaiting another decision & not knowing what may or may not lie ahead. I completely recommend Henry 100% for his hard work, flexible schedule, and knowledge in so many areas of the law.

Mark's a great guy. It was very comforting to know that he was on top of everything. Like when the court lost track of certain paperwork, and they wanted me to go back for resentencing, after I had completed my 15 day EHM. All I had to do was text mark, and it was all fixed. I never felt that I didn't understand what was going on. If there was any bad news, mark knew how to break it down, without putting more stress on the situation. You want someone like mark on your side. So hopefully he's your first choice, and the last DUI lawyer you'll ever need.

I was really pleased with the time I spent with Mr. Garka. He took the time to make sure I understood the whole DUI process and was very understanding, straight forward and kind. I was Referred to him through a lifelong friend, who is also an attorney. With his experience, he was able to win my DOL hearing and use this evidence to have my case completely dismissed.

Mark was a great attorney, made me feel comfortable and explained in detail every step. He asked me to pro-actively complete a list of of things the court would require so when sentencing came I looked good to the Judge. He answered every communication promptly and never left me wondering what was happening. Mark took great care of me and will for you too.

I have been a client of Mr. Froland's for over 25 years and he has handled many different cases for me, most involving real estate, but also estates and probate and general legal issues. He has consistently provided good advice. I have found him to be exceptionally ethical, treating both me and my adversaries fairly and looking for a positive outcome for each party. I feel he represents me well, always looking out for my best interest, and I have been pleased with his efforts and the outcomes over the years.

Kelli has just helped my spouse and I through one of the most difficult times in our lives. We had a tax issue from 2003 that we were getting nowhere with when trying to deal with the IRS on our own. With Kelli's help, we are happy to say that this issue is now behind us. We recommend Kelli and her office wholeheartedly. Thanks Kelli. It always felt like you were treating us not only as clients, but as friends.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Mill Creek, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
