I am incredibly grateful for the exceptional service provided by my attorney Kathryn Abele. From the very beginning, she showed unparalleled compassion and dedication to my family's case. Her commitment to our cause was evident as she tirelessly fought for us, leaving no stone unturned. What truly set her apart was her meticulous research. She went above and beyond, even discovering a relevant law from the late 1800s that was pivotal to our case. Watching Kathryn in the courtroom is truly incredible. Her presence is commanding, and she controls the courtroom with a combination of passion and profound knowledge of the law. Her expertise and confidence shine through in every argument she makes, leaving a lasting impression on everyone present. Her dedication to my case was evident, and her ability to navigate the complexities of the legal system was nothing short of impressive. I felt reassured knowing she was representing my family, and her unwavering commitment gave us the strength to persevere. I cannot thank her enough for her hard work and dedication. If you are looking for an attorney who is not only highly skilled but also passionately committed to justice, I wholeheartedly recommend her.

I'm in the middle of a custody battle in family law against my child's mother. She has done nothing but make up lies and stories about me and my fiance. Kathryn has done nothing short of fighting hard to ensure I keep my child in my care while we continue the momentum forward in gaining full custody. Kathryn is no slouch in the courtroom and is very passionate about what she does. I tried to go it alone through ex parte but was failing. Kathryn coached me while she was in the courtroom for another case and helped me get through that mess of a day. Since that day I've had Kathryn as my attorney and it's paying off big time.

I came in for a consultation to try to get the maximum amount of time with my daughter and she gave me so many tips to help my case and let me know the best course of action for me to take. Unfortunately money is tight and I am unable to afford her but if I could I would hire her in a heart beat.

I drove to her office living in mill creek myself seeking some guidance I needed for a beyond normal child custody situation in snohomish county. Hired her for an hour to get all my papers into pdf format and also organized. I had like 300 pages of crap and she got all the important stuff together super fast. One pile of papers for court and one pile to turn into pdf format so I can serve someone across the country. Without her I'd be lost in the ocean. I got great news at my court date a few weeks later regarding my child and I couldn't have been happier with her service.

Danielle is nothing short of spectacular. She represented me in my divorce case for a 22 year marriage. She is a straight shooter, incredibly professional, and organized, compassionate and if I ever need legal representation in the future, I would not hesitate to hire her again. If you were going through a divorce, or just want a consultation about your options, do not hesitate. Hire her before your spouse does.

Danielle came highly recommended for a acrimonious custody case I was about to undergo. She fought for me and I knew she had my children and my best interest in mind. Danielle took the time to listen to me, walked me through the process and was honest with me about my strengths and weaknesses in the case. Through the months Danielle was communicative, passionate and felt she always had my back. In the courtroom, Ms. Pratt was sharp, quick-witted, professional and acquainted. Danielle is an absolute brilliant and dedicated attorney with the experience you need to win!

Kelli has just helped my spouse and I through one of the most difficult times in our lives. We had a tax issue from 2003 that we were getting nowhere with when trying to deal with the IRS on our own. With Kelli's help, we are happy to say that this issue is now behind us. We recommend Kelli and her office wholeheartedly. Thanks Kelli. It always felt like you were treating us not only as clients, but as friends.

I needed help with a power of attorney that would be effective overseas. Brenda did a fantastic job. She checked the embassy requirements, got in touch with embassy, and promptly and accurately drafted the poa. All that at a very reasonable budget.

I live in a small mobile home park in the unincorporated area of Snohomish county so when the big maple tree directly in back of my home became unsafe and one large part of it fell on my roof and back wall last winter, I could not call any city inspector/agency for assistance. The park owner called it an act of God and took no responsibility for it; luckily I had good insurance and repairs were done in a timely manner. The problem was not over though; there were additional branches and trunks which were leaning and clearly unsafe and my landlord would only remove one which did not overhang my home at all, just helped out my neighbors. I attempted to speak with hiim about the issue several times thru the winter and spring but his attitude was not cooperative and he finally refused to discuss it at all. I waited for a full year for him to do something-anything and when the situation became impossible to live with, I hired Brenda. I had previously contacted the state AG's office to see if they could assist me but they informed me it did not fall under their purview. Brenda looked up the applicable case law, found something and mailed a polite but firm letter to my landlord quoting the law and giving him a time frame for abiding by the letter of that law. Within 10 days, the tree was down and I have peace of mind again. Her rates were reasonable and she kept in touch with me during the process as to what she was doing and making sure I was on board with it. I would definitely hire her again if the need arises and recommend her highly.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Mill Creek, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
