I called David Hatch's Office with a recommendation, he took 45 minutes to review the details of my case and struck me as incredibly knowledgeable and personable. Maybe it's because he's been or is a judge as well as a attorney for 20+ years. My case was unique in many ways and he found ways to work with those circumstances. I was facing a felony in a County that was known for throwing the book at you, but with a little time and patience my case was dismissed. I couldn't be more Thankful, this man literally saved my future. I recommend David Hatch 100%!

I retained David Hatch as my attorney when I was charged with Hit and Run Unattended and a DUI. During the legal process David was on top of everything. All discovery was done and each document and the overall plan was explained to me in detail. Communication was great and Susan his paralegal was extremely helpful and supportive. When the final court date arrived David was prepared with a settlement offer he had negotiated with the District Attorney. Without going to trial David was able to have the Hit and run Unattended dismissed, and the DUI reduced to Reckless Driving with no jail time. I highly recommend David Hatch. He is honest, trustworthy, caring, respected by his peers and works totally for his client.

I came to Mr. Hatch after I was charged with a Gross Misdemeanor that ultimately would have ended my career and possibly prevented me from ever working in my field again. Due to the unique circumstances of my case, I needed the best representation and a source who I considered to be very reliable told me that Mr. Hatch was the best around. Upon the conclusion of my first meeting with Mr. Hatch I felt an immediate sense of relief due to his confidence and experience in this area of law. He was very straightforward and honest with me regarding the possible outcomes of my case and never led me on or gave me false hope. Over approximately 5-6 months, Mr. Hatch diligently worked on my case and despite him never saying so, I always felt that he was going to pull through for me. While in the beginning the prosecutor wasn’t offering any reasonable resolution to my case, by the end Mr. Hatch had came to me with what I thought was a very reasonable resolution that would have resulted in no criminal conviction. However, my employer wasn’t satisfied with this type of resolution and I wasn’t able to accept it. Mr. Hatch continued to fight for me and came back to me shortly with a resolution that satisfied my employer. Not only did I want to come out of this with no criminal record, I also wanted to keep my job. In the end, Mr. Hatch was able to achieve both of these things for me and I couldn’t be more grateful for his expertise and competence in his profession. He prevented what could have been a serious case of injustice and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to anyone.

I found David Hatch on an internet search and happened to like what he had to say about his defense strategy and experience (of course). I had a lawyer at the time from an extremely highly regarded law firm in Seattle, but was increasingly dissatisfied with the lack of knowledge of my case after approximately 5 months and I was still awaiting my day in court. I called Mr. Hatch’s office and explained my situation and what I was looking for. He promptly called me back. After only one call and speaking with his assistant once, when I called back to arrange my first appointment, his assistant still remembered my name and my case. This was rather refreshing and only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the competent service I received. If you have ever been charged with something you haven’t done, it can change your world in the worst way (or at least feel like it). My case went to trial and while I would have loved to see my opponents ripped to pieces that day, he was extremely balanced in my defense which I still believe is a huge factor in the outcome of my case. He was aggressive at the times when he needed to be and acted with great finesse when that was needed. He is excellent in reading the prosecution and each witness and how to use that to your advantage in the courtroom. While inevitably not all cases are won, if you have David Hatch on your side, you can be assured and confident that no one else could have done any better for you. He always keeps your best interest in mind and more importantly takes the time to go through each and every step with you. He takes the time to find out what actually happened and to understand you and the situation. By the end of my trial, I was more than satisfied that I had received my day in court and there was nothing more that could have been done on my behalf. I had only one regret after this awful process was done; it was that Mr. Hatch had not been my attorney from the beginning. Instead of my case taking 9 months, I am sure it would have been done in a 1/3 of that time, had I had him representing me from the beginning. JP

I recently hired Mr. Olson to represent me in my DUI case. He was able to get the charges drastically reduced with minimal stipulations required by the court. He was very easy to get a hold of, friendly, hard working, and knew the prosecutor well, which helped make negotiating simpler. I am thankful that I chose to hire Mr. Olson.

I went to Stephen Olson after an auto accident and the other sides insurance company was not treating me fairly. Mr. Olson immediately got to work on my case, and it was clear from the beginning that he was a kind and personable attorney. It was also clear from the settlement that was reached he is incredibly effective and determined to advocate for his clients. I would recommend Stephen Olson to any person who needs assistance, as he is the only attorney I will use in the future!

I highly recommend Steve. He fought hard to make sure that I was treated fairly and gave me the opportunity to get my infraction reduced. He is very knowledgable and gives a very good cross-examination. Sometimes it is tough in traffic court to make people believe your side of the story when an officer is telling a different story but he knew how to ask the right questions and was able to get the truth out.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Montesano, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
