Pros
1
Experienced and skilled criminal defense attorney
“If misfortune finds you and you're in need of an attorney I highly recommend Mr Woodrow.”
2
Respected and knowledgeable in the local legal system
“He is the best in Thurston County, everyone knows Woodrow is the best!”
3
Achieves favorable outcomes for clients, including reduced charges and dismissals
“He got my case dismissed, would recommend to anyone, he gives you a sense of assurance after have one conversation with him.”
4
Passionate and dedicated to defending his clients
“Seriously choosing Woodrow was the easiest and best decision I've ever mad. I'm not going to go into too much detail but I was looking at 10 years in prison but Woodrow knew what he was doing and reduced my charges from a class A to class c with time served.”
5
Able to navigate the legal system effectively
“With Richard representing me, I received the best possible outcome. My charges were greatly reduced, no jail time, and no probation.”
Cons
1
Inconsistent communication and availability
“I handed $3500.00 of my own hard earned money to this hustler and hustled I was. There is no moral compass within Mr. Woodrow. In less than 90 days, he would be a complete no-show to not one, but TWO court hearings as well as refuse me my own case file upon my firing him.”
2
Potential for unexpected fees or changes in strategy
“On top of the 30,000$ I gave Richard up front, he told me I needed to do an evaluation which was another $1500. He also stressed I go get a polygraph test as it would be the cherry on top to having my case dismissed. I paid 350$ to have it don't and passed with flying colors then all of a sudden it wasnt all that important like I was lead to believe.”

The first thing to consider is Mr Woodrow is not your friend, he’s your attorney. If retained, he’s the only thing you have between freedom and prosecution. Don’t be surprised by his tactics. He’s been doing this a very long time and has his routine, trust it. Do exactly as he says and nothing more. If you’re straight with him he’ll fight for you. He understands and empathizes with the human condition. He’s made several accommodations for me that he didn’t have to and I’m still working. I consulted other local area attorneys and they all said Mr Woodrow is one of the best trial attorneys you can get, one tried to go into business with him. For all who are reading this I’ve done all the research and made all the calls for you; it all circles back to Mr Woodrow. My fate is still undetermined with the courts. I trust Me Woodrow to get the best possible outcome for me. You should too. If misfortune finds you and you’re in need of an attorney I highly recommend Mr Woodrow.

From the beginning all he did was talk about how he wasn’t even worried about my case because it was a slam dunk. With an overwhelming amount of evidence that proved the false allegations against me were not true and were only reported after I stated I wanted a divorce and was beginning the process. On top of the 30,000$ I gave Richard up front, he told me I needed to do an evaluation which was another $1500. He also stressed I go get a polygraph test as it would be the cherry on top to having my case dismissed. I paid 350$ to have it don’t and passed with flying colors then all of a sudden it wasnt all that important like I was lead to believe. So now I’m thousands of dollars in the hole over this bs and he calls me with an offer of 2 charges less serious which would be fantastic if I were actually guilty of the original charges. I’m very very disappointed and feel scammed. I’ve never been in trouble before. The last 30 years I’ve worked a very respectable position at my job. Our justice system makes me sick to my stomach. It all comes down to money and money only. I would recommend Richard Woodrow unless for 1 you’re guilty and just want a better deal or 2 your charges are counties away and it’s nots buddies with the prosecutor.

Being falsely accused of a crime and facing criminal charges is a traumatic experience and legal services are very expensive, so you want the very best lawyer to represent you at the start of your case. Richard Woodrow was the third attorney I hired to represent me. Had I known about him at the beginning, I would have retained him first, saving myself stress, time and money. At our first meeting Richard explained what I could expect to happen and how he planned to proceed. He answered all my questions so that I had a clearer understanding going forward. All through the process I could see that Richard knew how to work in the system, was experienced dealing with the Prosecutors and was respected in the Court. With Richard representing me, I received the best possible outcome. My charges were greatly reduced, no jail time, and no probation. If you want an experienced Criminal defense Attorney in your corner I would highly recommend Richard Woodrow.

I hired Mr. Woodrow on a class A felony in Mason County. He investigated and interviewed the alleged victim. He filed a motion to suppress evidence. After negotiating with the prosecutor he was able to get the charge reduced to a gross misd. with no jail time. I have already recommended him to a friend. I wrote this because of some of these other sketchy reviews. I trust this man.

I was very pleased with Andrew Yi as my attorney. I believe I was given the best professional advice and assistance with my court case with him as my attorney. Because of his diligence I had a excellent outcome in my court case. I highly recommend him. Would most definitely have him again. That only being the case I find myself needing an attorney again. God Willing I don't...

When I first contacted Andrew Yi, I had planned on meeting with several lawyers so I could shop around and really get one I was comfortable with, since my previous encounters had been pretty terrible. I've even had a lawyer call me AFTER the case was settled, only to bill me over $100 for a follow up phone call that lasted five minutes. Needless to say, I was extremely nervous about going through all that again. But after meeting with Andrew, I knew I didn't need to talk to anyone else. Even though he told me exactly what to expect, he was still very reassuring and friendly. I never felt like I was just a client to him. He really seemed to care about me and my case from the very beginning. Not only that, but he showed incredible aptitude in the court room, and everything went so much smoother than I had imagined. He speaks the language of the prosecutors, and seemed to have no trouble getting what he wanted. I certainly hope I will not need a lawyer again any time soon, but in the unlikely event that I do, I will be contacting Andrew Yi immediately.

From start to finish Mr. Yi was extremely helpful. I feel I am more knowledgeable about the law now just from the short time I spent with Mr. Yi about my case. I would recommend to anyone to hire Mr. Yi especially for DUI help!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Olympia, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
