Paul Premack has so many clients but we feel like the only ones. We have let our estate planning go undone for too long because we thought working with an attorney would be hard. Our friends told us such stories. But we found Paul Premack! He made every step of our process go so smoothly. Compared to our friends stories, we feel he undercharged for the fine service we received on the phone, in the office, and the understandable estate planning legal documents we received.

During the early 1990’s my father-in-law called a family meeting to discuss which of his four children would serve as his executor and exercise his power of attorney. My wife was selected by all to have this duty. My father-in-law read the San Antonio Express-News cover to cover on a daily basis and really appreciated Mr. Premack’s thoughtful articles. He asked my wife to set up an appointment to draw up a Will and such other documents that might be needed. My wife and I accompanied her father to his appointment in with Mr. Premack to facilitate the interview, as her father was profoundly deaf. We were so pleased with Mr. Premack’s manner and the quality of his efforts, that Ramona and I decided it was time to put our own affairs in order. Mr. Premack drew up our Wills, Durable Power of Attorney and Medical Power of Attorney in March of 2012. While in his offices, I purchased my first copy of The Senior Texan Legal Guide. Since that meeting I have subscribed to Mr. Premack’s articles for the San Antonio Express-News by email and downloaded his seventh edition of The Senior Texan Legal Guide Texas Elder Law. Later I found it necessary to move my parents from Florida to San Antonio due to their failing health. As soon as practical, we made appointments for my folks to bring their Wills and Estate documents to Mr. Premack for evaluation and translation into documents that would meet Texas Law and secure their Estate wishes. Mr. Premack developed a Restatement of their Living Trust as well as Wills and Durable Power of Attorney. In June 2017 we accompanied Ramona’s sister to have her Will, Directive to Physicians, Medical Power of Attorney and Declaration of Guardianship drawn up. During these many years, Mr. Premack and his lovely wife Ruthie have patiently and courtesy answered all of our many questions. Robert & Ramona

I came to mr. Premack with the knowledge just that I needed more than a straight will. He walked me through living trust, living will, medical Powers of attorney, durable power of attorney, the will itself and other documents that would be necessary towards the end of my life and for my children. He even helped with no hesitation the addition of a special bequest just in case I wasn't able to make it to a certain period in my children's life. With his help I know that my family will be well cared for if something happens.

Mr. Premack has been fantastic to work with during a stressful time for my family. He is clearly the best attorney I have ever worked with; very patient, professional, and helped us in record time to replace parental wills, POAs, etc. I highly recommend him if you need assistance or just have questions on elder law or estate planning. I will return to him as the “go-to” attorney in this field, HIs office manager is also extremely professional and kind. Thank you for all your help, my family is most grateful.

I was very pleased with Andrew Yi as my attorney. I believe I was given the best professional advice and assistance with my court case with him as my attorney. Because of his diligence I had a excellent outcome in my court case. I highly recommend him. Would most definitely have him again. That only being the case I find myself needing an attorney again. God Willing I don't...

When I first contacted Andrew Yi, I had planned on meeting with several lawyers so I could shop around and really get one I was comfortable with, since my previous encounters had been pretty terrible. I've even had a lawyer call me AFTER the case was settled, only to bill me over $100 for a follow up phone call that lasted five minutes. Needless to say, I was extremely nervous about going through all that again. But after meeting with Andrew, I knew I didn't need to talk to anyone else. Even though he told me exactly what to expect, he was still very reassuring and friendly. I never felt like I was just a client to him. He really seemed to care about me and my case from the very beginning. Not only that, but he showed incredible aptitude in the court room, and everything went so much smoother than I had imagined. He speaks the language of the prosecutors, and seemed to have no trouble getting what he wanted. I certainly hope I will not need a lawyer again any time soon, but in the unlikely event that I do, I will be contacting Andrew Yi immediately.

From start to finish Mr. Yi was extremely helpful. I feel I am more knowledgeable about the law now just from the short time I spent with Mr. Yi about my case. I would recommend to anyone to hire Mr. Yi especially for DUI help!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Olympia, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
