David Hill and his associates were professional and timely in all interactions. When I sent emails with questions, the responses were returned timely.

Mr. Hill was extremely professional and expeditious in handling my Chapter 7 bankruptcy case. Additionally, he was able to get a huge settlement from the IRS for me. Last...all of this was done for me at a very affordable cost. No hesitation in recommending David Hill to any and all.

The only reason i am not giving his office 5 stars is because the receptionist acts like you are inconveniencing her and the legal assistant loses paperwork. I did not enjoy interacting with either of them. The original receptionist was so much nicer. David was fantastic and worth every penny. He was very knowledgeable and put my fears at ease. I would recommend him to anyone facing bankruptcy.

My wife and I had quite a tough start to 2017. A family tragedy, lower-income job, and prior mismanagement of finances brought about the perfect storm. We'd been struggling to get our finances together for some time prior to 2017 and the aforementioned circumstances became the tipping point. We needed to consult a bankruptcy lawyer. A co-worker recommended David C. Hill and after meeting during the initial consultation, I knew that we were in good hands. His attention to detail, patience, and years of experience are exactly what you need when faced with such a difficult time in life. His ability to help you remain calm during what is otherwise one of the more stress-inducing moments in life is a godsend. He responded to emails, kept us up to speed on every step of the process, and made it all as painless as possible. His confidence helps a ton, as he tells it how it is and you are able to rest assured that things will go as planned. As long as you are completely forthright and do what is asked of you when it is asked of you, you'll be fine. Mr. Hill, Brandi, Natausha, and the entire staff were all extremely helpful during our Chapter 7 case. We recently received our discharge and are able to move forward. We learned about ourselves during this process, and the Law Offices of David C. Hill played an instrumental part in it all. Thank you for being so willing to help and put up with me. I know that I asked a LOT of questions. I am a stickler for details and you allowed me to be myself, while still letting me know when I needed to relax and trust the process. I will recommend any and everyone to you, though my hope is that my friends and family do not get themselves into situations where BK is necessary. If you need a bankruptcy attorney in the Kitsap County area, you would be well advised to at least contact David C. Hill and have a conversation with him. One conversation is all that it took for me, and I am confident that you'll experience the same amazing treatment that my family and I did.

I was nervous about the bankruptcy process, but Mr. Hill was able to put my mind at ease. His decades of experience was very comforting. If you are faced with the dreaded decision of bankruptcy, you owe it to yourself to sit on the other side of Mr. Hill's desk. At the point where you realize you have no other option, the last thing you want to hear is that you need $1,600 before you can go any further. Thankfully, Mr. Hill takes payments (it saved my bacon). One thing that really stood out was how the "Hill team" was always available, emails where answered that day, or first thing in the morning. If you are reading this contemplating bankruptcy, take it from a guy who has gone through the process, It will be over before you know it. Thank you Mr. Hill for your service.

Kim went above and beyond for me in a Criminal Court System that seems to never have a Victory for the Defence. I was very lucky to be blessed with such an amazing attorney. She was there for me every step of the way and when I looked her up so I could refer her to a close friend I could not believe that not a single person has written her a review. Kim is an exceptional attorney with extensive experience in Superior Court System. I was lucky and blessed to have her represent me and I needed to write her a review to let her know just how much I appreciated her time and effort to my individual case.

I'm extremely pleased with the effort Mr. Tyner has put into my case. It's obvious he genuinely cares about his clients. That's pretty rare for a court appointed attorney. I have been convinced he is working with and for me me and that he isn't simply going through the motions, trying to get me to sign their first offer. He inquired about the circumstances surrounding my cases, listened, and made a proactive plan of action. I'd hire him privately. He is an excellent attorney and whoever gets him as their court appointed attorney is extremely fortunate.

Mr. Holyoak was the only attorney who personally called me the day of my reaching out concerning a time-sensitive consultation. He scheduled an appointment first thing the next day, where he was helpful and efficient helping me understand my position. He was judicious with my time and money.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Port Orchard, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
