I found Lorraine to be knowledgeable and initially helpful though we never made it past the consultation despite her telling me I could work with her (and even offered a “locals” discount). When I returned for a second meeting, after gathering the information for my divorce as she directed, she was “not accepting new clients”. I emailed and called and the response was unprofessionally long in coming, and I was met with a flat out “no” despite my best efforts to just get a phone consult of 1/2 hour to answer questions. I thought I had legal counsel. Divorce is hard enough. Now I have to go and invest time and money to start again with someone else. I feel dropped.

I hired Lorraine Rimson to represent me through a very painful divorce. She did not take time to get to know the details. Further , she never pursued delving into my spouse's dangerous behavior. If you are looking for the attorney to "fight" for you, Lorraine Rimson is NOT your attorney. She was unprepared with my case and very ineffective at defending me against opposing counsel's accusations. I became very fearful of what would happen if my case actually proceeded to trial. Her style made a divorce process harder, longer and more expensive that it needed to be. Lorraine Rimson is not the attorney you want on your side. Very dishonest and unprofessional. Rorraine Rimson kept telling me "she was working on my case", but nothing has been done, I was charged thousands dollars. Her confrontational approach to family law has left permanent and unnecessary scars on my family.

Lorraine consulted with me on a matter with an unruly neighbor. All of my efforts to communicate with this person failed spectacularly. But one phone call from Lorraine was all it took for me to feel like I was getting my needs met and for my neighbor to feel like her needs were met too. Lorraine has a rare gift for compassion, listening, and mediation. I have also recommended her to numerous friends who have been just impressed with her professionalism. She is amazing. I am happy to enthusiastically recommend her to anyone going through divorce, relationship issues, or drama with a kooky neighbor.

I have used Lorraine Rimson on several domestic/family law issues and I have found her to be responsive and aggressive on all matters. I have been totally satisfied with my results. Whenever anyone asks me for a good family law attorney in the Seattle area, I always refer them to Lorraine Rimson.

Joe wins cases... He is a shark in the courtroom. He wins because he has three gifts that other attorneys wish they had; CONFIDENCE, Joe is willing to go to trial and fight for his clients. He doesn't back down in trial, or in settlements, because Joe has a long history of winning really tough cases. INTELLIGENCE, Joe is on top of the every change and technicality in the Law, he wins many cases before they even go to trial because he is willing to put in the hard work and do the pre trial motions and hearings that many attorneys are unwilling to do. CHARISMA, Joe is the cool kid in the court room. He draws everyone in when he speaks. The jury wants be on Joe's team.. and that means they are on your team. Joe won my case, he saved me from having to do 10 years in prison for a crime I wasn't guilty of. I couldn't have had a better attorney fighting for me.

He handled a speeding ticket in Jefferson County for my daughter and it was dismissed with her presence required in court. She did not have to miss a day at college and it was money well spent!

Schodowski Law has represented me in several traffic infractions, including: traffic cameras, improper equipment (snow tires), (w)reckless driving, and speeding and Joe was able to have all of them reduced if not dismissed.

Rafael Urquia recently represented me in a lawsuit pertaining to injuries sustained from an incident with a dog. He gave me his full attention when I recounted the events of that day, and was sensitive and compassionate regarding the serious injuries I endured. Rafael was extremely generous with his time over the course of 21 months, and was successful in a mediation settlement. He is the best lawyer I have ever dealt with, and I would recommend him enthusiastically.

I was in a no-fault accident and the folks at Urquia Law were helpful from day one. Communication was stellar as I was always made aware of what was happening with the case and part of the decision-making with professionalism. I was awarded substantially more than if I tried to negotiate on my own and was able to move on with my life swiftly.

Even working pro bono. He is the best lawyer I've ever had. I'm a convicted felon, with multiple d.u.I.'s. I was treated with dignity and respect, despite my flaws. It gave me the desire to change my life around. He's as good as it gets. Creme de la creme.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Port Townsend, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
