Chris was an absolute Godsend for my case. He was thorough, didn't rush the process at all, and was able to negotiate a fair settlement for my case. Highly recommend!

Christopher Lund was my attorney for a personal injury case. My case had a positive outcome due to his tenacity and his ability to communicate and negotiate with the opposing party. I appreciated his frequent updates and his detailed coaching before the deposition. Negotiating appears to be his forte as he was able to arbitrate in my favor. Very professional in communicating. Office staff were also very helpful and responded in a timely manner.

Chris works at Becker Franklin Rovang, PLLC and was my attorney for a car accident I was involved in three years ago. He counseled me when I had to make a deposition, then arbitration and a final settlement with my own insurance company. He was always available and approachable to answer my questions, and keep me apprised every step of the way. I was also appreciative of Chris's advice to be realistic, but we weren't going to back down from what we believed would be a fair settlement. I would definitely recommend Chris as an attorney to anyone who wants results!

Kate Gamble was recommended to me by two friends, one of whom is an attorney and the other is an RN. Ms.Gamble came to my house and we sat together for over an hour as I told her who it was I wanted to act as the Executor my estate after my death and who it was I wanted to inherit and what it was I wanted each person to inherit and if there was something in particular I wanted to go to specific friends or family or organizations. Ms. Gamble listened carefully, answered any questions I had and made sure I understood everything. She is clearly an experienced and intelligent Attorney and I could not be more happy with the whole experience. I highly recommend her.

Joni and I met at my house to discuss options before I would hire her. She wanted me to know the details of what she needed and what to expect in court. I found her to be extremely knowledgeable and straightforward.

The first time I spoke with Joni I was impressed by her expertise and also her ability to really listen. Initially, Joni made sure that I had realistic expectations by telling me the percentage of applicants who are approved, the worst-case scenario time-wise, etc. She is a very clear communicator, was really patient when I didn't understand something about my case, and was responsive when I called or emailed her with questions or concerns. I'm very aware that quality of professionals in any field varies, but I knew that with Jonie I was in good hands. She was always on top of the developments in my case and kept me up to date. Additionally, Jone related to me as a person, not just a case. That such a great lawyer was available on the Kitsap peninsula was a real surprise; I had assumed that I'd have to go to Seattle to have a chance at finding a lawyer with Joni's expertise. Thanks Joni!

I cannot express how grateful I am to Joni Derifield for the help she gave me with my fight for my disability benefits! She won my case after I had been denied. She is knowledgeable about dealing with Social Security, and made sure I knew exactly what was happening as well as options along the way. The thing I respect the most was the integrity that she brought to the process. She believed in me, and that is not something you are used to when dealing with SSA. I would highly recommend Joni’s services if you have to deal with Social Security.

Justus helped me take care of my case while I lived 2000 miles away allowing me to keep my license and family together. I didn't have to fly to WA once he took care of everything so I could take care of my family. Truly an incredible lawyer.

From the moment that I talked to Justus prior to being assigned to him as my court appointed counsel, I was going to hire him. We spoke a few months before being back in the State. As fortune turned and I couldn't hire him it was by luck that he was to be my assigned counsel. Justus worked and fought extremely hard to make sure that I didn't see prison walls and I was allowed the opportunity to stay being a mom, a recovery Coach, a peer support counselor, and a human. Thank you Justus for believing in me. Trust me if you knew how many times it took me to get it in my thick skull that DUI's are not fun than you would know exactly why I would have hired him. He had faith in my 6th chance. Thank you Justus!! Keep it up yo!! You the real MVP

Justus did amazing! I honestly don't know which way my case would have gone, hadn't we found him! He was thorough and dug into my dui/reckless case with ease. It was nice to find out that my case was really simple with how low my numbers were and everything was dismissed!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Poulsbo, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
