Pros
1
Effective legal representation in custody disputes
“A very nasty divorce, huge battle for custody I lost my kids for 17 months but with Terry by my side justce was served, I got my kids back and I owe it all to Terry... Thank you Terry I owe you more then anyone knows!”
2
Responsive and advocates for clients
“When Mr. Robinson took over my case, things immediately started to change for the better. He is professional, competent, and he cares about his clients.”
3
Able to handle urgent and time-sensitive matters
“Terry Robinson is part man, part amazing. When my husband's ex-wife decided she didn't want to return our daughter after a scheduled visit she filed for an emergency hearing to be allowed to keep her without a single shred of evidence while we lived in another state and could not respond in person. He briefed himself on our case with only 30 minutes notice, rushed to represent us in the hearing, and got the erroneous motion thrown out and our daughter was returned the next day under the order of the judge.”
Cons
1
Inconsistent performance and poor communication
“He did nothing in court. I technically won my case but lost alot of time with my child and child support payments to me dropped drastically. Then he stopped cashing my checks. He sent me to collections for 3x what he billed me for.”
2
Potential decline in abilities due to health issues
“had used him before and was well represented . Now after he has lost this last case and cost me a small fortune , I have been told that he has had a head injury . I did notice in court that he was having problems with his memory and thought pattern , but it was all over before I realized that he shouldn't have been on my case”
3
Overcharging and questionable billing practices
“Imagine giving someone thousands of dollars, then them doing absolutely needle thin work for you, and in return getting charged outrageous fees for all THEIR work and all THEIR time, they claim to have done.”

I hired Mr. Robinson for a custody agreement. He said it would be a quick case. We agreed on the payment schedule and I paid every month as agreed. When the case took longer than he figured it would be he became harder and harder to get in touch with. He did nothing in court. I technically won my case but lost alot of time with my child and child support payments to me dropped drastically. Then he stopped cashing my checks. He sent me to collections for 3x what he billed me for. I'm still paying the collections agency years later.

There are no words good enough to express how thankful I am to this man for being there for us in our time of need. He is worth his weight ten fold in gold. Thank you Terry!

When Mr. Robinson took over my case, things immediately started to change for the better. He is professional, competent, and he cares about his clients. Each time he has advocated for me, the matter was resolved. In this particular matter, he represented me in a custody dispute and child support order. He's defended me amidst multiple false allegations and ALL were dismissed. I find that if you are forthcoming with him, you get the best results. If you have any legal matter, I recommend Mr. Robinson. He's your man!

Great family lawyer Thomas helped me and and my wife with a child custody battle over my 7 year old twins. He was clever and seen things I did not see and communicated his angle and approach to my case with a very difficult ex that was trying to ruin me in every possible way. Amy, his legal assistant kept me informed and calm in tough times as well as she was there for us whenever I struggled with a question or expressed a concern to her. Both Tom and Amy are a great team and we are so blessed to have found them. Long story short, we got the outcome we were asking for which was AMAZING. All we wanted was access to our kids and he got us a 50/50 split. We pray every night and include them in our prayers and express our gratitude over the settlement. We will continue to use the "Law Office of Thomas Baldwin" if ever any other family law issue comes up.

I had an issue with medications that Mike immediately recognized and had experience with. He was able to take care of my case in a diversionary manner and I was satisfied with the result considering the severe penalties I could have incurred.

It was my first time getting a DUI, pretty scary feeling a friend recommended Michael to me and it was a great decision to hire him on. He was very knowledgeable about situations like these, gave me all the information i needed to get started, especially for my restricted license. He got everything resolved in two court days and got my DUI reduced to negligent driving. I would definitely recommend Michael to others!!!!.

Even when things got a little sticky in my first time DUI case, Mike knows the right things to bring up and knows how to handle what gets thrown at him. I’m impressed by the confidence, composure and knowledgeability. He knows the right people, which is the biggest name of the game because if you don’t, you don’t have a defense. I’m thoroughly content with how he handled my case and if you are in the south sound area I would strongly advise to at least consult with the guy. At a fair price I doubt there are much better options. My only problem was lack of communication within his own office. I wasn’t able to get ahold of him as much as I would’ve liked to (since he’s busy handling business), and it seemed like one of his representatives didn’t have as much experience but Mike still handled it well.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Puyallup, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
