I am writing this only from a standpoint of helping people assess this attorney, rather than coming from point of any anger. The trial proceedings were recorded (due to zoom). I will state the facts and let the reader assess this attorney by themselves. The Paralegal is very detail oriented however I felt the attorney is not, though I had confidence till trial, by her positive talks. I had no DV allegations and had a good report from GAL. Simply, my ex-spouse wanted to take away my daughter from me. In prep for the documentation, I had more guidance from the paralegal than the attorney. During Mediation, the attorney steered me away from exploring an mutually agreeable solution with the other party by giving me confidence of having a strong case and don't need to bend. On the day of trial, which was virtual during covid times, she forgot to bring in the strong witnesses I had prepared. I had to reach out to remind her, but it was too late. Later the witnesses were not allowed. During the trial, the attorney failed to ask tough questions to my ex-spouse even though I was sending her messages to ask the relevant questions. Finally after the trial, the attorney said that the Judge did not seem to like her, giving as a reason for the lop sided result. She was not even able to explain why & how the finance were distributed. End Result: My ex-spouse was awarded more than 65% of my hard earned wealth and I ended up with just 15% of child custody. After the trial, I hardly got much help or directions from this attorney. I was literally left alone with an abysmal trial result. And later, the mother has simply managed to move the child away from me. A dismayed father from an abysmal framework of so called law and attorneys.

We has been working with Sunitha for over a year now in a very complicated third-party custody case. Sunitha maintains her professional demeanor while approaching her cases with compassion, care, and going the extra mile when needed. I truly believe that her heart is in every case - it definitely has been in ours. If you are looking for an attorney who is profoundly knowledgeable, thinks outside the box, and truly cares about the outcome then Sunitha would be an asset on your side. She's an excellent advocate and fights hard for her clients - I would highly recommend her.

I live in California and Ms. Anjilvel helped both me and members of my family with our wills. I found her to be not only professional and knowledgeable but highly intelligent and extremely patient no matter how many questions she was asked. If we have any other legal issues in the future I will not hesitate to contact her.

I first met Sunitha about 3 years ago when I was in need of a family attorney for an extremely difficult separation. Before meeting Sunitha I had met and spoken to numerous attorneys about my case and not one of them made me feel comfortable or gave me the feeling that I could trust them to help me through this difficult time in my life. Sunitha is extremely experienced and will always tell you how things will go or could go and will never promise anything she can’t deliver on unlike other attorney’s I have met. Sunitha is very responsive and always kept me informed about my case every step of the way. I probably wasn’t the easiest clients to deal with but Sunitha stood by me and still does to this day. I would highly recommend Sunitha.

Sunitha failed to answer my questions AT ALL, many times. Sometimes she didn't return my calls, at others she took a very long time. My case dragged from a few months to over a year, because she repeatedly asked to postpone (against my will). I suspect she was concerned about going to trial. Finally, she misrepresented the alternative solution. She said it was no big deal, it turned out to be costly and cumbersome.

Mr. Malcolm just had to deal with a case of mine for over 5 years, where most attorneys would have just caved and would have settled for 10% of what I received. My other attorneys just floated my case to him, thinking it wasn't worth their time. Mr. Malcolm had patience and knew that I had been wronged, he fought for my case and eventually got me even more than I had ever expected. I would still trade what I had received to go back in time and delete that day, undo what happened. But Sean Malcolm, his knowledge and his team made my case end with a fair settlement, which I am greatful for. Thank you Sean

My experience with Sean and Russ was excellent! I originally hired another firm that I found through a google search that was absolutely terrible! I reached out to Malcom Law Firm to see if they had any advice or if this was a normal turn around for the kind of case I had and Sean spoke to me about my case for at least 30 minutes right away! I felt heard and validated throughout the entire process and received regular check-ins from Russ and Sean both giving me updates on my case. They were transparent during the negotiation stage and helped navigate an otherwise frustrating and stressful situation. Sean even checked in after my case was completed to make sure I was doing well and was happy with the outcome! I would absolutely recommend this firm to anyone in need of their services!

I had found out about Shashi from the Avvo reviews, and reached out to her for a real estate related help. She simply works magic by comforting her clients to know of what the worst case scenario looks like. In this process, she immediately alleviates the pain that anyone would normally have as they get into situations requiring an attorney's help. I feel that sometimes the mere imagination of the worst case scenario gets us into bad resolutions and this is exactly where a great attorney like Shashi comes to help by giving you a more realistic picture of the impact spectrum.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Redmond, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
