Took my payment and after three weeks cited a conflict of interest because a receptionist(?) attends the same church as the person I'm trying to evict. Seems iffy that everyone in your church is untouchable? Slow and unreliable, regardless, since conflicts are supposed to be addressed up front and not after my squatter enjoys a few more weeks on my dime.

It was by the grace of God that I found Rachel Woodard. I was in Dire Straits didn’t know what I was doing. Had squatters on two properties three probates I was knuckles deep in. She did for me what I couldn’t do for myself. She was always on my side, and I knew that by the way she represented me in the courtroom. You have nothing to lose with Rachel but everything to gain by calling her for representation. She has integrity, character, and professionalism. Her office staff is incredible too.

I hired Deric to represent me and it was money well spent. I would recommend any person facing a criminal conviction to at least consult with Deric and see for yourself. Sadly, Deric is not the first lawyer I have had to hire over the years and I do have experience with bad ones. I can honestly say Deric was excellent at communication and I was never caught by surprise. He was easy to access which is huge, because I found myself in urgent need of his help, once or twice, and he rescued me. Thank you Deric for helping me get my life back.

Had a fairly complicated criminal defense matter. Deric was able to negotiate an agreement with the prosecution and my case was dismissed and I was able to take a breath and get back to life. Deric helped ensure a momentary lapse of judgement didn’t ruin the rest of my life. If you’ve been charged with a crime, need legal advice or are not sure what to do please call Deric. I owe him big time for the assistance he was able to give me.

After being involved in recent serious legal charges it was hard to know what to do next. It was way beyond anything I've known or dealt with & could not imagine what my choices & chances were in defending myself. After learning more, I called Johnson & Orr for help - mostly because they were close. They called back right away & set-up a meeting where they shared their clear experience on such cases & treated me positively as a partner in resolving my legal issues. By partner I mean they were always clear & honest with me about the process, with just the right/helpful communication through email. For what it's worth, Deric Orr was very successful with my case & I'd highly recommend his efforts on any legal needs you may have. Plus their one-time-fee seems to cover an awesome commitment for them to bring the case to resolution.

We have a handicapped son, so we needed to do some planning to care for him. Derek prepared our wills and included provisions for a guardian and setting up a special needs trust. Derek listened to our wishes and included them in the will. Answered all of our questions and prepared the will with all the associated documents.

Mr. Moreno was very helpful and knowledgeable. He answered any questions or concerns I had. He’s helped me with various cases, including: renewing my DACA, Advanced Parole, and applying for my green card. He has made every process of each case very clear and streamlined. He was also flexible about setting up payment plans that worked within our budget. His team is very friendly and professional!

Through the past 20 years we have had dishonest lawyers who made promises and just took our money. George was different from the first consultation we had with him, he was upfront and honest and explained to us what the process was and what we needed to do. It took less then a year to get my husband’s papers, and we are very happy! Thank you George!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Richland, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
