I have had Jesse as my attorney for years now...not by his choice, more like a lack of options for him by my many self inflicted situations of needing him repeatedly to represent me. I made this man's job more difficult than it needed to be, more times than he needed or should have had to represent me, but you know what...he never once gave up on me, never gave me false hope, never sugar coated the possible outcomes, never doubted me and never once walked in the courtroom to defend me like I was anything less than his kin! I could be (and was) 100% in the wrong and guilty (so many times) and he fought for me and defended me to the very end! When I gave him nothing to work with for a defense, he still gave it his FULL effort and complete attention when I had his back against the wall. I can't tell you how supported I felt the many times he would tell me "you don't deserve to be in there..." (prison on minor violations). It was easy to get him on the phone and get responses from him... I've heard horror stories of other inmates not being able to reach their attorneys for weeks and months...Jesse and his assistants were efficient and quick to respond and resolve any questions I had, anytime of the business day. I would constantly boast (brag really) about how much I loved my attorney when I heard others complaining of the 'public defenders'. You can tell the 'public' part of his title does NOT limit measure or regulate the amount of compassion, energy and care Jesse puts into his clients and work. He has a passion for helping people, no matter their economic status, tax bracket or lack of responsibility (my worst trait). I don't know where I'd be if I had a different attorney...probably still in prison. Jesse is amazing and I will never forget all he has done for me...and the positive, patient and caring attitude he maintained the entire time...4 years...thats patience!!! I just had my paper cut last week and Im afraid to try and find my footing knowing he isn't legally obligated to be attached to me anymore. Anyone who gets him in the future is in AMAZING hands and I will miss him and his assistants terribly!!! Thanks Jesse!!

I just retained Jesse and have had nothing but confidence the 3 times we have met. Immediately he was soooo compassionate, understanding, focused on listening to me, never interrupted me, gave it to me straight up without being rude or demeaning.... he was NOT what I have always assumed attorneys to be...arrogant, impatient, could care less what happens to you... Jesse listened until he fully comprehended my situation and kept me feeling positive when he saw how worried or lacking hope I would sometimes have. I can't wait to see how amazing he will be finishing out this case with me. He is truly a God send!!!

My name is Julio and at the time I was facing serious accusations and facing life. I had never been in a situation like this before and I was very scared, confused, and had no idea what to do, but after having Jesse as my lawyer, I can honestly say he made that experience much easier for my family and me and I will never forget it. Jesse was always straight forward with me. It was evident that he was serious and hardworking. He was always there when we would call him and if not he would call back right away. My family and I had so many questions and he was always understanding, patient, and reassuring. In court as soon as Jesse started representing me and my case, he was amazing. He spoke very professionally, he was well prepared, and knew exactly what ti say and how to say it. We were very impressed and he made us feel secure through the whole process. I will always appreciate what he did for my family and me and recommend him 100%.

My name is Jason and I wanted to share my experience with jesse cantor. Jesse is amazing to say the least. I was looking at serious jail time and many consequences because of the charges I was against. The moment I arrived at his office, he took his time to listen and explain everything about my case. He was very straightforward on everything and told me everything was going to be ok and that he will have my back in every step of the process.Every time I called his office he either took my call or called me back right away. That was a big deal for me because I was nervous and didn't know the process. When we arrived at court my wife looked at me and said " look at your lawyer, this guy is dressed to impress." He was outstanding when we went in front of the judge. My hands were sweating, heart pounding, I was hoping the judge didn't ask me anything for fear of stumbling over my words or complete anxiety I was going through. Then the magic happened! Jesse took total charge, he knew everything to say and everything to argue about. Everybody knew who had the upper hand and it was Jesse. When walking out of the courtroom everybody was starring at us like they wanted my lawyer. It felt awesome! I was a celebrity for 10 minutes. Jesse cantor literally saved my life. He is my lawyer for life and I will never go into the courtroom or let a friend or family go into a courtroom without him!!!!

I recently had the privilege of working with Matthew Cunanan to draft my living will, and I must say, the experience was nothing short of excellent. From start to finish, Matthew demonstrated unparalleled professionalism, efficiency, and empathy, making the entire process smooth and stress-free. One of the standout qualities of Matthew's service was his remarkable ease to work with. He guided me through each step of the process, ensuring that I understood all aspects of my living will and addressing any concerns or questions I had along the way. His clear communication and willingness to listen made me feel heard and understood, fostering a sense of trust and confidence in his expertise. Matthew's thoughtfulness and understanding were evident throughout our interactions. He took the time to truly understand my wishes and priorities, tailoring the living will to suit my specific needs and circumstances. Sarah has taken us from incorporation through investment trademarking and every other thing that has come up. She is smart, fast, responsive and has the answers you need. She is also ably assisted which is really important when it comes to saving money and getting great service. She only gets involved when real legal decision making is required, otherwise everything runs smoothly under her review. Working under the auspice of Davis Wright Tremain (DWT.COM) means you have instant credibility with investors because you are working with a blue chip firm and you have access to specialist resources (IP etc) whenever you may need them. I originally looked at the least expensive way to get legal help and after some research happily discovered that this was it.

Sarah is a solid asset to any deal team doing work domestically or internationally. As outside counsel for a fast growing company, Sarah was the primary point person for multiple strategic transactions including: fundraising, cross-border M&A, sensitive regulatory dealings, and managing through constantly changing corporate/market demands. I've worked with Sarah multiple times over a 4-5 year period and I look forward to our next engagement.

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Seattle, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
