Unfortunately I was unable to see my boy David in action. He was just too good and the prosecution surrender before we went to trial. Even still, he kept me informed and confident that we had the odds in our favor. Highly recommended if you’re looking for someone to represent you. 10/10 would hire again.
Thanks for everything David.

David is professional, personal, and persistent. He did not give up until he got a fair deal for my son. He went out of his way to keep me informed of proceedings. I was extremely reluctant to invest in legal services, but after working with him I am very happy I did. I cannot recommend him enough.

I hired Mr. Hammerstad to represent me in a TRO action against me. I am a legal professional with over 25 years of litigation experience. Admittedly I behaved in a manner toward the complainant that in retrospect could be considered objectionable; however, Hammerstad from the outset treated me as one already convicted and awaiting sentencing. He said to me during our first preparatory meeting “she (complainant) will be a better witness than you.” (Presumably because I would question his knowledge of the facts and his acquiescence to her attorney’s viewpoint and demands.) Not only had he never met her at that time, she failed to appear for the hearing while I was dressed like the lawyer I am rather than like the public defender Hammerstad appeared as (no offense to public defenders). The judge, while finding that a TRO was appropriate, ordered 6 months (complainant wanted 2 years), and no contact within 200 feet of her home or work (she wanted one mile), and the judge failed to order other restrictions for which the complainant petitioned.
In my letter firing Hammerstad I informed him that the ruling was favorable to me despite his efforts not because of his efforts. I was charged over $8k for one court appearance plus a couple of meetings in his office. He failed to grasp the facts of the case. Often I had to explain and remind him of the facts to support my position/defense. Quite frankly, I firmly believe that Hammerstad was of the opinion that this attractive woman couldn not really have had any interest in me, his client. It appeared to me that Hammerstad could not quite believe that despite clear proof that this attractive medical professional asked out her patient (me) and had a 3 hour date for drinks with me while still acting as my provider, that there was no way she had any reason to lie to protect her position and career (it is a violation of the Complainant’s Professional Code of Ethics to have a sexual relationship with a client/patient).
I suggest you seek an attorney whose hourly rate is commensurate with his skill, attention to detail, and belief in his client rather than just a number of years in the profession. Another indicator of his poor professional work, he referred to me by a wholly incorrect first name in his final letter to me. More reason to be unimpressed by Mr. Hammerstad. I ended up representing myself on the issue of attorney fees and no doubt faired much better than if Hammerstad had continued to represent me.

I cannot recommend Dave enough. He is thoughtful, measured, and always available. He has a clear thought process and helps one weigh out the pros & cons of every issue, before recommending a course of action. He got my case dismissed and I couldn't be more happier with his representation!

Mr. Hammerstad was quick to respond to my emails and calls, thorough and knowledgeable in his explanations to my case and questions, got me the best outcome possible, and was exceedingly kind throughout proceedings.

David Hammerstad is amazingly talented...
In order to keep this review relevant to the reader I’ll break it down in sections.
History - I use to live in the greater Seattle area and moved out of State several years ago. I was unaware, until recently, that I had an open felony drug case and a warrant for my arrest for a failure to appear!
1 - Upon my initial contact (after interviewing serval other lawyers in the area) with David he took his time to understand my case and my circumstances (being this was an old case and I did not live in State anymore). He then worked out a client deposit that was fair to me and him; not like other attorneys that wanted $5000, or more, flat to take on my case.
2 - After detailed review my case, collecting the documentation he required etc. he took my case to the prosecuting attorney.
3 - I did not have to fly into town once nor appear before a judge; I stayed put and David did all the work for me.
4 - Within a matter of weeks, less than a month, David convinced the prosecuting attorney to dismiss my case. Yes, you read correctly he got my case dismissed!!! DISMISSED!!!
5 - If you, or someone you know, is facing a drug related offense and are looking for the best lawyer in Washington State you have found him. Stop reading this review and call his office for a consultation right this minute. You will not be disappointed.
Thank you David Hammerstad and Associates. I am so grateful to have found you and your talented team. I wish I could give a 10 star review because David absolutely deserves it and more!!!

Dave listened to our story and supported us. He won our case outside of going to trial. He came up with a win strategy and was very intuitive with the case at hand. I would highly recommend Dave.

I offer the highest possible recommendation for David Hammerstad to represent anyone that requires a criminal defense attorney… I faced a federal drug felony charge. I thought my life was over! Mr. Hammerstad explained everything to me and made my family and I feel comfortable. He was always available for questions and answered all inquiries. This was a very serious matter, after first speaking with him I felt reassured by him. Mr. Hammerstad thinks and acts accordingly on his feet when in the courtroom. He is very professional, and determined. In the end I got the results we wanted. I was truly grateful & blessed for his knowledge. He was amazing in court! I highly recommend Mr. Hammerstad for any serious drug related or any other criminal case!

David was my attorney after my arrest for patronizing a prostitute in Seattle under the Buyer Beware strategy to end demand. He was understanding, non-judgmental and incredibly professional in his communications, advising, and direct work with the prosecution office as well as the courts. He was a key determinant in my walk through the system and connecting me with OPS (Organization for Prostitution Survivors, they lead the program for men called Stopping Sexual Exploitation). It was my first time dealing with the legal system and his help was not only in personal support but he effectively managed to obtain a beneficial deal with the prosecution and resolving my case in the best possible scenario. I strongly recommend David to anyone in need of professional and supportive service.

Mr. Hammerstad was retained to defend our son for crimes which were committed in conjunction with an addiction disorder involving opiates. The charges filed involved property thefts, trespassing and trafficking. There were three separate judicial jurisdictions involved. The time of Mr. Hammerstad's performance spanned a period of eight months.
In each of the three venues, Mr. Hammerstad achieved results which can only be described in terms of a superior outcome for our son. Through his extensive and significant history in working with prosecutorial offices, he was able to guide and influence the direction of discussions which provided the most positive outcomes for each case filed. These discussions involved not only prosecutors, but for the most serious felony offenses, the charging Detective as well.
Final resolution achieved for all the cases were outstanding with the most significant judgements resulting in reduction of the felony charges to misdemeanors in the second degree, deferred sentences and the agreement for unsupervised probation for a period of 24 months. The judgement for community service as combined with restitution in two of the proceedings was of significance.
We are very grateful for Mr. Hammerstad's work ethic, dedication to achieving best outcomes and his overall high level of professionalism. We would not hesitate to recommend his exceptional service to others in need of legal oversight and service.

We were assigned David Hammerstad in place of a public defender. This was made possible by the fact that this attorney considers rendering his services in this capacity as a way of “giving back”. Our family is grateful to have been on the receiving end of his stellar reputation and obvious professional astuteness.
As in many cases, the law dictated very few options in the case of our son’s proceedings. It has been a tremendous education for all concerned and we feel fortunate to have had a very patient and responsive attorney such as David Hammerstad. There was not an email or phone call that was not returned immediately and with great care and thoroughness – David was incredibly responsive to any and all of our (many) questions and worries.
In real life, we would not have been able to afford an attorney of his caliber. We would highly recommend his services to anyone in need.
