I’ve known Andrew since law school (I’m a lawyer as well, but don’t practice anymore and would prefer to hire an expert), and I am so glad I hired him to help settle my auto/injury case. It wasn’t a huge case (thankfully I wasn’t majorly injured!), but I did need PT/massage and some time away from work to heal. I really appreciated how he took the reins and got everything settled in a timely manner. He was very communicative and everything was done in a 3-4 month period (I was done treating a while back). I wish I had hired him to start, and will recommend him to any friends/family who are in an injury accident. If you are reading this and looking for a great lawyer, hire him! Thank you Andrew!!!

Andrew was able to settle my claim at the maximum amount and worked hard to negotiate medical bills so the settlement portion directly paid out to me was maximized as much as possible. I received my settlement check in the mail in a timely manner and would def recommend Andrew to anyone looking for a reputable, respectful & consistent attorney to represent them in their personal injury case! I had gone through 2 different personal injury attorneys for this accident who lacked attentiveness and were poor communicators, so I was on the hunt for a personal injury attorney who could meet my needs. I am so grateful to have found/hired Andrew to represent me. I had a very complicated injury case and often ran into circumstances that were difficult to navigate on my own. Andrew provided me with great direction, his communication is absolutely on point, I don't think I ever had to wait more than 2 days for a response via email. He always answered all of my questions and at times when my inquiries were things he had not dealt with before, he always took the time to investigate them further to help answer them the best he could/provide me with needed resources.

I was involved in a car accident where the other driver was found 100% at fault. Unfortunately, I needed extensive treatment on my sternum, neck, and knee in order to recover from the impact. I also needed a lawyer! Andrew came highly recommended from one of my care providers and he didn't disappoint. He checked in during my treatment period with updates on my case and settled the claim quickly after treatment ended. No auto accident is stress-free but Andrew made the claim process simple by requiring little of my time and effort. He was able to settle for an amount that ensures I am comfortable if I need to seek treatment in the future which was my number one concern going in. If you're in need of personal injury representation, hire Andrew Cherin.

Andrew truly does look out for his clients. We initially hired him for my husbands horrible rear-end accident where our primary vehicle got totaled. My husbands back has never been the same but Andrew helped educate us, advise us, and listened to all our concerns. Never having dealt with this type of situation before, he was a patient and empathetic attorney to have on our side. He was honest when maybe we weren't thinking logically and when he didn't have an immediate answer he researched or confirmed his thoughts with time considered and knew how to deliver appropriate messages. Because of the success and experience with our first case for my husband, we hired him again when I was involved as the driver and sideswiped by another driver not paying attention. Horrified and upset that we were yet in another situation like this, he again took care of our family with care and patience. I say patience because I micromanage everything due to my OCD. We have been honored and blessed that he took on each of our cases and forever grateful. Thank you Andrew!

This is the first time I have had to hire an attorney. I was referred to Andrew by a trusted friend. I had spent several months trying on my own to negotiate a fair settlement with an insurance company, but was getting nowhere. Although Andrew's office is a considerable distance from my home, he met me at a convenient location, explained everything clearly, and helped settle my case quickly and fairly. Andrew must have some special tricks up his sleeve because he was not only able to secure a larger settlement than I could on my own, but he also got my insurance company to accept a reduced reimbursement for my PIP. If you must hire an attorney, Andrew Cherin is the one to hire!

I recently had the privilege of working with Matthew Cunanan to draft my living will, and I must say, the experience was nothing short of excellent. From start to finish, Matthew demonstrated unparalleled professionalism, efficiency, and empathy, making the entire process smooth and stress-free. One of the standout qualities of Matthew's service was his remarkable ease to work with. He guided me through each step of the process, ensuring that I understood all aspects of my living will and addressing any concerns or questions I had along the way. Sarah has taken us from incorporation through investment trademarking and every other thing that has come up. She is smart, fast, responsive and has the answers you need. She is also ably assisted which is really important when it comes to saving money and getting great service. She only gets involved when real legal decision making is required, otherwise everything runs smoothly under her review. Working under the auspice of Davis Wright Tremain (DWT.COM) means you have instant credibility with investors because you are working with a blue chip firm and you have access to specialist resources (IP etc) whenever you may need them. I originally looked at the least expensive way to get legal help and after some research happily discovered that this was it.

Sarah is a solid asset to any deal team doing work domestically or internationally. As outside counsel for a fast growing company, Sarah was the primary point person for multiple strategic transactions including: fundraising, cross-border M&A, sensitive regulatory dealings, and managing through constantly changing corporate/market demands. I've worked with Sarah multiple times over a 4-5 year period and I look forward to our next engagement.

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Seattle, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
