My wife was runover in a crosswalk buy a driver. I witnessed the entire thing and it was one of the scariest moments of my life. Fortunately my wife survived but she had very serious injuries which required surgery and hospitalization. Shortly before this event, My wife and I had recently moved to the United States and were unfamiliar with the insurance claims process and how to recover for our injuries. Ryan was referred to us through my wife’s work and he immediately returned my call when I contacted him. We had lots of questions at the beginning and Ryan explanations took a few calls. I could tell he really wanted us to understand what our options were as far as recovery. He also did an excellent job explaining our health insurance benefits and how that related to our claims. When it came time to resolve our claims Ryan continued to be effective. Unfortunately the insurance policy that the driver had was not sufficient to compensate us for our injuries. Therefore Ryan was able to recover money out of the at-fault driver’s pocket for our injuries. Once we recovered as much as we could, Ryan then turned his attention to our health insurance company and did an excellent job dealing with it and its reimbursement claims. This entire matter was traumatic and extremely difficult. I am very thankful that we had Ryan to help us with our recovery and guide us through this process. I recommend you contact him if you’ve been injured.

On a nice day in July a few years ago I was walking down a city sidewalk. The area that I was in was poorly designed for pedestrian traffic. As I was searching for the correct sign to re-direct me to my route, I tripped over a heightened slab of sidewalk. I quickly threw my hands in front of me to brace for the impact, but before my hands could get situated I struck my head and face on the pavement. It was painful and required many medical and dental procedures. When I eventually hired Ryan to handle my case he went to work right away, documenting the area where the fall occurred and sending numerous public records requests to the entities in charge of maintaining the sidewalks to see if there had been complaints in the past. I suspected this was going to be a complicated and difficult matter because of how large the entities were that were responsible for keeping the sidewalk safe. Ryan was tenacious in pursuing the defendants, and after obtaining several thousand pages of documents he was able to locate a smoking gun compliant filed a year or so before my fall, which put one of the entities on notice of the sidewalk. Of course nothing was ever done to fix it, and that dangerous condition caused my fall. We had to file suit, and Ryan continued to pursue the defendants and the truth no matter what obstacles were thrown at him. In the end we were able to resolve my case satisfactorily. I was very impressed with Ryan’s abilities as an advocate and an attorney. I highly recommend contacting him if you’ve been injured and need someone to advocate for you.

Ryan did a awesome job representing my daughter and I after we were in a multiple impact collision on the freeway. Each party claimed the other was at fault so that made it very difficult for my daughter and I. We hired Ryan and he knew what to do right away. We ended up filing suit against both parties but were able to resolve the case without a trial. What was even more difficult was getting the court to approve my daughters recovery. Because of the pandemic it was very difficult to obtain a hearing date for my daughters settlement. Ryan was very persistent in making sure everything was done correctly. I am grateful that Ryan was able to guide my daughter and I through our case and resolve it on favorable terms. I recommend you contact him if you’ve been in a car collision.

I was injured when a car struck me when I was walking in a crosswalk. It was a traumatic experience for many reasons. A few months after the collision I learned about Ryan and his services through a WSU alumni organization that he and my husband both belong to. I had many questions about what to do and wanted to make sure hiring a lawyer was the right move. Ryan and I met and he listened to my concerns and answered my questions I had about my claim against the at fault driver and what that process might look like. At no time did Ryan pressure me at all to hire him but he did recommend I hire an attorney because of the injuries I sustained. I did hire Ryan because I felt he had good judgement and he listened to my concerns. Throughout the entire case Ryan did an excellent job explaining where we were at in the case and what I could expect. When the settlement offers presented by the at fault party's insurance company were unreasonable Ryan knew it was time to file suit. Fortunately, shortly after he did that we were able to reach a settlement with the at-fault party's insurance company. Ryan did an excellent job with my case - he was kind and patient with me throughout and followed through with the case in a timely manner. I would highly recommend him if you need an injury attorney.

If you’ve been hurt in an automobile accident and don’t want to hassle with the insurance companies hire Ryan.  Here is why I say that.   I was hit by a drunk driver in my car when I was exiting the freeway.  After the collision, the driver he switched seats with his passenger after the crash, but before the cops arrived.   Once the police arrived they figure it all out and arrested the guy who hit me.   I was taken to the hospital with injuries and the driver was taken to jail.  I hired Ryan shortly after the crash because I wanted to make sure the person who hit me was prosecuted for drunk driving, that my medical bills were paid and that I was compensated for the injuries I sustained.  Ryan helped with all of this.  He was in contact with the King County Prosecutor and ultimately found out that the guy who hit me skipped bail and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.  He made sure my medical bills were paid by my own insurance company which was a huge relief.  Finally when it came time to resolve my case he recovered the maximum available under the at-fault driver’s insurance policy.  He was then also able to recover under my own underinsured motorist policy.   Ryan kept me informed throughout the entire process and always answered my questions quickly.   He never set unrealistic expectations and clearly knows this area of the law.  If you need an attorney to help you with an injury, I’d contact Ryan.  At the very least he will tell you what your options are so you can make an informed decision on how to proceed.

Sarah has taken us from incorporation through investment trademarking and every other thing that has come up. She is smart, fast, responsive and has the answers you need. She is also ably assisted which is really important when it comes to saving money and getting great service. She only gets involved when real legal decision making is required, otherwise everything runs smoothly under her review. Working under the auspice of Davis Wright Tremain (DWT.COM) means you have instant credibility with investors because you are working with a blue chip firm and you have access to specialist resources (IP etc) whenever you may need them. I originally looked at the least expensive way to get legal help and after some research happily discovered that this was it.

Sarah is a solid asset to any deal team doing work domestically or internationally. As outside counsel for a fast growing company, Sarah was the primary point person for multiple strategic transactions including: fundraising, cross-border M&A, sensitive regulatory dealings, and managing through constantly changing corporate/market demands. I've worked with Sarah multiple times over a 4-5 year period and I look forward to our next engagement.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Seattle, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
