I had to fight for custody for my daughter after being removed from her Mothers home! Joe and Erin fought hard for me and my family! I wanted full custody and able to move out of state! Joe did that and more! I would hire again!

Joseph Linehan and his assistant, Erin, were wonderful to work with. I had a case that lasted a few years and at no point did I feel that I was out of the loop or neglected in any way. Their professionalism, communication and quick response time, thorough preparation, insightful knowledge and extensive experience were excellent. I would recommend Mr. Linehan to anyone needing counsel.

Joe Linehan and the team at Allen | Fischer did a wonderful job at representing me. They where really involved and very personable to work with. They gladly took on my case and went out of their way to meet with me on their lunch hour and went above and beyond to make sure I was well represented and won my case. Kudos to the A|F team.

Joe handled a very sticky parenting plan situation for my family. It was a long process, and he was great the entire way. Joe was very responsive to messages, emails and calls, which is very important when you're dealing with sensitive situations. Any time you feel comfortable hugging your lawyer when the case is resolved, is a good one. Highly recommended.

Joe Linehan handled my custody case and helped me receive the results that are in the best interest of my child. He was very thorough, efficiently communicated through either himself or his assistant Erin, and made sure that everything was done correctly in a timely manner. Even before I hired him in July 2019 he took the time to review my case and make sure that it would be worthwhile to file so as not to waste my time and money if it had no chance of going anywhere. Once he determined there was cause to file for a custody modification I hired him and presented him with a multitude of evidence to go through. He read through everything and lead me through the process of filing with the courts for modification and emergency change to custody so that my child would not be forced to return to an unhealthy environment. Joe worked with me via phone and email as I live more than 5 hours away in Western WA. He helped me fill out multiple forms, write declarations, and present my evidence to the court. He also represented me in multiple court hearings and trial and always presented the facts and made sure the judge understood the issues in the case. He even tried to guide the other party as to the proper steps to take in court when they were pro se. He really cared about the outcome of the case and worked with me extensively to draw up a proposed parenting plan to present to the other party for settlement, and then for trial once settling didn't pan out. In the end the judge granted my proposed parenting plan after the trial in June 2020, and now my child does not have to worry about being in an unhealthy and unstable environment any longer. Joe also offered to help in the future with any issues that may come up with the parenting plan. Thank you Joe and Erin for all your hard work and effort. Without you I don't think I would have been able to modify my parenting plan and make sure my child is safe, healthy, and happy! I would 100% recommend Joe Linehan to any person having custody/family law issues in the Spokane area.

My wife and I have consulted with Casey on numerous occasions. Both my wife and I are in helping professions that deal will HIPPA as well as state mandates. Every time we have sought consultation from Casey Bruner he has been honest and open with us on appropriate action to pursue or not pursue (regardless of his financial gain). Casey has show integrity, character, and careful consideration each and every time we have sought consultation. If at any point my wife and I do have to seek legal representation, Casey Bruner will be our first call!

Highly recommend Tony Hertel, Attorney for Disabilities cases. This is a sharp attorney and a very compassionate person. And believe it or not, he is a truly honest attorney, as well as a highly ethical one. He saved me money by being honest with me.

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Spokane, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
