Andrea has represented me twice in court now and both time she's done amazing. She comes prepared and makes great points and arguments. During difficult situations Andrea has been able to not get me 50/50, realistic child support and also help defend me and got me everything I asked her for so far. She sets realistic expectations and is honest, caring and brilliant. I will also say her paralegal, Tammy, is on point and a rock.

Excellent, definitely a five star Firm! Is all I can say to the attorney and staff at “For Men Family Law.” I have been involved with this law firm for several years over a variety of cases, and I recommend them to everyone. They have taken so much stress off of me. My case had a variety of complexity’s, in which For Men Family Law convinced the commissioner to appoint a guardian ad litem to unveil what’s been actually going on. Their staff knows their stuff that’s for sure! Nothing seems to get past them. This firm is extremely knowledgeable and available, genuinely cares. And that means the most to me with my busy schedule. If I have an issue or question and send an email I get a quick respond every time. The amazing attorney there is a wonderful person! The firm has strong morals and believes in truth and honesty. I admire that very much as well as they stands for truth and justice, will fight for your rights! I recommend “For Men Family Law,” to anyone who needs a great strong attorney as well as an amazing and dedicated paralegal. The firm operates in a very intelligent, genuine, and caring way. I am so very happy I found them!. This team is one awesome team! Thank you all.

Andrea is very passionate about defending the rights of fathers and giving the children the time they need with their fathers! I’m glad I chose Andrea and would hire her firm again if needed!

When I sat through the consultation I explained the importance of expediting a change in circumstance and I needed my child support adjusted. After over 8 months she still was unable to make any headway. I released her as my attorney because of her inability to get the job done. I felt she continued to draw out the adjustment to continue to charge me every time there was an email or a phone call. Between her and her assistant/para legal, a simple change of circumstance and adjustment should have taken less than two/three months. If you hire her, be prepared to pay...

There aren't enough good things to say about Andrea. First, I think she is the smartest lawyer I have ever met. I have used many lawyers for business reasons but I really needed someone who really had their act together when it came to my divorce. I met with quite a few lawyers until a trusted colleague referred me to Andrea. Wow! She was light years ahead of the other lawyers I met with. She knew what she was talking about and represented me well in court. She took the time to explain the process to me, what I could expect, what the law was and what I could expect cost wise. She also understood the emotional and more personal part of a divorce.. This was completely lacking in the other atotnrneys I met with. She is not only very intelligent but she has a certain sassines and style about her too. She gets it and knows how difficult a divorce can be. She understood that I needed to be protected financially as well as getting me a fair parenting plan with my two boys. She spent a lot of time working on my case and was well informed and able to answer questions that the judge had at our hearing. She was articulate and presented well. My wife's attorney appeared to have no idea what was going on. I would definitely tell anyone that you would be foolish to hire anyone but her!

Tricia Usab was extremely helpful and knowledgible in creating our Will. She went above and beyond our expectations to help us create our Will and it is reassuring that our children will be ok, should anything happen to us.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Spokane, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
