I cannot recommend Attorney Patti Steele and The Steele Law Firm highly enough! Over the past six years, she has demonstrated exceptional knowledge and advocacy, providing me with unwavering support during some of the most challenging times in my life. Her tactful and strategic approach to my case truly set her apart from others in her field. What impressed me the most was her commitment to ensuring my voice was heard throughout the entire process. Patti and her dedicated team went above and beyond, not only offering legal representation but also building a robust network of expertise that was invaluable to my case. They tirelessly worked to reveal the truth and fight for my rights when I felt overwhelmed and ready to give up. Patti is not just an attorney; she is a truly outstanding professional whose passion for her work shines through in every interaction. Words cannot fully express the level of gratitude and appreciation I have for her and her team. They provided me with the support and advocacy I desperately needed, ultimately saving my life and giving my children the opportunity for a brighter future. Thank you, Patti, for everything you’ve done!

The best Attorney ever. I've been working on and off with Mike for about 10 years now. It feels good walking into a courtroom, and knowing you have someone like Mike who has your best interests in mind. I recommend Mike for any your legal troubles.

I like how they talk to me and not at me and in verbiage easily understandable. They made sure I totally understood the contact before signing on to them as a client. But I especially appreciate how they continue to keep me in the loop and have an open door policy. Thank you Freeman Law 😁

I found Freeman Law by chance in a Google search when trying to find a lawyer after an accident. From the first point of contact with Kim and Amera, they were very friendly, welcoming, and professional. Through my 2yr ordeal they showed compassion and kept in contact with me by phone and email to check on my well-being as well as update me with any information. They answered all my questions and if they didn't know right then they were sure to find out and get back to me. Their communication was top tier. Even as things got wrapped up, everyone in the office I interacted with were so kind. They also support a few causes which I thought was cool and I was also able to pick which one to have a donation go to. Overall, great firm to work with and would highly recommend.

I want to acknowledge Jazmin for helping me understand a legal matter. As a State Farm agent, it’s difficult to get the necessary help with understanding the legality of certain situations. Knowledgeable people like Jazmin makes things easy to understand. And I appreciate her professionalism as well!

In the past 20-some years Bob has represented me 4 times. Twice he defended me against criminal charges, and twice was my advocate for injury claims. He was at all times most personable a friendly and always explained the realities of my situation and made sure that I understood what was going on. In all cases he obtained favorable results. His fees for criminal defense were less than what other lawyers quoted me and yet he went full out on my behalf as if I was his only client. (He is a sole practitioner and is sometimes very very busy.) Once he was too busy to take a case from me and referred me to another lawyer who handled my case with high competence and who obtained a great result for my claim. In addition to criminal defense and personal injury work, Bob has assisted my brother, (who is a musician), with some entertainment contracts and is well versed in entertainment law. There are truly not enough stars to rate how helpful Bob is!

My attorney was extremely helpful and considerate. She was flexible with her times to be able to contact me after work. And then did the impossible for me and got my case dismissed! Nothing but good things from these people ! :)

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Tacoma, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
