Hire Natalie she is amazing!!! I ran the gamut of attorneys before finding Natalie and honestly I was getting quite discouraged. I spoke to leagues of highly recommended and sought after attorneys who have clear reputations for winning cases like this, and I can tell you that I was more impressed with Natalie in the first two minutes of our conversation than with any of the other professionals, even the ones with over 21 years of experience. I have heard many people complain that once retained, attorneys become less communicative and less responsive. Natalie was the opposite, she was fully committed to doing everything she could to help and keep me updated on the case. I talked to her a number of times after normal business hours and even met with her on a Sunday to work on the case. Natalie is the kind of attorney you pray has time for your case. She is honest, ethical, compassionate, knowledgeable, supportive, connected, and encouraging. Her guidance was completely on par and she delivered on everything she said she was going to do. I cannot say enough good things about Natalie. She will always be at the top of my list of attorneys to call if needed.

With little to no introduction, Natalie came on board and did more for us than over the course of time that has been done within her control in less than 2 hrs. She was presented with a case and took it on as her own, with every intention to get us the help we needed! I am in the military and had less than five days before I had to be away for training, with a little faith that things would work out in our favor. With her persistence and drive she made miracles happen. She stood firm, went in with an offer and kept on her end of the deal. I couldn't stop thanking her enough for what she did; we were so thankful for all her efforts. If ever in a jam ever again, in state or out of state, I will definitely be calling on Natalie to be my representation!

Very Professional, Intelligent Attorney. She was kind, compasionate and quick to solve my problem. She did a great job for me and even went above and beyond to investigate complicated computer evidence a terrible person lied to use against me. She was able to figure it all out and did some pro-bono work in my defence in a civil case regarding the same incident. Truly an excellent Attorney!

I cannot overstate how effective and amazing Ms. Durflinger is as an attorney. Considering that I had a prior conviction stemming from a near-identical incident some five years earlier, I should never have gotten the deal that Natalie was able to work out for me with the prosecutor in my most recent case. Had it not been for her thorough research into my earlier case (which is something VERY FEW other attorneys would even bother doing) and her dedication to me as her client, I could easily have been given a relatively harsh sentence. Natalie was able to effectively have the case dismissed.

In the past 20-some years Bob has represented me 4 times. Twice he defended me against criminal charges, and twice was my advocate for injury claims. He was at all times most personable a friendly and always explained the realities of my situation and made sure that I understood what was going on. In all cases he obtained favorable results. His fees for criminal defense were less than what other lawyers quoted me and yet he went full out on my behalf as if I was his only client. (He is a sole practitioner and is sometimes very very busy.) Once he was too busy to take a case from me and referred me to another lawyer who handled my case with high competence and who obtained a great result for my claim. In addition to criminal defense and personal injury work, Bob has assisted my brother, (who is a musician), with some entertainment contracts and is well versed in entertainment law. There are truly not enough stars to rate how helpful Bob is!

My attorney was extremely helpful and considerate. She was flexible with her times to be able to contact me after work. And then did the impossible for me and got my case dismissed! Nothing but good things from these people ! :)

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Tacoma, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
