From the beginning, she was readily available to address any concerns or questions I had, providing timely and insightful guidance that proved invaluable throughout the process. Erica has unparalleled professionalism and unwavering dedication to their clients. She listened attentively and empathized with the complexities of my case. Throughout the process, I felt understood and supported, which comforted me during such a difficult time. In addition to her legal prowess, Erica exhibited genuine compassion and care for me. Her unwavering support and encouragement helped me navigate the emotional challenges with strength and resilience. Her expertise in family law is evident in her attention to detail and thorough understanding of the legal intricacies surrounding divorce proceedings. I thank God that Erica came into my life! If you are looking for a person who will fight for you, not give up, and win, then I say look no further! I was going through one of the most painful times in my life. My kids, my retirement and my name was on the line and she did not once give up on me. Erica went above and beyond what you would expect a lawyer to do, which is not only for fight, but fight with her heart and conviction! She believed in me, when I did not believe in myself, and showed the judge that I was not the person who I was portrayed to be. If you were like me, going through hell, I suggest you give her a call. On a personal note: Please don't give up on yourself, there is always another day and one day you too, shall find happiness again. Thank you from the bottom of my heart Erica!

Erica doesn’t seem to know family law or the court system. Due her her negligence, my divorce case is drawn out an additional 4 months. I switched lawyers due to her excessive billing. After going through the court process with another attorney for comparison, I am more confident that Erica is lacking in knowledge and over bills for her time.

Erica has been a saving grace to our family. I was never expecting to need a family law attorney 5 years after a divorce. Our case was pretty unique and sudden. Erica was so informative and thorough. I wasn’t sure what to expect or how the process worked and she walked me through every step of the way. She gave me all of my options, and let me chose the routes I felt were best for my family’s situation. Her best interest was always my children and because of her guidance and help they are happy and safe. I was impressed with how fierce she was when needed and her passion for what she does shows. Thank you Erica for advocating for us in such an unsettling time! I would recommend you to anyone, and everyone who needs services that you offer!

In the past 20-some years Bob has represented me 4 times. Twice he defended me against criminal charges, and twice was my advocate for injury claims. He was at all times most personable a friendly and always explained the realities of my situation and made sure that I understood what was going on. In all cases he obtained favorable results. His fees for criminal defense were less than what other lawyers quoted me and yet he went full out on my behalf as if I was his only client. (He is a sole practitioner and is sometimes very very busy.) Once he was too busy to take a case from me and referred me to another lawyer who handled my case with high competence and who obtained a great result for my claim. In addition to criminal defense and personal injury work, Bob has assisted my brother, (who is a musician), with some entertainment contracts and is well versed in entertainment law. There are truly not enough stars to rate how helpful Bob is!

My attorney was extremely helpful and considerate. She was flexible with her times to be able to contact me after work. And then did the impossible for me and got my case dismissed! Nothing but good things from these people ! :)

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Tacoma, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
