Pros
1
Friendly and easy to communicate with the law firm
“Everyone at Durflinger and Oliver is friendly and easy to talk with.”
2
Convenient process for hiring and signing documents remotely
“To hire them for representation I didn't even have to go to their office. I paid $250 over the phone with my card and signed digital pdf documents on my phone.”
3
Proactive in gathering evidence and information to build the case
“Right away they were requesting the ticket information from Puyallup. A few days later I also emailed Durflinger and Oliver some diagrams of the accident because the position of the four vehicles involved is easier to understand with everything laid out on paper. They were happy to receive my diagrams and pictures of my truck to better understand the circumstances of the accident.”
4
Knowledgeable about local traffic laws and court procedures
“Austin said that the officer who wrote my ticket must not have been available or the city didn't want to bother having him appear to rewrite the ticket. Austin Ansingh is very knowledgeable about the traffic laws and how the cities and jurisdictions in the area handle their tickets and infractions and how to best fight them.”
5
Effective at negotiating with prosecutors and obtaining favorable outcomes
“For fighting the ticket Austin didn't even have to appear before the judge. Him and the Puyallup prosecutor talked about the accident shortly before the hearing and Austin told the prosecutor that one of his arguments against the ticket would be that the officer cited the wrong RCW code. The prosecutor agreed with Austin's recommendations for why the ticket could be dismissed if the judge were to hear my contested hearing. They gave the paperwork for dismissal to the judge and the judge signed off on the dismissal without even hearing the case.”

Senator was very very awesome he stayed in contact with me, always filled me in on what was going on work and took the time to actually listen to me. I was being charged with several criminal charges and he had them all drop down to one ticket non-criminal. He was able to convince the prosecutor to actually look at my case and use common sense and with his hard work, my case resulted into a ticket I'm very pleased with him and his firm so if you need help here's your man and thank you senator for helping me and my family out

Austin is a very knowledgeable and a very reliable attorney. He knows exactly what he is doing. He is approachable and so easy to get along with. I was so scared after receiving a letter to appear in court, but felt at ease after meeting him the first time. My case got dismissed on my arraignment day! I told him he is my lucky charm! And for that, I highly recommend hiring him as your lawyer!!

I got a DUI and needed an Attorney I looked on Google and found Durflinger Oliver. They hooked me up with Austin and he did all the work and all I had todo was show up at court. He's a great worker and very nice! We had other interests in common as well so talking to him was easy. He made things simpler for a first timer and got my ticket dropped down to a Wreckless driving ticket instead. Thank you Austin!

Thanks Austin! When faced with a DUI, I began researching attorneys. I chose Durflinger, Oliver & Associates based on recommendations. Austin provided my consultation. Jim showed up for my arraignment. Both were very kind & seemed empathetic to my situation. At my hearing, Austin went into (greatly appreciated) detail for my options. No BS, just the facts & options. I was fully prepared for the worst. I had been suffering through bouts of depression, fearing loss of job, house, wife. Austin was reassuring, both at my consultation, and in court. I really appreciated his understanding approach. My DUI got knocked down to Reckless, & I can live with that. I would not hesitate to recommend Mr. Ansingh, although I hope I don't have to. For anyone unfortunate enough to find themselves in a terrible mess such as mine, you would do yourself a favor by hiring Austin.

In the past 20-some years Bob has represented me 4 times. Twice he defended me against criminal charges, and twice was my advocate for injury claims. He was at all times most personable a friendly and always explained the realities of my situation and made sure that I understood what was going on. In all cases he obtained favorable results. His fees for criminal defense were less than what other lawyers quoted me and yet he went full out on my behalf as if I was his only client. (He is a sole practitioner and is sometimes very very busy.) Once he was too busy to take a case from me and referred me to another lawyer who handled my case with high competence and who obtained a great result for my claim. In addition to criminal defense and personal injury work, Bob has assisted my brother, (who is a musician), with some entertainment contracts and is well versed in entertainment law. There are truly not enough stars to rate how helpful Bob is!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Tacoma, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
