Pros
1
Knowledgeable and experienced lawyer who provides excellent legal representation
“Mr. Freeby is as polite an attorney as you will find. He knows his stuff inside and out. He got my case thrown out in about 5 minutes. HIGHLY recommended!!”
2
Dedicated and hardworking, going the extra mile to achieve positive outcomes for clients
“Robert Freeby did an excellent job representing me in court. He kept me informed as to the progress of my case and options available. He seemed to have the energy to vigorously represent me against accusations of my ex-wife to be.”
3
Transparent and honest in communication, keeping clients informed throughout the process
“Mr Freeby kept in touch and informed me during the process . He explained the cost and billing procedure and There was no hidden fees.”
4
Compassionate and understanding, providing moral support to clients during stressful legal situations
“The stressful event that parcipitated legal intervention for me was made way less stressful by my experience with Mr. Rob Freeby, Esquire. He listened thoroughly, asked pertinent questions and explained the facts of the law that could work for or against my situation, and defended me well in the legal process, while reassuring me personally through the ordeal, and working to keep fees as low as reasonably possible, all of which was key in helping my legal experience be a good one.”
5
Dedicated to seeking justice and truth, going above and beyond for clients
“He cares about truth and justice... you can't put a price on that.”
Cons
1
Potential issues with reliability and consistency in some cases
“Mr Freeby is not a knowledgeable criminal lawyer., we hired him as a criminal lawyer and he did not do his job and he did miss court dates, he also will say 1 thing but later say something different, i felt like he lied. and so did others.”
2
Possibility of not being proactive or responsive in certain situations
“All I asked of Mr. Freeby was to arrange an interview with this officer and he would either lie some more or come clean. The officer would have had a very difficult time to attempt to continue lying and more than likely would have been in a very serious position. So what happens with this attorney of some twenty years experience? Nothing!! He spends nearly an entire year pretending he couldn't arrange an interview and as if the Department wasn't cooperating, but they were and even told him how to arrange an interview.”

Attorney Charles Freeby was immediately responsive to my needs and I would seek his help without hesitation in the future. It has been a couple of years since I obtained his services, but from what I can remember, I have only complimentary memories of his service.

Mr. Freeby had a plan from the start and really worked for me with a good outcome. He was mindful of my financial situation and kept the expense within what he quoted me. He helped me work through the legal issue I had so that I could move on with my life.

I hired Rob in a defense of a frivolous anti harassment suit brought by a neighbor when I needed legal defense as they had legal representation. The counsel for the plaintiff made wild and unsupported accusations in court to which Rob was able to respond calmly and cogently with a depth of legal knowledge that seemed to convince the court that the case was invalid. Because of the depth of pretrial motions the plaintiff produced our case was heard late in the day - Rob stayed on point and even though it was very late he was able to argue the case to a positive decision. Through all of the exasperation he was able to keep me on task to help him prepare and answer the motions so the case was inevitably tossed out. Rob Freebys background is the reason I picked him. He is tenacious, prepared and has a savviness about him that sees through half truths to get to a winning outcome. His criminal defense experience gives him a perceived toughness on the issues. I would recommend Rob today, tomorrow and of course into the future.

In the past 20-some years Bob has represented me 4 times. Twice he defended me against criminal charges, and twice was my advocate for injury claims. He was at all times most personable a friendly and always explained the realities of my situation and made sure that I understood what was going on. In all cases he obtained favorable results. His fees for criminal defense were less than what other lawyers quoted me and yet he went full out on my behalf as if I was his only client. (He is a sole practitioner and is sometimes very very busy.) Once he was too busy to take a case from me and referred me to another lawyer who handled my case with high competence and who obtained a great result for my claim. In addition to criminal defense and personal injury work, Bob has assisted my brother, (who is a musician), with some entertainment contracts and is well versed in entertainment law. There are truly not enough stars to rate how helpful Bob is!

My attorney was extremely helpful and considerate. She was flexible with her times to be able to contact me after work. And then did the impossible for me and got my case dismissed! Nothing but good things from these people ! :)

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Tacoma, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
